Chapter 1: Fallen Angel

I guess this will be my first time doing this... I'll start the story off with my death. Leave as soon as my final words are uttered, you freaking demon.

I felt a heavy weight on my chest. Not a feeling, this was a literal weight. A dragon stood right upon my body, and I couldn't even watch. Blood had managed to seep into my eyes. My orbs burned as they tried to see the damned beast. My body turned cold, and I lost feeling in my legs and arms. I coughed blood onto my own face as I lay in the dark cave of the reptile. The nothingness from my arms made its way up until I was encompassed by the feeling.

I gave in to the feeling and waited for my forsaken future. But being forsaken isn't always bad. It was the equivalent of a blessing to one who's lived a life praying to one of the gods. But at this point, my life sucked.

As I awoke, the earsplitting sound of screaming greeted me. I wished to jab my fingers into my ears until the dreaded sound stopped. I opened my eyes, surprised to see. My face was on the ground, the dust particles within the whites of my eyes. I had drooled on the leaves, but if anyone asks, I will deny, of course. Anyway, I brushed the dirt from my eyes, then proceeded to get up. My legs were shaky, but I rose without much struggle. I stretched my arms out, and I heard them crackle. I'm still not sure if my bones were supposed to make that sound, but that is beside the point. I tried to crack my neck but to no avail.

I shook off the dirt from my pants to realize they weren't mine. I was in a bland, black pair of pants and a black tee. I wasn't wearing any of my usual jewelry. I wear silver earrings on my ears along with a silver ring that has a compartment for poison, all of which I needed to steal again... I didn't really care about my clothes, so my next task was to find that cause of that wretched screaming.

I can hear it as clearly now, as I had then. It was blood-curdling, spine-chilling, something that could make you kill just to have it end. Well, I did just that.

I followed the sound of hell. Each step I wanted to kill myself, but my desire to take revenge on my ears was greater. I looked around, but there wasn't much to see as I ventured. The world that had been around me was just empty trees, their leaves long ago having fallen to the ground. I crunched on the leaves, making the wait to get there more agonizing. Occasionally, I would see a bush, but the fruit was rotting off it. The sky was dark, but a bright moon lit up the world. It was as though it was daytime.

The screams neared, and I found a small clearing within the warped trees. This is where the shouts intensified. This is where my suffering was caused. This is where I was discovered by that ass of a cat.

People sat on the leaves, as the unending screams came from their pale lips. The people were crouching, lying down, and twisted in all types of bizarre shapes. I found it somewhat amusing to see them like that. Some even foamed at the mouth! All looked completely drained of everything. Feeling and sanity were lost. I mean, I'm not completely sane, but they took the cake. I needed the screaming to end, and I'd come up with the solution earlier. They drove me to kill, and kill I did.

I went over to one of the trees, and I ripped off its branch. It was sharp already, and the people didn't seem like they could, or would, go anywhere.

I strolled over to them and chose the oldest of the group. He had gray hair, although it was all on his chin. His skin was tight around his frail bones. He wore the same clothes as me, and everyone else, I may add. He didn't budge as I neared, and not a person looked at me. This angered me. I took the stick and poked it through his heart. He made a wheezing sound as his last breath came to an end. The silencing began.

I threw the stick, realizing it wasn't needed. I went person after person, stopping on their necks. It sounded like crunching noodles. It was an easy task, and it paid off. The dreaded screaming... It finally ended. I could think clearly again, so I decided to explore. I needed answers as to how I got there and why I wasn't like those people.

After taking a few steps away from the corpses, I blacked out. I rose to find myself in the same spot. A red path now in my way. Having nothing better to do, I followed the trail. It took me to a circle of mushrooms, which I carelessly entered. Once again, I blacked out.

I awoke to a cold stone floor on my face. I pulled myself from the floor to see a creature in front of me. It was a chimera and an ugly one at that. The thing had the body of a lizard, wings of a dragonfly, and head of a flamingo. It stared at me before opening its mouth.

"Welcome. My master would like to see you. Follow me. Also, keep it down in here."

I nodded and paced behind him. This place appeared to be a castle. It was entirely made of stone. Candles lit the halls, and weavings hung on the walls. We ended our stroll with a large wooden door. Within, that cocky pest resided.

The chimera motioned me in, so I cracked the door open and went. A chandelier hung from the ceiling, dimly lighting the large room. A black rug led up to a white throne. You would think white is holy, but here it was anything but. Shattered bones were fit piece by piece to make an intricately designed chair, at which a black cat sat. He looked down on me with white eyes. No pupil, just white. I hated the look he gave me, but then again, has a cat ever given a face you didn't want to punch?

There was silence in the room for a solid minute while we observed each other. The silence got to me, and I had to speak.

"Why am I here?"

"You died, remember?" the cat asked. The cat's deep voice shocked me at first. I grew used to it.

"How could I forget? But how did I get here?"

"This is the underworld. Your body is still in the living world, rotting as we speak."

"So, is this just my soul?" I puzzled, rubbing my hair.

"You can call it that."

"What was wrong with those people?"

"They were like you. They come here, search for the screaming, and then drown in the madness of the others. You took a different route. That is why I called for you here. I could use you," the cat stated, appearing bored with my questioning.

"I won't accept being used unless it brings me gain. So, what are you thinking, cat?"

"I'm a god. Don't refer to me so casually," The cat boomed, looking agitated.

"I've never cared for the gods, but fine. Get on with what you want."

"Fine. I'll have you sleep here for the night. After that, I'll return you to the living world. I would like you to cause some destruction. It would be entertaining for both sides. I'll aid you with power, but you determine how strong you'll be. You'll understand in the morning. Follow my servant to your room."

"Sounds good to me," I cockily decided.

I left the cat and followed the flamingo to my room. It was small but well maintained. I didn't see dust anywhere. It was a basic room with a bed, nightstand, etc. The flamingo handed me a needle and motioned for me to stick it in my arm. I nodded and closed the door to my room.

I was on the bed. I had been lying on the ground numerous times before here. It was squishy, and the blankets were extremely soft. I almost fell asleep, but I remembered the needle.

I picked it up. A sickly green-colored paste filling the tube. I shrugged and drove the metal into my arm. I cringed at the feeling of the paste as it went into my veins, and I threw the needle against the wall. Then, I proceeded to sleep.

When I woke up, I felt a weight on my back. I simply ignored it. When I looked at the bed, a black feather sat on the mattress. I assumed that it had fallen out of one of the pillows. I felt like I could see in the dark castle better than before, but I assumed I was crazy.

I walked out of the room to go back to the cat. I wanted to know more about the terms of his plan. The chimera I passed stared at me in admiration, for a reason I hadn't known at the time. There were a lot of weird combinations for the chimera. Most seemed pretty harmless.

I reached the door and barged in. The cat looked pleased as he saw me.

"How do you feel?"

"Rested, I guess. My back feels heavy."

"You don't notice?" the cat mentioned with a surprised look.

"Notice what?"

The cat flicked his paw up, and a mirror materialized in front of me. I was shocked when I saw myself. My normally dirty blond hair was black. My green eyes were brighter and looked like a different shade altogether. One that was not possible for a human. My skin was paler, though I was always pale-skinned. My shirt was ripped, so I took it off. Coming out the back was a set of beautiful, black wings. I noticed I was a bit thinner than normal. I hadn't eaten since I died. I have a muscular body, by the way. I had felt invigorated since I awoke. The cat flicked his paw a second time, at which the mirror vanished.

"Now that you know what you are, let's talk about business. I'm going to send you to the living world. You can do whatever you want, just don't go to another god. Create some chaos. You specialize in illusion and manipulation magic, but you also have other skills. You'll learn them as you go. They should come naturally."

"Good. Let's do this," I eagerly chimed.

"I need you to take my assistant with you. They will stay away from you most of the time. They will ask you what you've done every so often and report back to me."

"Yeah, whatever. Just make sure they don't interfere with me."

The cat flicked his paw once more, and I awoke in the living world. I went to a nearby clothing store and took these clothes. I'm wearing a pair of ripped jeans and a long-sleeve black shirt. The shirt has the whole back exposed with a strip of cloth connecting it around my neck. I also took some jewelry to replace what I lost.

Now, will you leave me alone and go for the time being? I'm sick of having to explain everything to you already, assistant. Why'd that cat make me take you along?
