chapter 25
Sienna Galeon
I wished I had a phone. For many reasons, first, I miss reading my books on it. Second, my crunchyroll app to watch my favorite episodes of an anime series. Lastly, to search for a certain someone.
I'm here in Starbucks sitting down and waiting for Donovon to bring me my coffee. He is in a long line behind several people. Nicolai is sitting at the end of the table while Dimitri is sitting across from me. They've been edgeing around me for some reason. But I told them I just wanted moments of recollection.
I needed a chance to get access to the internet without being caught.
I couldn't tell them. Nor could I ask for their phones or any device they have. They would some how find out, and obviously need reasons to why I need their phones.
Because I honestly don't know what I'm going to be looking for but I have a feeling it's not in my favor. So I keep it to myself and plus I trust that Dr. Riverton can keep a patients word in confidentiality. Or I hope so, I don't know anything about how Mafia owned therapists work with delicate information when it comes to a patient...
I needed an opportunity.
And a stealthy plan.
My eyes watch the whole room and that's when a light bulb in my brain lights up. When I see a petite girl--possible college student from around here. She has a laptop in front of her and a phone beside it. She looks sweet with her glasses off set a little, sweater a little oversized. Curly dark hair you could envy over.
She gets up folding her laptop and stands up. My eyes trail her as she makes her way to the women's restroom. Smart thinking, taking her stuff with her--you could never trust the public and with this economy these days for thieves to steal stuff like that.
When she goes into the bathroom I have found my opportunity.
Nicolai is staring at me when I look over to him, his eyes narrowing, "you seem tense."
I didn't know what to say to him but other than proceeding with my plan I ask shyly, "I need to go to the bathroom."
"Then I'll take you--"
"I don't need you to hold my hand to bathroom. I can see to it my myself." I snap.
Nico and Dimitri close their mouth then open them with gaping mouths to my outbursts.
I get up abruptly and make my way towards the restrooms. Feeling eyes on my backside until I open the women's door and walk in. When in there are only two stalls and one sink. Looking down to one stall I see her shoes. So I go to the sink and fix my makeup with my pinky under my eyes. Waiting.
Hearing a flush and stall door opening, she gets out and carries her stuff with her while I move to the side for her to place the laptop on the counter to wash her hands.
The girl seems to feel my eyes on the side of her face, because she turns to face me while wiping her hands with a paper towel, "um is there something you need?" She asks with a confused expression.
"HI. My name is Sienna Galeon. I was wondering if I could use your phone or laptop to search for something." I ask nicely, "also what I'm about to say will probably get me killed too because of Omerta and all that. Breaking a code of silence, you see, there are three cold blooded killers of men out there. They are in a Mafia and so am I. The one in the wheelchair...well, he is to be my husband and is the boss man. We made a deal for deal and now I may have screwed myself in this deal. I have no phone to search what I need and if I'm thinking to be right. I want to know if I'm going to die--be murdered in the near future." I ramble, still my mouth doesn't no when to shut up.
There is still not much I know about Nicolai Stone. Actually, I know nothing of him, only how grumpy he can get.
But that therapist, Riverton, may be on to something.
The girl seems to be flabbergasted, "is this a joke?"
Shaking my head, "my life depends on it. So please." I beg.
She looks at me for a moment then her eyes widen, "so the Mafia exists?" She asks with a voice of elation. Hmm odd one.
I nod.
"And this is going to put even my life at risk?"
Tentatively I nod.
"And your life depends on me now?" She clarify.
Okay. "Yes." I think her brain is having trouble grasping it, "if it's clarification you need then peek out that door and you'll see whom I am talking about."
"I-I believe you. It's just I've read books about Mafia stuff and I'm sorry. I'm just cut off guard." She blushes, "is it really like the app books people read?"
We need to hurry, "yes...almost."
She nods with a smile, "then let's get you what you need." She opens her laptop on the counter and turns it on. Putting a pass code in,"my names Samantha by the way."
Samantha puts on a search bar, her fingers hovering over the keyboard, waiting.
So I tell her to find the obituary for Chicago area. Giving her a year of when I was seven and of the man's name. "There are at least twenty Devons here..." She tells me.
"Find one with Italian heritage. "
"Ah okay. There is one. It says Devon Maritto. Age 18. From Italy. It says he was shot in the head and found at a near by street of Hallotin Ave. The police report wrote it is a gang related incident."
Incident?
No.
It was cold blooded murder with a witness of a seven year old eyes. Mine.
My father had lied to me. All of them.
My nightmares were true. Papa could have easily paid off some people to cover it up as such. He does in fact pay cricked cops to do his bidding.
It's all true, it happened. And they told me otherwise.
He killed Edgar Weenie my rabbit.
"There is something else..." Samantha trails off clicking a green tree button that popped up.
"It's probably just a stupid ad." I grumble.
When she clicks on it my world spins off axel.
It's shows a tree line of his ancestors and branching into Devons name and then to another's beside him. It has my birth date and that it's a female.
But what really had my world fall down was the name. For some reason, I try to push away the coincidence.
Sienna Maritto age 20.
No...
It can't be.
But I know it wasn't a lie.
And I'm basically a dead one if Nico finds out I am not blood related to the Galeons. Because blood is blood and they wouldn't have given me anything to do with Edmonds business.
Or marry me off.
It all makes sense now.
Samantha looks over to me with pity, "I thought you said your last name was Galeon?"
I swallow before clearing my throat, "I-I-
A loud bang causes us both to jump and me gasp. Sam closes her laptop while I hurry to flush the toilet to improvise, "occupied!" I shout.
Sam's eyes are mixed with fear and weirdly excitement. She mouths a question, "mafia?"
I refuse to laugh when a deep voice sounds out from the other side of the door, "what is taking so long? Your coffee is getting cold!" Nicolai grunts out.
Another voice comes up from the other side, "the coffee was meant to be cold."
That was Dimitri.
"I may have taken a sip of it. It's actually good."
How dare Donovon take a sip of my drink!
"Drinking cold coffee should be outlawed." Nico grumbles from the other side.
Because 140°F is the only coffee to be drank as Nico likes to think.
Pink blooms around my cheeks when I see Samantha cover her mouth with a hand as if to not laugh at their expense, or mine.
Especially when I told her the most deadly men of the Mafia are cold blooded killers. Instead I get them debating over coffee preferences on the other side of the women's room.
"Can you all just not! I'll be out in a minute!" I yell at the door.
A moment of silence before Nicolai speaks up, "who is in there with you?"
Merda.
"No one." I rush out. Looking over at Sam who seems to have gone completely still with eyes of fear. "I'm alone." I add.
"Then I'm coming in..."
No, he wouldn't.
The door cracked open before I run to it and slam it shut, bracing myself and whisper to Samantha, "I-I think this may be your very first Mafia experience Sam...just pretend you are finishing up washing your hands and pretend that I never told you of anything. Omerta is never to be broken for anyone and I just did easily. They may take you and..." I didn't get to finish because two twins push against the door and make their way in, bombarding the tiny bathroom.
Sam is a statue at this point looking at the men with round eyes.
Donovon stares down at her small form while Dimitri tilts his head at her. Samantha never breaks eye contact from them before squeeking, "hi, my name is Samantha."
She wasn't meant for this life and the pressure of men like them. They would hurt her or possibly kill her if they find out she is in the code of silence.
It took a bit for both the twins eyes to meet mine after looking at Sam. Both with questionable eyes my way Dimitri asks, "you didnt...please tell me you didn't?" He trails off.
Didn't just bring in an innocent college student for my own self assurance?
I did.
Now I feel like a fucking bitch.
Nicolai rolls in finally and sees the girl and then faces me with a disappointment. He knew something was up and now he glues the pieces together. Seeing the laptop in her hands, the fear in her eyes and then my flustered face.
Then the look of betrayal welcomes his features, "what did you do?"
"Nothing!" I lie. Digging a grave for myself.
"Get in the car Sienna. Donovon and Dimitri bring the girl with us--"
No!
"Why? She doesn't know anything! I-I don't even know a Samantha!" I cry out.
I didn't get the chance to feel giddy about how I just said the same thing as Olaf says because Nicolai grabs me by the wrists and tugs me with him on his side of the wheel.
The twins each grasp a hold of Sam as she struggles until Donovon whispers down her ear. That stops her and causes her face to flush in red.
Once we are all in the car, me in the back with Dimitri and Don with Sam in the third row seat. Nico sits in the passenger side while his driver takes off into the street. Once we hit the highway, Donovon swipes Sam's phone and laptop from her and tosses it out of the window. Sam shrieks, "no! My research!"
What surprised me the most was her laying a punch to the side of Don's head.
Wow, girl has guts.
That wasn't even it. Donovon gives her a seething look which causes Samantha to sneer back at him. She attacks with her fingers clawing at his pretty face and arms.
"STOP! YOU FUCKING CRAZY!" Don snaps.
"You just threw away my hundred hours worth of research!"
I straighten and look up to see that Nicos eyes are on me. My heart hurts like a hellfire seeing his frown deepen when he looks away from me quickly. As if he can't stand to see me right now.
But I push down those feelings. Because right now, all I can think about is how nice it would have been to know at any point that Nicolai would feel the same for me as I do to him.
Maybe I should tell him tonight that this is a mistake.
Marrying me will not be a good move for revenge on his part.
As I think it through, I know at the end of all of it.
A bullet will be tunneled into my head.
