Chapter Ten

Ayame woke up in a dimly lit room, and her first thought was of the cell she had been in most of her life. Her breathing started to quicken and she struggled against the chains holding her down. Ayame started screaming, fear clouding her thoughts too much to think rationally.

Ayame heard the running feet and just started screaming even more, fearing that Kabuto was coming to torture her. Instead, she was wrapped in the arms of a person, the person's black hair falling into her face.

"Ayame-chan, it's okay. We're not going to hurt you."

Ayame stopped screaming, her eyes taking in the form that Kurenai was in. The women had a bandage wrapped around her head and her red eyes had bags underneath them, like she hadn't slept at all.

"K-Kurenai?" Ayame barely heard her voice herself, the tiny squeaky one that came out frightening her. She was thirsty and wanted to go home and lay on her bed, so she could be safe and sound.

"Ayame, before Ibiki comes, I need too know myself," Ayame stiffened, her eyes widening, she didn't want to tell Kurenai anything, she wanted her to think she was the normal girl she knew. "What the hell happened in there? What did you mean by the sound ninja was deceiving us? Ayame, please, you need too tell me."

Ayame couldn't ignore the pleading tone in Kurenai's voice, giving in. "I don't know what Kuri is. I just know that she's not a tailed beast."

Kurenai tried to wrap this around her head, wondering what the hell "Kuri" was then. She just wanted to let the Hokage know that Ayame was no threat, for this, she needed to deliver the information herself before Ibiki came.

"Kurenai-sensei! That sound jounin is deceiving you all though! It's really Orochimaru in disguise and the leaf ninja that quit was Kabuto, his subordinate! You have to believe me Kurenai-sensei, I think he's going to do something horrible to the village!" Ayame now had tears going down here cheeks, once again.

Kurenai didn't waste a second thought and ran out of the room, running right into Ibiki and Inochi. They both just nodded at her, shouting the door behind them. The women just continued running, rushing to get to the Hokage's office.

She didn't waste any time knocking, something she would normally do, instead she just slammed the door right open. The jounin that were inside the room glanced at Kurenai, wondering what had gotten her so worried.

"Hokage-sama! I beg you, please, listen to what I've found out about Ayame and tell Ibiki to stop! Pleas—-"

Kurenai was cut off when the Hokage put his hand up, silencing the female. She was surprised, hoping that he would have let her just continue.

"Kurenai. I understand that you're worried, Ayame is like a daughter to you. I have told Ibiki to use Inochi instead of his tactics. You needn't worry, she's in good hands." The Hokage smiled at Kurenai, nodding his head. He had known this would happen, therefore he had told Inochi to be careful and treat Ayame like she was his own daughter, Ino.

"Then I still have something important to tell you, Hokage-sama." Kurenai was calmed down now, still ignoring the three other jounin standing in the room.

"Go on then."

"The sound jounin," The woman took a deep breath, her eyes trailing up to the Hokage's face. "It's Orochimaru in disguise. The leaf genuine that had quit as well, he works for Orochimaru. Please, Hokage-sama. I wouldn't believe this but Ayame knows this man better then all of us."

The Hokage was quiet for a few minutes, "We will not do anything. Now, before you protest, I will have some ANBU scout him out to make sure what Ayame says is true. The girl is under a lot of stress Kurenai, she may just be delusional since she has found her family."

"It's possible that he's still here, Hokage-sama! He didn't have to leave straight after the attack on Ayame!"

"Kurenai." The Hokage gave the female a stern look, ordering her out of his office she could think things through.

Kurenai walked out of the office, running right into a chunin. She bowed in apology and continued on her way, planning who she would have train Ayame, seeing as the girl wasn't good at what Kurenai specialized in.

That was when the realization hit her, they had found Ayame's sister. That meant the sister was surely going to send word to her clan and they would most likely want to take the young girl back with them.

Kurenai wasn't going to let that happen.

Ayame walked next to Kurenai, her red hair was tied back into a loose ponytail, her forehead protector keep her bangs from her face. She was heading to the third exam and she was extremely nervous. No one had told her who she was going up against and she had trained for a month straight with Kyouki, a jounin who was a close friend of Kurenai's.

To say Ayame was nervous was an understatement, she was so nervous she was sweating badly. Kurenai just patted the girl on the head, chuckling lightly. The jounin kept an eye out for Ayame's sister, just in case she came to confront the girl.

The two came to a stop in front of the arena, Kurenai looking at the young girl. "Are you ready?"

Ayame forced herself to nod, trying to make herself believe she was as well. They each walked into the arena, Kurenai going to sit in the stands and Ayame made her way out towards were the other contestants where standing. They stood waiting for a least five minutes, Ayame realized two of the contestants weren't there yet; Naruto and Sasuke.

Maybe they were out kissing. . .

Ayame shook the thought from her head, her mind playing over the scene that happened in the classroom over again. That was when Ayame heard what sounded like a stampede and the young girl looked over her shoulder at the doors where a very worried Naruto came running through.

Naruto ran into line right next to Ayame and the protector started saying the rules and everything. Ayame, of course, didn't listen, instead she searched the stands for her two teammates that hadn't made it to the third round.

Her green eyes landed on the loud-mouthed inuzuka and her best friend, Hinata. She sent a smile in that direction and wasn't sure whether they saw. the next thing she knew however was that she was now left standing in the center of the arena and she blushed the same color of her hair before running over to the stairs to the balcony she'd be standing on.

Ayame watched Naruto's fight eagerly, frowning whenever Neji Hyuga started going on about destiny and what not. She cheered Naruto on once or twice, when it looked like the blonde was starting to lose and stopped when he was lying down on the ground. She willed him to get up and gasped when Neji got up instead. That was when Neji was sent flying backwards, Naruto standing there grinning like an idiot while being declared the winner.

Next was Sasuke's fight, however, the idiot just wasn't there yet and they decided to push his fight back. Ayame breathed out a sigh of relief, she didn't want to see him get disqualified, and she didn't know why. Was she starting to care more about the people of the leaf?

Next was Shino's fight and Ayame went to cheer the boy on but then his opponent quit and she frowned. Why had he quit?

That was when she realized it was her team and her eyes flickered around the box, her eyes landing on a boy with brown hair. His green eyes seemed to narrow at her and he jumped down from the balcony, Ayame following after him.

"Next fight! Kai Himiwura versus Ayame Yuhei!"

Ayame felt the same feeling from when she had seen her sister and that was when she knew, this was her older brother. The boy who was supposed to protect her from everything and yet, now he was looking at her with the most hate-filled eyes she had ever seen.

"Onii-san. . . " Ayame whispered, her eyes wide as memories of the two of them flashed throughout her head.

"You don't deserve to call me that!" Kai ran at Ayame, his hands moving at a fast pace as he made hand signs and shouted the name of his jutsu, "Water Style: Vine whip!"

What looked like water formed around the male's hand and into the shape of a whip, he threw it at Ayame, the young girl barely dodging.

Ayame tried to remember the hand signs that Kyouki had shown her, her hands moving at a slow pace. She didn't get to finish as Kai ran at her again, forcing her too dodge. However, she didn't move fast enough and the water whip tied around her ankle, forcing Ayame to land on the ground, a grunt coming from the girl.

The girl finally remembered all the hand signs and made them fast, shouting the jutsu, "Water style: Water bullets!"

Little droplets of water formed around Ayame, seeming to be suspended in midair. Kai eyed them carefully before the droplets zoomed at the boy, who tried dodging all of them. Kai missed a few however and they went through his arms and legs, the boy screaming in pain.

The water whip loosened on Ayame's ankle, the girl scrambling up and running away from kai who was limping after her. "IT'S TIME YOU REALLY DIED, KAEDE!"

"NO!" Ayame screamed, covering her ears once again and the jounin who had been at the exams stood up, reaching for their weapons. Time seemed to stop then, or at least start going in slow motion, a wave of chakra came from Ayame.

The young girl however, was still going at a normal time and was shaking her head, her body writhing. "KURI! STOP! STOP! I DON'T WANT YOU OUT!"

Ayame screamed once again, an explosion sounding throughout the arena as time went back to normal. No one could see the arena, the smoke clouding their views but they could hear the sound of metal upon metal.

Ayame growled, her eyes turning gold but her hair staying it's usual color. Kai flew out from somewhere, his katana aimed at Ayame's heart. The girl grabbed the sword, the metal slicing into her palm her eyes went wild, looking crazed.

"You need too learn a lesson, onii-san!" Ayame destroyed the sword, Kai's screaming in terror. As the smoke cleared Kai was still trying to fight off Ayame who seemed to have gain strength from no where.

Kai threw some random jutsu at Ayame, which the girl immediately formed hand signs and slammed her palms to the ground, "EARTH STYLE: PROTECTION WALL!"

A wall of earth rose from the ground forming in front of the girl, protecting her from the fire jutsu Kai had sent at her. The ground went back to normal as Ayame looked around for the male, who had disappeared.

He appeared in front of her, punching her right in the face. She screamed in pain, flying into the wall but stood up instantly, forming the hand signs she had used during her match with Aoi. "Earth style: Spikes of death!"

Spikes formed in the ground, flying towards Kai who dodged all of them except one, his arm getting a huge gash on it. She didn't realize he was still coming towards her or notice he had another katana until he was right in front of her.

The proctor went to call the match, trying to stop what was going to happen from happening but was much too late. Kai brought the sword down, Ayame's right arm slicing off and the sword stopping right above her heart.

Her eyes slowly turned back into their green color, but they were wide with fear. Her brother was grinning at her, Ayame's blood covering half of his face. He didn't look sorry at all for what he had just done.

Kai took the sword out, slowly, making sure that Ayame was having even more pain. The red-head fell backwards, landing right next to her right arm. Her eyes were staring at the sky as she tried to speak, do something. instead, she coughed up a lot of blood and her vision was starting to blur.

Kurenai watched from the stands as Ayame was cut through like she was nothing, her heartbeat seemed like it had stopped. She ignored the shouts of Asuma and jumped down into the stadium, rushing to Ayame's side and getting there before the medics.

Kai stood next to Kurenai, looking down at Ayame with a look of accomplishment before he started towards a medic by himself.

Medic's finally rushed out onto the field, lifting Ayame onto a stretcher and putting her right arm next to her. Kurenai followed after them like a zombie, her heartbeat thumping throughout her body and her blood rushing in her ears. She couldn't afford to lose Ayame, she thought of the girl as a daughter, she was afraid of losing the one thing that kept her pieced together.

Kurenai sat in the waiting room, looking down at her hands which were covered in Ayame's blood. She had been going to stay for Shikamara's match, just for Asuma, but she needed to make sure that Ayame was okay first.

The medics were currently in surgery, attempting to reconnect Ayame's arm. If they couldn't, the girl would be just like Rock Lee and not be allowed to be a ninja anymore.

Kurenai's head snapped up at the sounds of explosions outside and ran out the hospital, just hoping that Ayame would be alright when she got back. The village needed her right now.
