Chapter 9: Fallen Intoxication

I'm annoyed by the fact that I'm used to seeing you. I want my privacy back.

"It's not really their fault. The feline forced them to come. Haven't you ever thought about their life?"

"No, Flarem, because I couldn't care less."

"You can be an ass."

"You've got that right."

You know the drill. I say that I'm starting, you accept and listen.

Nequam had packed our belongings. Flarem and I grabbed the little we had, and we began our travels.

"We're heading to Pigeonsfeather, right?"

"Yes," Flarem reassured, a little annoyed that I had to ask.

"I'm going to put the illusion on us now."

"What do you need to cover on me?"

"You're easy. I just cover your eyes with a slightly darker blue. Your eyes look too bright for humans. You look the same in every other way, though."

"Did your form change very much? Other than the obvious wings," Flarem asked, looking as if he was focusing on my answer with everything he had. He likes knowing as much as he can, which is weird every once in a while.

"Yeah. My hair, eyes, and body changed. I'm slightly more muscular than my human form was."

"You have more muscle? That's odd. My body didn't change."

"Maybe it's a side effect of that injection," I suggested, unsure.

"Maybe."

We walked for a half an hour, before noticing a sign to the town.

"Let's take a break here."

"Why?"

"I need you to use your magic. Meralf is the fighter, not you. Maybe in the future, you can help but you're in no shape now."

"I can summon animals. I can help," Flarem eagerly insisted. I wished I could accept, but I really couldn't.

"What if your magic depletes? You have been changing mindsets faster, but a split second is all that's needed to kill. I don't want you dead."

"But... I want to help. I hate giving up my body."

"I need you to do this. I won't force you, but I hope you will let Meralf use your body."

"I'll do it. I don't want to, but it will help accomplish our goal," Flarem murmured, sounding defeated.

"Thanks."

Red tears flowed down his cheeks. The blood grew and formed two shapes. One shape turned into Nequam. The other, an albino tiger.

"Woah. You summoned two this time."

"It won't last. I've almost drained already. I did this so I could change quickly."

"I like the tiger. It's pretty cool," I complimented, as it was badass. Besides, he seemed to need encouragement.

"Yeah. I thought about what you said. I should stop liking cute things. It will hold me back. Besides, I do want to get a girl eventually, not be like a girl."

"Well, you can appreciate when something is cute. You shouldn't willingly summon something just for that fact, however."

"Yeah. I gu..essss."

Flarem fell into my arms, and I shook him. The blood went into his eyes, then they opened right away. The shining yellow gazed at my face.

"Finally. You actually caught me."

"I could've let you fall. Anyway, we're almost at Pigeonsfeather."

"I'm the Flarem with memories. You don't need to tell me that," Meralf reminded, making me slightly feel like an idiot.

"Whatever. Anyway, should we destroy the town right away? I'm tired of walking, and I'm sure you are, too."

"Yeah, I'm tired. Also, can you hide my creatures behind me? You left them visible."

I worked my magic, disguising his creatures as people. I didn't recall seeing him summon them, but I wasn't paying much attention.

"All done. They look like normal people now."

"Let's hit up the tavern. There's something I want to do that I haven't in a long time," Meralf cheered, grinning. A smirk spread across my face.

"I think I know what you're getting at. Hahe."

We talked while we walked onto the stone pathways of Pigeonsfeather. The people were dreary and bleak. The town didn't have much for color.

Yells could be heard from the outside of the tavern. When we walked in, two adventurers were in the center. One was tall and thin. He had a strawberry blond braid falling down to his thighs. A huge sword was strapped to his back. He had a white sleeveless shirt, that showed his muscles, and light yellow pants. Women were surrounding him.

Beside him, a child. He appeared around ten. He wore a dark purple cloak that covered most of his body. Some of his black hair stuck out. He was silent and turned down any woman that tried to question him.

"I don't like this," I cautioned.

"Yeah. How will we pick up any woman with them hogging the light?"

"Meralf, I meant the fact they're here. They seem strong. We'll need to face them."

"I don't care about that right now. Who knows the next time I'll be in control?" Meralf stated, blowing off my worry. I sighed, okay with losing my nerve.

"You want to kick them out of the spotlight?"

"Yes."

"Get your creatures to surround us. Make us seem important. They look like people, so it shouldn't be noticed."

His creatures surrounded us. The people around the adventurers came to check us out. We sat in silence, drinking beer.

"These people seem interested in us. Want to tell a story?"

"Sure. I've killed a dragon," I bragged, sticking out my chest with a smile.

"Heh. I can summon a young dragon if I want. That should improve, though. I can summon a moderately powerful dragon, but it would drain all of my magic. It would exist for less than a second, then poof."

"I'm going to tell the story. I'm sure we can get women with it."

I cleared my throat, and the people around us silenced. They looked at us with curiosity.

"Anyone want to hear a story?! I've got a great one!"

I spent a good deal of time telling the tale. I edited out some of my magic used and improvised. The people were amazed. The adventurers looked annoyed and made their leave. Some of the women wanted to get extra close.

"Meralf, thinking what I'm thinking?"

"Yes. I've sent one of my demons to rent a room. Let's get some of these women to go with us. They seem more than interested."

"What about my illusion? It will disperse while I sleep," I questioned, worried about having to erase more memories.

"I'll summon another creature that uses illusion. They can cover for us. I can't summon a fallen angel, though. Not only are they rare, but your species is stronger than you think. That's one of the reasons for your increased strength. It makes sense for you to have been sent to the living world. You should be able to actually cause chaos."

"I didn't know they're that rare."

"Yeah, they are. So, should we pick up some of these chicks?" Meralf asked, changing the fallen angel subject.

"Definitely."

Some of the women flirted heavily with us. Around six followed us back to the room Meralf rented.

"I'll take three to my side," Meralf stated, doing as he said.

"I'll take the other three."

Meralf sat on the bed, while I was on the floor. I awoke in a pile of sleeping bodies. I crawled out from beneath the sweaty women and got dressed. Meralf was still sleeping soundly. I noticed one of the women that was with Meralf was awake. She got up as she saw me moving.

"You woke up fast."

"I didn't sleep," She replied. Her voice was quiet and sounded like the breeze.

"Why didn't you sleep?"

"Master didn't want me too. He wanted me to keep your illusions up. I am the only demon left."

"I can take over now," I told, feeling some pity toward the she-demon.

"Good. Master can't hold on anymore. He runs out of magic at night. He doesn't feel as angry while he dreams."

"You can't go. Flarem will come back if you do."

"Sorry. I can't control it. Master will feel sick if I continue."

She began to turn into liquid, and the blood went back into Meralf. I went over and held his eye open. I stopped the illusion on his eye and saw the yellow draining out. I reapplied the illusion and washed my face in the bathroom.

While I wiped my face with a cloth, I heard Flarem yelling from the other room. I ran in to see him erratically getting out of the bed. The women were waking up from his noise.

"Nocri! What happened?! What is going on?! Where are my freaking clothes?!"

"Meralf went overboard. You know how it is," I said, looking toward the wall.

"First you guys pierced my ears, then you got smashed, and now he's used my body for sexy time?!"

The women began to look nervous. One got up and began to speak. She was nude, drool on her face. She was mostly flat, not really any curves about her.

"Why are you referring to him as Flarem? I thought he was Meralf."

"He's got split personalities. He's Flarem now."

"Why wouldn't you mention this?!" She yelled, her face red with anger.

"We didn't think he would switch. He clearly has, though. I didn't see you asking anything about our lives. You were too busy on top of Meralf."

The woman looked angered and left. The rest felt really awkward so they soon followed suit. One winked at me, suggesting she'd do it again with a smile. She was curvy, so I thought that I wouldn't mind going another round.

"Have you even done anything?!" Flarem shouted, pissed. I scratched my head, giving a nonchalant smirk.

"We were tired yesterday. We wanted a good time. You can't blame us for that."

"I can totally blame you! This is why I didn't want to switch! You guys make terrible choices!"

"You've got to loosen up. You didn't feel anything when you woke up with two pretty ladies on you?" I brought up, trying to divert his anger to another feeling. Flarem blushed.

"Well... I didn't even know who they were! Meralf shouldn't have sex without my consent!"

"What about Meralf? Should he not be able to live how he chooses?"

"Not when using my body!"

"But it's also his."

"It feels like a breach of our understanding," Flarem muttered, looking miserable.

"You know what? We can hold off with taking over this place. We need to get you laid, big time."

"What? Why do we need to do that?"

"I'm also getting you a beer."

"I don't want that," Flarem murmured, still upset.

"You need to appreciate the good things. You aren't laid back enough. You don't relax."

"I can relax."

"What do you do to relax?" I asked, not believing anything he said.

"I read."

"You definitely need a woman."

"But..."

"No buts. We're going to the tavern, and you're losing your childhood. I'm counting you as a virgin since you can't remember having it. You're mentally a virgin," I spouted, trying to convince him.

"Do I get a voice in this?"

"Nope. It's been decided. You're supposed to be a demon. Act like it. You're also too innocent for your age."

"I don't even know how to have it..."

"It comes naturally. Besides, your body has already done it, so you should be fine."

"I'm going to wash up. I want to look at least half-decent. I really don't want to do this," Flarem whimpered, a defeated look on his face.

"You need to get some pants too. I'm surprised you haven't got any yet."

"I don't know where they are."

"Your ragged shirt is below the bed. I think I saw your pants in the shower."

"Why are my pants in the shower...?"

"I dunno," I said, shrugging.

"I'll be in the shower."

"I'll be out here."

I could hear the shower spray water droplets over Flarem. I sat on the bed, thinking about him. I thought how he needed to grow up, and he needed something to perk him up. He hadn't seemed especially happy since I met him...

He came out of the bathroom and shook his wet hair on the wooden floor beneath. He wore his pants, but his shirt was off. A towel was around his neck.

"You feel good now?"

"Yeah," Flarem told, stretching his shoulders and arms.

"Are you up for heading to the tavern?"

"If you really think I should... I don't even know your reasoning."

"You won't regret this. We can't even get hangovers. The demon blood prevents it," I mentioned, hoping it'd convince him.

"Fine."

We walked over to the tavern, and we sat near the back. It was around four at the time, as we had slept in and stayed in the room for a while. The place wasn't as crowded as the day before. A busty waitress came to see if we needed anything.

"Just wat-"

"Two beers. And keep them coming."

"Don't cut me off," Flarem snapped, agitated.

"You need to loosen up. You're too tense. There isn't a reason for you to be so... rigid."

"Why wouldn't I be tense? We are on a mission to take over the kingdom."

"No, we aren't. We're just supposed to cause chaos. I just thought taking over would be fun."

"The cat knows of our plan. He probably wants us to continue," Flarem stated, slightly loud. I motioned him to quiet down, but it made him angrier.

"Don't care about other people. Focus on yourself. Just do whatever you please. That's the best way of living."

"Why did I allow you to pressure me into coming then?"

"You can leave if you want, but I've got a beer coming for you," I spoke, looking to find the waitress. Flarem sat in thought for a few seconds, looking up confidently.

"No, I choose to stay. Maybe I do need to loosen up... It's just. There's a lot happening in this world."

"Don't think about it. If you can live carefree, then live carefree."

"Maybe..."

The waitress came with our beers and set them on the table.

"Call me if you'd like anything else."

"Sure, babe," I cooed, smiling. The waitress blushed and walked away to wait on other people. I started drinking, gasping for air when I stopped. "Are you going to drink?"

"Yeah. I mean, I don't hate the flavor, just the effects of it."

"We sober up quick. Better down a few of these quickly."

"I guess acting like this rarely isn't bad," Flarem muttered, trying to convince himself. He picked up his beer and began to down it. I followed and finished mine.

"You're really getting into this. I'm surprised you drank so much in such a little time."

"Well, if I'm going to do this, I might as well go all in," Flarem affirmed, finishing up with his beer.

"That's what I'm talking about. Hey, waitress! Two more!"

Flarem and I drank way more beer, then felt very intoxicated. It wasn't the best idea on my part, but whatever. It's the only way I know to relax.

"Hey, Nocri."

"Yeah?"

"What am I doing?"

"Drinking," I explained, noticing Flarem swaying. His face was bright pink, and he continued chugging down alcohol.

"It feels, good. I actually feel good."

"Don't go overboard. Meralf would drink way more than this and pay for it."

"Don't tell me what to do. Hey, waitress! One more!"

"You shouldn't do that," I warned, noticing that I shouldn't have let him get so bad. I wanted to get smashed, too, though, so I didn't realize.

"Why? I feel relaxed. I'm happy."

"Yeah, but there is a difference from enough to get relaxed, and the amount you've had..."

"This will be my last."

"Fine."

That wasn't his last. He drank at least three more before I convinced him to leave.

"Flarem, we're going."

"O..kay."

We were almost out the door when one of the women from yesterday walked up to be. She was the curvy one who'd winked. She smiled, getting extremely close to my body.

"Want to do that again, Nocri?" She purred, luring me into her offer. Flarem looked over, stumbling as he moved.

"Yeah, Nocri. Are you going to have sex again tonight? You know what? I want someone too. If you're having fun, so am I."

"Wait, Flarem. I thought you were against it."

"You wanted me to loosen up. I'm loose," Flarem stuttered out, too drunk to have reason. I started to regret bringing him, but I went along with his choices.

"Fine. I might as well have sex with this woman again if you're going to have it with someone," I turned to the woman, holding her close. I kissed her cheek, causing her to blush. While I was acting on urge, Flarem turned to the whole tavern, clearing his throat. I immediately felt embarrassed and worried.

"ANYONE WHO WANTS TO MESS AROUND WITH ME OR THIS GUY IS WELCOME TO FOLLOW!" Flarem shouted, almost tripping as he swayed.

Around seven of the women followed us, excluding the one reserved for me. We made it to the room we rented, people glaring at us as we went.

"Split up based on who you want," I said as Flarem was in no shape to speak.

Six went over to Flarem, while I was left with two. I guess they were into the young type. I was envious.

"Heh. Take that, Nocri. I'm more than you.... popularer."

"Flarem, you're really drunk right now. You can't even say a full sentence without stalling, and I'm not sure if that was even a sentence."

"I don't care."

I accepted Flarem's drunk choices and went to my own business. The night was similar to the last.

I'm going to go get some water. My throat is dry. You stay here. I'll be right back.

"I'll go get some, too"

"Okay, Flarem."
