Afterwards

Well we all went to the orphanage close to the station the next day and we waited until each of our parents came to pick us up. Everyone got emotional at the sight of their grown children. The children got emotional at the sight of their real mothers and fathers, and having someone who will actually love them and not the abilities they were given.

Then there was me. I was the last one to get picked up and carried away to my family. That is I was hoping to go home to a family. Days went by and still no one had come to claim me. Made me defiant enough to go to the owner of the orphanage and ask them about my real parents. The response I got was the one that really broke my heart.

"I'm sorry Mellain. Your mother died three years ago in a car accident. She was only fifty five when she passed away. As for your father he died when you were only three years old. He had been addicted to alcohol and many over the counter drugs that one night he did a little too much and died from a drug overdose. I wish I had better news for you Mellain, but now you are the only orphan left from that rhetched place they kept you all in." She shooed me away without another word about it.

I started giving up hope on getting out of here, and I was almost to that point until that one day in May. A two month span from when the children were discovered along with David Carswell's body to now. Someone had come in and had asked to see me to possibly adopt me. Little did I know that it was the man I never expected to love someone that had grown accustomed to being against the law.

It was Detective Malone. I crept down the stairs to maybe catch a glimpse of the man rumored to adopt me and he saw me peeking. His smile all full of joy and at the same time respect. He, out of everyone else knew me. Granted he was really the only one who knew and still knows the real me.

In a flash I had bounded down the stairs and into a warm embrace. He squeezed me tight and smiled down on me. Looked me in the eye and said," Don't worry Mellain. I'm here to take you home."

Home. A word I had only knew as a place to train and become only what your ability granted you. I was going to go home.
