CHAPTER 1

"Another body has been found; the body has been identified by the family. His name is Barry Harvard, age 45, divorced and one kid. The motive of the murder is still unclear.........."

I looked at the TV and scoffed mentally thinking that now every second person in this city is a killer now.

The vibration of my phone broke my chain of thought. I saw the caller ID and rolled my eyes.

"What do you need now?" I said while picking up the phone.

"Now young lady, is this any way to treat your mother?"

Hearing her response, all I could do was laugh bitterly.

"Mother? Which motherly duty did you fulfill? Just tell me what you need and be done with it."

"You have not been visiting us. Your father wants to meet you"

I wonder what it is this time.

"What does he need me for? Was the last surprise not enough? And he is not my father."

"He is your father whether you like it or not. You better show up. Oh, and one more thing next time you talk to me like that I will make sure you regret it- "

Before she could say anything, I hung up on her. She stopped mattering to me when I caught her cheating on my father.

Deciding that I will deal with this later. I picked up my bag and locked my apartment.

On my way to the studio, I looked at the view of the city. If someone is new to this city, it looks so calm but if they look any closer, they will see how scary this city can be.

As soon as I reached my studio, I nodded at the receptionist and made my way to my office.

My office was lit by only the glow of a small, unshaded lamp found on an oak writing desk in the corner. There were no windows, making the room quite dim, but once your eyes adjusted it was a comforting dimness.

The room was painted a bluish gray color from top to bottom, with a simple floral design border all the way around. The ceiling of the room was the same color as the walls and the floor was made of dark brown stained wood paneling.

Next to the only door, there was a coat rack, currently empty. You could tell it was not a cheap one, crafted in such a way that you almost felt as if you could reach out and touch the different flowers that made up the design. Aside from the border and the coat rack there were also potted plants located in strategic places around the room.

Although most of the room was organized with precision, the desk was quite unkempt. The papers that the man had been working on were scattered here and there in a disorderly fashion.

I looked at the mess of the papers and called Laura, my secretary.

There was a knock on my door, and I muttered a 'come in'.

"you called?"

"Yeah, can you clean my desk? I got a call from boss. He wants me to interview Estrove regarding the sniper case and I won't be at the office tomorrow if anything important come up handle it. Contact me unless it utterly important."

I said that looking at her as she wrote everything in her notepad.

"Sure, if there's nothing else I will clean up this mess you made and bring you your usual coffee"

I just nodded and sat on the chair. I was so engrossed in the file that I didn't notice that Laura had brought my coffee and was standing holding it.

"Eve, your coffee"

I looked up and muttered a sorry sipping my coffee.

From the corner of my eye, I saw her leaving. As soon as she was out of ear shot, I called zeita.

After two rings she picked up

"Did you do it? I want you to search whatever you can about this Harvard guy,"

"Yes, it's done but Katherine why search this Harvard and before you asked to search for this girl? What are you planning?" she said that

"Am I going too soft on you that you forget your place? Your job is to do what I tell you not to ask why? Don't ever forget who I am and what I am capable of"

I said that reading the file when something caught my eye.

"I file you sent on that sniper; I want to know from where you got the information on page 5"

I said that looking closely at the picture of a silhouette.

"There was a building, one of the desks had a mini camera. Do you want me to add this information in that?" She said that I could hear her typing on her laptop.

"No, I also want a list of all the latest murders and their suspects, and I don't think I should say don't rule anyone out that's not your job"

"Yes"

There was a knock on my door, so I hung up on her and looked up to see who it was.
