~Chapter 7-Stitches are endless~
You never expected Papyrus to be so serious about his puzzles.
Yeah, everyone has their own hobby, but hanging deadly weapons over a rickety bridge isn't a hobby. That's more like being completely insane and dull minded. Is he really seriously about to make you cross over rotten pieces of plank wood to get to the other side? He had already given his big speech of how he was going to click the red button and everything would cut, swing, and slice.
For a second, it seemed like he watched to press the button anyway. His attitude quickly changed, though.
You point a finger, counting all of the weapons hanging over the bridge. Maybe you would have a good chance at surviving if you just ran? Then the bridge would probably collapse and everything would be a mess; which means you would die from hitting the unseeable ground below. What if he accidentally turned it on while you were running across? You would definitely be killed somehow.
There was an axe, a spiked ball, hatches and flamethrowers. You tilt your head by an inch and see a white colored dog. It seemed like it was frowning.
On the other side of the bridge, Sans and Papyrus watch you with most curiosity. You didn't seem afraid, but more disapproving. Papyrus noticed the second you stepped up to the bridge, his sweet smile instantly trying to twitch into a crazed smile. He knew it was crazy, Sans knew it was crazy, even the dog knew it was crazy. Part of him wanted to press the button, part of him didn't.
"are you going to press the button?" Sans speaks up, knocking Papyrus from his thoughts.
After thinking it over carefully, he decides that your life should never be in danger. He has never seen a human, yeah, but he knows your heart is made of gold. He couldn't possibly be mean to you. But now other big decision is to be made.
Should he befriend you like Sans or should he turn you over to Asgore?
"H-HUMAN, I HAVE REALIZED THAT THIS PUZZLE IS NOT GOOD ENOUGH..."
He pauses, seeing your disapproval fade away like noise.
"I'LL PUT IT AWAY!"
Your glum attitude suddenly switches, lips curling into a grateful smile. Sans just watched without saying anything. He kept his head down, his hands out of site in his hoodie pockets, and his smile was nothing but an faked smirk. You wondered why he was smirking like that but you couldn't just yell out: "Hey, why are you making that face!" That would be kind of stupid.
Papyrus, with shaking hands, clicks a button on the back of his gray remote and all the weapons, as well as the dog, vanish. You let out a sharp breath, feeling the tension release it's hold on your shoulders. For some odd reason, you felt really proud of him. You knew he wouldn't be able to push the red button. He was just too sweet hearted for that.
"I'M GOING TO PREPARE ANOTHER PUZZLE, HUMAN! BYE BYE!" He drops the remote, scurrying off.
Your straightened body slumps over, pressing one clammy palm to the other. You were standing in the middle of falling snow and you're somehow still sweating from stress. Shaking the snowflakes from your damp hair, you shift your body weight forward and start to walk across the bridge. Every board speaks under your foot, your eyes snapping down to the dark abyss right under you. You give a calm shrug of your shoulders and continue to walk. Sans patiently waits for you, foot tapping repeatedly against the snow.
"Your brother is crazy," is all you say when getting to Sans.
Without waiting for a reply, you bend down and pick up Papyrus' gray remote. Sans keeps quiet, his smirk faltering into a huge frown. You pull your arm back and then heave it forward, letting go of the remote. It tumbles down into the dark abyss never to be seen again.
"No one ever needs to use that thing again." You huff, looking over to Sans who gives a shrug.
"like you said, he's pretty crazy." He gives a short reply, turning around and walking off to where Papyrus ran off.
"crazier than you think, kiddo." He mumbles.
Even if he tried to be quiet, you heard him clearly. Was that a warning or was he just stating something? Papyrus doesn't seem SUPER crazy. Only a tiny bit.
But the smallest amount of insanity keeps you sane.
You run up to Sans' side, waving your hands around and stomping your feet. Sans stares at you from the corner of his stitched up eyes, wondering why the heck you were acting like a wild animal.
"should I ask?"
You roll your eyes, wrapping your arms around your waist and trembling. The cold was just now starting to get to you and it wasn't a nice feeling. Your toes hurt, your eyes watered constantly, your teeth chattered, and your fingers looked like they were going to fall off at any minute. Hyperthermia was going to kill you if you didn't get somewhere warm. Lucky for you, it looked like a town was coming up.
"Sorry, but I'm currently freezing my tits off. I'll try to be quiet while I slowly die." You grumble, trying to get him to take a hint.
His hands retract from his hoodie pockets and grab hold of the edges of his hoodie zipper partings. He stops himself, wondering if he wanted to take it off or not. He shakes his head, pulling off his hoodie and handing it to you. Under his hoodie seemed to be a long sleeved, paper white turtle neck. The gray from his scarf really blended nicely with the pure white. Though, the little splotches of blood wasn't a nice touch. It was almost disturbing.
You put on his hoodie, immediately feeling like a hundred bucks. You've only known this guy for a few hours, but it feels like you've know him for forever. You know for a fact he doesn't like parting with his hoodie. You couldn't help but feel extremely special. He's letting you wear his precious hoodie. His left hoodie sleeve had some dried blood on it but it didn't really bother you.
"Thanks, Sans."
He pulls up his scarf to cover most of his smile, giving a shy yet cute nod. He didn't like to show his stitches at all. Now they were out in the open where everyone could see them. It must've been really embarrassing.
"no problem. but in return for my jacket, you have to hold my hand." He gives a sly smile from under his scarf.
He reaches over and snatches up one of your hands in his, happily looking forward, looking completely content with life at the moment. You clench your jaw at his cold hand, complying to his wishes and letting him hold your shaking hand.
"Flirt..." You chuckle under your breath.
"what was that?"
"Nothing!" You give a sheepish smile.
You two shut up, just enjoying each others company. It was odd, but it felt like the two of you were already best friends. With doubts, of course. Everyone has their own suspicions.
As you two walk into the friendly looking town, the two of you pass by a lit sign. Christmas lights lit up the sign like a Christmas tree, which you had to admit was quite cute. But what the sign said made you go completely pale.
It was supposed to say: "Welcome to Snowdin!" but it looks like someone had taken a marker and crossed out the Snowdin part. Now it says: "Welcome to endless suffering."
You swallow harshly, tearing your eyes away from the sign and cuddling up to Sans' side, feeling your happy mood disappear without a trace.
For a moment, you forgot that every monster was suffering. That made you feel useless and utterly upset.
Stitches seems to be everywhere. They're endless.
