chapter 130
THE NEXT MORNING, MARCIE WAS PATROLLING THE PERIMETER WHEN RICK ASKED HER TO JOIN IN ON A MEETING.
That's how she ended up in Rick's house, sitting at his dining room table with Carol, Rick, Michonne, and Morgan,
"What's going on?" Morgan asked, and Marcie wanted to know, too.
"When I was coming back, I tried to cut off the herd with the RV." Rick informed him, informed the rest of them, "Lead the walkers away. But five of those people with the Ws in their foreheads, they stopped me. They tried to kill me, shot up the RV. Now, Carol says she saw you. That you wouldn't kill those people. Did you let any of them go?"
Marcie's eyes widened slightly at Rick's question. Why would Morgan let those people go? They were a danger to everyone they came across, it was clear. They were the ones who set up the trap at the cannery, and have maimed and killed many people in the area.
The heads in the truck? Them. The woman tied to the tree and gutted? Also them.
"Yes, I did." Morgan answered, "I didn't want to kill five people I didn't have to kill."
"They burned people alive." Carol snapped at him,
Morgan nodded, "Yeah. Why didn't you kill me, Rick, back in King County? Pulled a knife on you. I stabbed you. So why didn't you kill me?" Marcie turned to look at Rick, unaware of this situation happening. Was it when she was in Woodbury? When she was separated from the group? "Was it 'cause I saved you after the hospital?"
"'Cause I knew who you were." Rick answered,
"Back there I would have killed you as soon as look at you. And I tried. But you, you let me live and then I was there to help Aaron, Marcie and Daryl. See, if I... if I wasn't there... if they died... maybe those Wolves wouldn't have been able to come back here. I don't know what's right anymore."
Noah's words resonated in Marcie's head. Everything's happening the way it's supposed to happen.
If those Wolves didn't break in, then the people of Alexandria would continue living in ignorance. Thanks to those monsters, they knew they needed to fight to survive.
"'Cause I did want to kill those men. I seen what they did, what they keep doing." Morgan sighed, "I knew I could end it. But I also know that people can change. 'Cause everyone sitting here has. All life is precious. And that idea- that idea changed me. It brought me back and it keeps me living."
"I just don't think it can be that easy." Michonne spoke up,
"It's not easy."
"I wasn't saying-"
"I-I know." Morgan interrupted her, "And I've thought about letting that idea go. But I don't want to."
"You may have to." Michonne insisted, "Things aren't as simple as four words. I don't think they ever were."
"Do you think I don't belong here?" Morgan asked,
"Making it now, do you really think you can do that without getting blood on your hands?" Rick questioned him,
He thought about it for a moment before shaking his head, "I don't know."
Marcie didn't like killing people, but she wouldn't be where she is without doing it. Life may be precious, which means it shouldn't be wasted on those who think it's okay to torture and maim people.
The Wolves don't deserve to live.
It's as easy as that.
After Morgan and Carol left, the remaining trio began going over a plan to figure out how to get rid of the walkers outside the walls. Daryl, Sasha, and Abraham still weren't back, and Marcie began to worry even more.
Something happened. There's no doubt about that. They should've been back already.
"If we can somehow get outside the walls, get back to our cars at the quarry, we could use them to draw them away." Rick began,
Michonne nodded, "We'll set up more watch points. Coordinate the shooting of guns and flares so we could pull them out in even directions."
"We'd need to get all our people on it." Marcie sighed, leaning against the side of the house and crossing her arms,
Rick nodded, "Carl, Tara, Rosita, Carol, Finn."
"What about everybody else?" Marcie asked,
"Well, let's just keep this to our own for now." He responded,
"Really?"
"Look," Rick stood up straight to address the both of them, "if we had the time to bring the people along, sure. But we haven't had a chance to catch our breath."
Michonne raised an eyebrow, "Really? We're in here together. We're catching our breath right now. Anything else is just excuses."
Marcie heard something approaching and turned to see Deanna, a smile on her face an a poster rolled up in her hands, "What's that?" Rick asked her,
"Plans for the expansion."
"We got a few other things on our plate right now." He told her,
"I know." She handed the plans to Michonne, "These are for what Alexandria can be after this. Because one way or another, there's gonna be an after this."
Without another word, Deanna left. Marcie shared a look with the two before leaving the house. She went towards the infirmary, passing Rosita and her little training class. Debbie had joined them after her gun training with Rick. Despite Finn not wanting her learn to fight, he knew it was important.
They couldn't hide behind the walls anymore. No where was safe.
Vivian was still unconscious. Denise said her body was still recovering from the blood loss and trauma, but she should wake up soon.
But what if she didn't? How would they recover from her loss?
And if Daryl, Sasha, Abraham, and Glenn didn't come back?
This group needed them.
Marcie left after a while, after the incident with Spencer attempting to jump the wall. Once Debbie was back, she sat with Vivian and Liam, and she knew the two kids would be okay together.
She was walking down the street when she noticed everyone staring up at something in the sky. Marcie paused, using her hand to block out the sun as she followed their gaze.
Flying up in the air was a bundle of green balloons. The ones that were at their third pitstop, that no one made it to.
But someone did.
And Marcie thinks that someone is Glenn.
The brunette turned to the watch tower, where Maggie was already staring. The farm girl quickly climbed down and ran over to Marcie, "Where's Rick?"
Marcie grabbed her hand and the two sprinted down the street. If there was a chance Glenn was okay, even after over 24 hours, there was a chance the others were out there, too.
They made it to Rick and Deanna, who were also staring at the balloons, "It's Glenn." Maggie panted, "That's Glenn."
Rick gave her a nod, a small smile on his face.
The sound of wood breaking caught their attention. They all turned to the bell tower, which was tilting side to side.
"Oh, shit."
Marcie pulled Maggie away, watching as the wall collapsed with the bell tower. They didn't have time to catch their breath anymore.
Now it was time to fight once again.
