Apophis
I vaguely remembered Sky telling me the name of the woman but I had completely forgotten it as I struggled to keep my hands from shaking to obviously in her presence.
"So you're Craig? I hate that name." She grimaced, looking down at me.
Her snaked wrapped around the place where I was standing and I felt chill go up my spine again. Kosmos, I was so uncomfortable. Where was Peri? Something told me he could find out where I was, I mean he was my familiar.
"And you said he might posses some form of magic? Other than flora or fauna?" She tilted her head and stared at me like I was some sort of object.
I couldn't meet her eyes so I just tried to burn a hole in the floor.
"Yes mistress." Eddie' s voice was noticeably higher, he sounded kind of scared. "I've seen it in person."
Her eye widened in curiosity. "Oh have you now?"
Crud, I used on him earlier in the woods. She pursed his lips and gave me another inquisitive tilt of the head.
"Do you know who I am, boy-who's-name-I-hate?"
I panicked, I didn't know if she wanted me to speak or not but when I opened my mouth nothin came out anyway. I was definitely going to die here.
"You will know me by Apophis."
I could feel her voice down my spine, it was extremely unnerving. I felt a hand my shoulder and nearly jumped out of my skin. I glanced up fearfully to see she was staring at me expectantly, way too close to my face.
Apophis smirked, revealing a grin line of pale white white teeth. Her long nails curled around my hands and brought them up so she could look at them. She turned my hands over so she could see my palms. I tried to tug them away but she gripped them tight.
"Well?" She looked down at me pointedly.
"Wh-what?" I stammered, trying to keep my legs from giving out.
"Have you figured out how to use the gift I gave you?" She asked, easing an eyebrow.
My mind went blank. "Um...I don't...I...don't...."
Apophis frowned and looked down at Eddie. "Don't tell me you didn't give it to him."
Eddie's eyes went wide. "I did! I swear I did!"
"Please...j-just let me go." I tried to withdraw my palms from her grasp but her fingernails dug in sharply.
I bit my tongue to keep from whimpering.
"Well this is turning out to be quite the disappointment." Apophis sent a sharp look down at Eddie.
He winced. "But-"
"No." She cut him off. "Don't make me cut your rations."
Eddie gaped. "Mistress, please! I swear I've seen him do it! I swear by Thanatos."
She slapped him across the face and Eddie fell over the floor, clutching the side of his face. He grimaced and didn't get up.
Apophis turned back towards me. "As for you, you really think you can save your friend?"
That hurt. I backed up slowly now that she let go of my hands. A snarl formed on those perfect red lips.
"I'm going to kill him and take every ounce of energy in his body." She promised, she snapped her fingers and the snake on the floor crawled up her arm and curled around her neck.
"Come back to camp once you're done getting rid of him." Apophis sighed, before storming out, her robes curling viciously around her.
With one swish on her cloak the fire in the cave was extinguished and the two of were left in complete darkness. I stood there, shivering, partly from the cold and partly from the fear. I could feel myself welling up, this was too much to keep bottled up. I wiped my face, maybe if I just held it together long enough I could make it go away. No... no I was already crying.
"Well thanks for nothing." Eddie spat. "I guess I won't eat tonight."
"Shut up." I replied, snarling. "My best friend is going to die and you're worried about food."
Eddie went silent. "Sorry."
My hands curled into fists. Why did I even try? I was just barely fifteen and I thought I could rescued my kidnapped friend from a dangerous cult following. I couldn't even control my stupid powers, whatever they were. Nothing I was doing was helping Felix and he was going to die because of me. A felt a tug in my gut from the surge of emotion.
A soft pale green glow filled the cave.
It was only when I wiped my face again did I realize it was coming from my hands. I saw the dim outline of Eddie's face as we both realize where the source of the light was.
"I knew it." He muttered under his breath.
The place where she had slapped his was red and there were little scratched from her long nails.
"I wish I had that, it's so much better than this." He held out his hand next to mine and ignited it, letting our glows fill up the cave a little.
"I don't even know what this it." I sighed.
Eddie tilted his head. "May I? I'm not allowed to tell you much but this...maybe."
I frowned, and he held out his now extinguished hand for mine. Eddie was not the dude I wanted to hold hands with but I guess I didn't mind.
"See?" He brought my hand up to his face where the scratches were.
I wanted to recoil from the intimacy, but didn't out of curiosity. He let my hand drop and then I could see the injury on his face was gone.
I blinked in surprise. "Oh, oh that explains a lot."
It explained where Neve's arrow wound disappeared to, and why the Scobi bus has started repairing itself. I had healing powers.
"You realize I'm going to use this as proof you do have powers right?" Eddie asked.
I looked up at him.
"Still your enemy." He shrugged. "Come on, let's go find your-"
Eddie frowned, glancing behind me. I titled my head, watching his mouth form an 'o' shape. He looked like he had just spotted something confusing. Something that shouldn't be there.
Then all of a sudden a snow leopard jumped through air and tackled him.
