chapter 67

THE RUN WAS SUCCESSFUL.

Rick, Michonne, and Carl had come back with enough guns and ammo to get them through the war with the Governor.

They even got a crib for Judith, and a new crossbow for Daryl. Some toys and colouring books for Liam. Carl even gave Vivian a little gold necklace with a sun pendant on it.

And now, Rick, Hershel, and Daryl were on their way to meet the Governor. To come to a truce, as Andrea put it.

But Vivian knew it wasn't going to happen.

Marcie couldn't believe that Andrea was able to convince the Governor to meet with Rick. It also took a lot of convincing for her father to allow her to go.

Even though she had seen her group only days ago, she needed to see them again.

Martinez came to a stop in front of the green Hyundai and Daryl's bike. Before he could put the car in park, Marcie jumped out of the SUV and ran towards the archer in the leather vest,

Daryl didn't lower his crossbow, "What the hell? Why's your boy already in there?" He asked Andrea,

"He's here?"

"Yup." Andrea gave Martinez a look before heading towards a sliding door that led into a barn.

Daryl glanced over at Marcie, "You okay?"

She nodded before greeting Hershel, "It's good to see you, old man."

Hershel looked around at all of them as they stood awkwardly in silence, "Maybe I should go inside."

"The Governor thought it best if he and Rick spoke privately." Milton stated, pausing from writing in his little notebook,

"Who the hell are you?" Daryl asked the man,

"Milton Mamet."

"Great. " Daryl scoffed, "He brought his butler."

Marcie stifled her laugh, leaning up against Hershel's car. Even Martinez let out a small laugh,

"I'm his advisor." Milton corrected him,

"What kind of advice?" The archer questioned,

"Planning. Biters." He paused, "Uh, you know, I'm sorry. I don't feel like I need to explain myself to the henchmen."

"You better watch your mouth, sunshine." Daryl spat at him,

"Look, if you and I are gonna be out here pointing guns at each other all day, do me a favor, shut your mouth." Martinez snapped at him,

Daryl began to approach him and Marcie reached for his arm, "Daryl, don't."

"We don't need this." Hershel spoke up, "If all goes south in there, we'll be at each other's throats soon enough."

"You'll get your chance, okay?" Marcie whispered to him, "Just... not here. Not now."

Back at the prison, everyone was sorting through the weapons and ammo. Carol was out on watch, while Liam played with his chalk in the room and Judith slept in Carl's cell,

Vivian reached over and grabbed a few boxes of bullets, "Carl, come here." The younger Grimes walked over to her and she handed him the boxes, "You stash these at the loading dock. All right? Beth, put more up on the catwalk." Vivian ordered, "If anyone gets pinned down, we need to make sure that they have plenty of ammo."

Glenn grabbed a pair of gloves and a blowtorch, "I'll go work on the cage outside." He informed her and Vivian nodded,

Since Hershel, Daryl, and Rick were gone, he put her in charge. And that also meant if anything were to happen to the three of them, she was the one to make decisions after that, which scared her shitless.

"What we should be doing is loading some of this firepower in a truck and paying a visit to the Governor." Merle commented, "We know where he is right now."

"Are you suggesting that we just go in and kill him?" Glenn asked him,

"Yeah, I am."

"We told Rick and Daryl that we'd stay put." Vivian stated,

"I've changed my mind, sweetheart." Merle stared at her as she rolled her eyes at the petname, "Being on the sideline with my brother out there ain't sitting right with me."

"The three of them are right in the middle of it. No idea we're coming. They could get taken hostage or killed." Vivian told him, "A thousand things could go wrong. I won't be responsible for that."

"And they will."

"My dad can take care of himself." Carl told the older Dixon,

"Sorry, son, but your dad's head could be on a pike real soon." Merle stated,

"Hey!" Vivian stomped over to him and pushed her finger into his chest, "Do not say that to him."

Merle glared down at her and before he could say something, Glenn pulled her away, "Look, it's not the right move. Not now. Can't take the risk of putting them in the crossfire."

"That includes your brother." Vivian spat towards Merle, "That's my decision. It's final."

Andrea stepped out of the building and everyone's eyes turned to her. She didn't say anything, just sighed and moved to sit down on the bench a few feet away. Marcie went and sat next to her,

"No matter the outcome, just know that you tried." The brunette looked over at her, "It's the thought that counts."

Andrea scoffed, "I'll be sure to tell that to the survivors after the bloodbath."

Time went by slowly. Honestly, there was no telling whether they two leaders strangled each other, or they were still talking.

Daryl began to pace nervously, and Marcie went to go stand by him,

"There's no reason not to use this time we have together to explore the issues ourselves." Milton spoke up,

"Boss said to sit tight and shut up." Martinez replied,

"Don't you mean the Governor?" Daryl scoffed towards the man,

"It's a good thing they're sitting down, especially after what happened." Milton reasoned, "They're gonna work it out. Nobody wants another battle."

"I wouldn't exactly call it a battle." Daryl sassed,

"I would call it a battle and I did. I recorded it." Milton stated, holding up his notebook,

"For what?"

"Somebody's got to keep a record of what we've gone through. It'll be a part of our history." He explained,

Hershel nodded, "That makes sense."

Milton walked towards the old man, "I've got dozens of interviews-"

He got interrupted by the sound of biters approaching. Marcie reached for her hunting knife and followed after Daryl, who ran towards the corpses, with Martinez following behind with a metal bat,

After searching the metal structures, Daryl found three walkers, which began to approach them after spotting the live flesh,

"After you." Daryl said to Martinez,

He shook his head, "No way. You first."

Marcie rolled her eyes, "Wanna get your dicks out while you're at it?" Her and Andrea pushed the boys to the side and quickly took out the biters, stabbing them in the head,

More walkers began to approach, "Pussy." Martinez scoffed before bursting forward and smashing the biter's skull with one hit,

Marcie leaned against the silo, watching as the two men continued to show off, taking out the biters. Martinez went to take out the last one, and Daryl used his hunting knife, throwing it from yards away and piercing the walker's skull.

Martinez turned to acknowledge the hunter, but his back was already to him as he approached Marcie,

"You guys done with your piss-"

Daryl interrupted her, grabbing her jaw and tilting her face up enough for him to aggressively kiss her.

She moaned into his mouth slightly, not used to this kind of side of Daryl. Before they found each other again, he never kissed her in front of others, but ever since they were back in each other's lives, he kissed her any chance he got.

He pulled away after a moment and moved to grab his bolts, "Was that necessary?" Marcie asked breathlessly, following after him,

"Yep."

Marcie rolled her eyes for what felt like the tenth time before walking back towards the others.

Vivian was back in the cellblock, changing Liam and Judith's diapers when she heard a commotion in the other room. She set the newborn back down into her new crib before rushing to find the others confronting Merle, who was holding a gun and a bag full of bullets,

"If Michonne can do it, why can't you?!" Maggie yelled,

"'Cause it's my brother out there, that's why." Merle responded, "What's the matter with y'all?" He headed towards the door, where Glenn was standing in the way,

The two stood face to face, "I'm not gonna let you put them in danger."

"Nut up already, boy." Merle growled at him, "This guy cops a feel of your woman and you pussy out like this? Get out of my way."

Vivian knew Merle was trying to wind Glenn up. Trying to find the button that will set him off, sending the Korean on a warpath towards the Governor.

"No."

Merle went to push Glenn out of the way, but he was quick to pound back, wrapping his arms around the older Dixon and sending the both of them down the steps.

Merle ended on top, wrapping his hands around Glenn's neck. Vivian jumped on the Dixon's back, trying to pull him off while Michonne and Maggie went for his arms.

A shot went off and they all turned to see Beth, a gun in her hand pointed towards the ceiling. Merle pushed the women off, "Let me go!"

Cries came from the cellblock and Vivian cursed before going to comfort the children who were in her cell.

"Asshole."
