Still standing - part 1

When you find out that one of the people you trusted the most has lied to you, used you, pretended to be your friend just to achieve their own unhealthy, yet unknown, goal, you stare into space for an indeterminate amount of time and wonder how it could have happened, you try to give yourself an explanation, but no matter what, you can't find one, not even one that makes sense. And if you've fallen head over heels for that person, if you've ended up falling in love with them, it hurts even more.

This is what was going through Porchay's mind at that moment, in the middle of the night, after a day gone terribly wrong, after his heart was shattered into a thousand pieces by the boy he thought he loved, a boy he struggles to recognize. He had never seen that side of Kim, cold, selfish, careless and totally indifferent to other people's feelings, and apparently to his own, since he was never able to express them.

After leaving Chay to cry and after giving him a "sorry" that Chay didn't understand, he decided to send him a video of himself singing a song. Needless to say, he ended up crying even more when he saw the boy and heard the words of the song. He really wanted to have the strength to delete that video but he couldn't. However, when Kim tried to call him, he blocked her number and took refuge under the covers, without even eating, simply waiting for the night to come, hoping to silence the thousand thoughts that were wandering around his head.

Later, however, when he hears the door of his room open, he closes his eyes and pretends to be asleep.

"Porchay?" Porsche was calling him.

"You're sleeping, right?" He hears him approaching.

"We need to talk tomorrow, I have some news." He concludes, leaving a kiss on his forehead and then leaving the room.

Porchay hopes that the news his brother is talking about is good, he really doesn't need any more bad news.

He closes his eyes again and hopes he can sleep.

The day after...

The sunlight filters through the window of his room and he can clearly see the entire city of Bangkok.  He gets out of bed and yawns, he heads towards the bathroom inside his room and washes his face. He doesn't look very good, his eyes are still slightly red and the signs of crying, although not as bad as yesterday, are still evident. However, he tries to look as natural as possible and to smile, he doesn't want Porsche to worry. He tries to fix his messy hair as best he can, then he gets dressed in a light brown short-sleeved shirt and army green pants. He is about to leave the door, he would like to see Porsche to hear the news he was talking about last night, but he doesn't want to disturb him, he is probably still sleeping since yesterday he and the others came back late from the dinner on the seafront that they organized after the end of the fight with the second family. So, he simply decides to head towards the so-called "canteen" in that big house. He hadn't learned the way yet, that place was truly a labyrinth. Luckily for him, he heard a voice behind him.

"Good morning Chay!" was Tankhun, the first of the three brothers, along with Arm and Pol, his bodyguards.

Since he had entered that world, from the first moment he had set foot in that house, Tankhun had been the first to welcome him, he was really kind to him, he also discovered that he follows the same TV series as him. He finds him really nice, he doesn't understand how others can call him "crazy", he is eccentric, it's true, but why should this affect his person? Well, he doesn't know him very well, he doesn't know his whole story, he can't draw conclusions like he did with Kim.

Thinking about Kim, his face darkens a little, and before he can answer Tankhun's "good morning" and greet the other two, Tankhun speaks: "What's that sad little face? Come on, come have breakfast with us, Porsche and Kinn will already be downstairs." He is taken by the arm and dragged into the house's golden elevator, he puts on a smile and replies: "Krub."

As soon as they all arrive at the cafeteria together, he sees Porsche and Kinn having breakfast and discussing who knows what. He comes forward and says good morning. Tankhun and his bodyguard go to get something to eat. His brother hugs him while sitting and says, "I got you something to eat, go ahead and sit down." Chay does so and starts eating, starting with the rice. He stares at his plate all the while, and doesn't hear Porsche calling him.
"Chay? Are you listening to me?" he says.
Only when he sees Porsche's hand pass in front of his face does he realize, looks at him and asks what's going on.
"Are you okay? You look weird this morning." he says, taking his face and looking at him carefully.
"I'm fine." he replies, smiling fakely.
Porsche doesn't seem very convinced, but decides to believe his little brother.
"Listen, I have some things to tell you." he adds.
"I'm listening." Chay continues.
"As you know, now that I'm the head of the second family, I won't be able to stay here all day, but you don't have to feel alone. You can go out if you want, Kinn will send someone with you." He turns to his boyfriend who in turn smiles at Chay and nods.
"Okay, I'll tell Khun Kinn if necessary, he'll be here, right?" he asks.
"Most of the time, yes, but right now I have to help Porsche, it's not every day that you become the boss of a mafia family." Kinn laughs.
At that moment Tankhun and his two bodyguards arrive and join them, just as the couple gets up to leave.
"Well, we're going now, we have things to take care of. If you have any problems you can call me or Kinn, okay?" Porsche reassures him, giving him a kiss on the hair.
Chay nods and says goodbye. He watches them walk away hand in hand and notices Kinn kissing his brother on the cheek, he smiles because he is happy that his brother has found someone to love and especially someone who loves him.
"They are really cute, aren't they?" Tankhun also has a smile on his face as he watches them.
"Yeah, my brother was really lucky to find someone like Khun Kinn." he nods.
"After his last relationship, Kinn stopped trusting others, even his family, his bodyguards. He kept saying that he would never trust anyone again, that he could only count on himself, and now look at him." Tankhun smiles again, this time looking at Chay.
"Love can change people sometimes." the boy whispers.
Tankhun gives Chay a flirtatious look and asks, "What do you mean by that? Have you found love too?"
Chay huffs, smiling wistfully and replies, "I thought I had found it, but I was wrong."
"If you want to talk about it, I can listen to you, I'm all ears."
Chay in his mind would really like to reply: "You know, the asshole who shattered my heart into a thousand pieces is your younger brother, a true genius at manipulating people and deceiving them, I would like to be as much of an asshole as him and delete the video where he sings for me, but I can't because I've lost my mind, and even if I pretend not to care, even if I blocked his number, I still care about him."
However, he replies: "I met this guy, who I thought was a person, but in the end he turned out to be different than I imagined, or at least how I had known him, he ended up just using me, he didn't care at all about my feelings."
"He's such an asshole! Tell me who he is and I'll go find him." Tankhun gets up from his chair with a rather angry look.
Chay chuckles and then puts a hand on his arm: "Sit down Khun Tankhun, it's not necessary, really, it would be a waste of time, don't you think?"
"Waste of time? I want to tell this guy off, he shouldn't have allowed himself to hurt such a cute little boy like you, what does this guy really have in his head?"
Chay chuckles again. I wonder how he would take it if he found out that the person he's talking about is his brother. Would he still be on his side?
After a few minutes he sees a man coming towards them: "Are you Porchay?"
"It's me." he replies.
"Khun Kinn ordered me to be your bodyguard. I don't think we've ever met before, but I was Khun Korn's bodyguard." the man adds, holding out his hand to shake.
Khun Korn. The man who saved his mother but killed his father. Who knows what he's up to now, and who knows if this guy knows he's still alive, or rather, who knows if keeping it a secret from Tankhun was a good idea like they said.
He shakes his hand in return and gives him a smile.
"I'd like to go somewhere if possible." Chay continues.
"Tell me." the bodyguard replies.
"It's the place where my brother worked before he came here, I don't know if you've been there before but if you have I'll show you the way."
"No problem, let's go."
Chay says goodbye to Tankhun, Pol and Arm and heads to where he just said.

When they arrive at Yok's place, the boss and also a good friend of his brother when she was still working there, obviously doesn't see anyone. Who would go to that place at eleven in the morning?
The woman doesn't seem surprised when she sees him so she shows him a beaming smile and says:
"Chay what are you doing here at this hour? Is there something wrong? Where is Porsche?"
His bodyguard, in all this, was at the entrance so he could talk freely without feeling like there was someone behind his back listening to him, which would be disturbing.
"Porsche is taking care of some business with Khun Kinn, you know he's now the head of the second family? Did he tell you?"
"I didn't know, but what great news! Our Porsche is becoming a businessman." replies the woman.
"I don't know how good it is, the first and second families don't get along very well from what I know, I wouldn't want Porsche to get hurt or be in danger." he adds worriedly.
"In this environment you live in, danger should never be ruled out, but Porsche knows how to defend himself, and then he has Khun Kinn by his side, nothing can happen to him." Yok reassures him.
"Would you ever have thought that my brother and a mafia boss would end up together?" he chuckles thinking about it.
"I honestly didn't think it was possible at first, but when they came here to the club, both alone and not, I could see something in their eyes and that's when I started to understand. Something was changing between them."
"How can you understand that from just their eyes?" Chay asks.
"Well, it's clear, if it's just a friend the look is one, but if it's something more the look is completely different, your eyes shine, you smile at every stupid joke, you always seek his gaze and his attention when you're with others."
The boy nods, starting to understand what he means.
Who knows if he had that look when he looked Kim in the eyes, sometimes he wishes he could see how he himself looks at others. Who knows if Kim has ever had that look Yok talks about when she looked at him. After his behavior he doesn't understand if he ever actually cared about him.
"Do you have anything to drink?" he asks then.
Yok looks at him askance for a moment, then answers: "You're not an adult yet, you can't drink alcoholic beverages. And then Porsche would kill me if I had to serve it to you."
"But Porsche isn't here, he'll never know." he replies, winking at her.
"No way. Here, have a Coke." he picks up a glass and pulls a bottle of Coke from under the counter.
Chay snorts and starts drinking it.
"You look different, you know? I don't know what happened to you, but something in you has changed. Porsche's little brother would never have come to me asking for alcohol."
"Don't think about it too much, Yok, it's still me." he gives her a smile.
He doesn't realize it himself, but since Kim abandoned him, he's become a little more distant, and he's trying to get over it the way adults would.

After finishing his glass of coke, he gets up and heads to the bathroom. Once done, he washes his hands and his face. He looks at himself in the mirror and tells himself to be strong and courageous.
When he opens the door to leave, he sees someone leaning against the wall and gets scared.
When he recognizes him, his heart skips a beat.
"K-Kim?" he says only.
"You blocked my number, the only way to talk to you was to see you." he replies.
"We have nothing to say to each other." Chay starts to leave but Kim stops him by the wrist.
"Wait. I-" the boy starts to assert.
"You don't have anything to do with it, Kim. Whatever you want, it's none of my business. And how did you know I was here?" he asks, shocked.
"Does it really matter now?" the other asks.
"Are you serious? This whole time you've been using the excuse of teaching me guitar so you can find out who knows what about me, my brother, my entire family. You decided to spend time with me just so you could check me out, damn it, what normal person would do that?"
Kim looks down, knowing she can't say it again.
"Did you see the video I sent you?" she changes the subject.
"Does it really matter now?" Chay says the same and walks away, wriggling out of her wrist.
He quickly says goodbye to Yok and asks his bodyguard to take him home. Right now, all he wants to do is lock himself in his room and cry.

On the other side Kim...

"Shit! Fuck!" Kim returns to his house, where he lives alone, far away from everyone. There is only a bodyguard with him.

He goes to his office and takes the board that he had built over the course of these months regarding the murder of Porsche and Chay's parents.
By now he knew that his father was involved, deep down he always suspected it, deep down, he never trusted his father.
This is one of the reasons why he decided to leave his home and go live alone, to start a new life and follow his dream of becoming a singer with the name of Wik.
This is what he wanted to do most in life, but he also wanted to investigate his father.
He was always respected by Kinn and Tankhun, they always saw him as a good father, however he always noticed something shady behind his figure. Therefore, the reason why he came to this is precisely this.
His father had killed Porsche and Chay's father, he had instead saved their mother from suicide.
Ironically, that woman was his adoptive sister.
And it seems that because of all the pills his mother had ingested at that moment, a part of his brain is as if burned. He says he doesn't remember his children and many other things.
"But who do you want to believe that?" he slams his hands forcefully on his desk.
Immediately afterward he calls his bodyguard who was outside the office and asks him to come in.
"I need you to find out everything you know about this woman." She hands him a photo of Porsche and Chay's mother.
"Okay, Khun Kim, do you want me to find out anything in particular?"
And she would have loved not to be asked that question, but after swallowing the lump in her throat she answers: "I want to know if she had any other relationships and if she had another child from them."
"I'll try to find out as quickly as possible, give me some time." the man replies.
Kim simply nods and once the man leaves the room she sits on the chair and runs her hands through his hair.
Will all this ever end? This is what she asks herself mentally.
After a few minutes she takes out her cell phone and calls Chan, her father's bodyguard:
"Chan?"
"Khun Kim, what do I owe his call to?"
"Nothing in particular, I just wanted to know if you've heard from my father these days."
"I hear from him often, I'm his bodyguard after all, even though few of you know he's still alive, he always makes himself heard."
"Good. I heard Porsche's brother moved there too, how's he doing?" he asks later.
"I couldn't tell you, I think. Why are you asking me? Do you know him?"
"Actually yes, Tankhun mentioned him to me a while ago, when I came back home. I left there because I didn't want to live in this environment anymore and I wanted to pursue my dream, I think you know that, so I wonder: how would a boy his age live it?" Kim plays his part.
His real intent, however, was to know how Chay was after meeting him.
"I don't think he minds being here, Khun Tankhun has taken him under his wing. I could tell he almost considers him a brother. Khun Kinn even ordered me to be his bodyguard."
"I understand. If you have any news to tell me, call me, you know what I mean."
"Definitely, Khun Kim."
After hanging up, he thinks he should pop over one of these days and look through his father's office, like he did before. He found a diary, and on one of the pages were handprints. He couldn't find out much else since his father showed up in the office just moments later. But he's sure he'll find more, that there's more, that this story won't end any time soon.

After returning from Yok's place, Chay went to his room, started crying and didn't come out. He heard his bodyguard talking on the phone and from what he understood, it seems that it was Kim who called him. What does he want to do? Check on him through his bodyguard? But doesn't he feel a little guilty? Pretending to worry about him and how he is in that house just to be able to keep an eye on him is really an asshole.
He would really like to hold back the tears that he is letting out but he can't, he cries silently so as not to be heard by the man outside his door.
He doesn't even notice that someone knocked on the same door and that someone entered his room. It was Porsche.
"Chay?! What's going on? Why are you crying?" he asks alarmed, then closes the door behind him and positions himself on the bed.
"It's nothing." he wipes away his tears.
"It's nothing, Chay, will you tell me what's going on?" Porsche asks again.
"Please don't ask me questions now." Chay simply replies and hugs him, then continues to cry.
Porsche strokes his hair, worried at seeing his brother in that condition. He doesn't remember seeing him like this before.
After a good ten minutes, Chay wriggles out of Porsche's embrace and wipes away his tears.
"If you don't feel like talking about it, we can do it later or whenever you want, but I think it'll be better for you too if you vent."
Chay then decides to talk about it, after all he has nothing to lose. And then, it can do him good to confide in his brother, he knows he can tell him everything, he knows he will never be judged by him.
"Do you remember when I told you about that singer I love and who came to university? Wik, do you remember him?" asks Chay.
"The one you have I don't know how many photos of hanging in your room at our house?" Porsche chuckles.
Chay would like to do the same but he's not in the mood, so he just nods.
"Well, you also know that he was my tutor, he taught me to play the guitar, to write a song, and that we ended up becoming very good friends."
Porsche encourages him to continue.
"I found out that in reality he just used me because I was convenient for him." he adds.
"It really is shit." Porsche continues.
"He's always been so kind to me, thoughtful, always showed me affection, even made me laugh many times, besides helping me with music. I didn't expect that from him," she says.
"I know it's sad to say Chay, but people like that are better lost than found." Porsche caresses his shoulder.
"But I love him, Porsche." he blurts out before he can realize it.
Porsche immediately changes his gaze and is a little stunned.
But then he answers: "And does he know?"
"He knows." Chay replies, sniffing.
"Come here." Porsche hugs him.
"What do you think I should do?" he asks.
"There are two things you can do. Either you try to forget him, but you have to do it seriously, or you try to take him."
"But he doesn't love me." Chay adds.
"You know, sometimes people are not always able to express their feelings because of shyness, fear or even trust. Take Kinn as an example, he didn't even trust anyone after his past, and yet he managed to feel again." Porsche concludes.
"Kim doesn't trust anyone, really. She's really impenetrable." Chay says to himself.
"Did you say Kim? Like Kinn's brother?"
And Chay can't do anything now, he couldn't keep his mouth shut and now he's forced to admit to his brother that he's in love with his boyfriend's younger brother.
"Yes, that's him. Wik would be Kim spelled backwards." he scratches the back of his neck in embarrassment.
"I can't believe it. Do you like Kinn's brother?"
"Is there something wrong with that?" he asks.
"There's nothing wrong with that, really, but from the way you've told me about him, he seems like a real asshole." Porsche continues.
"When I first met him, he wasn't like that, it was when I found out who he really was that he decided to abandon me."
"Maybe he doesn't want to put you in danger, have you ever thought about that?" Porsche asks.
"Khun Kinn took a risk with you, I don't think that's the reason." Chay shrugs.
"But Kinn and Kim are two completely different people, you said that yourself. You can't know what's going on in his head."
"I really don't know, I really don't know who he is, since his only interest seems to be our family." the younger brother continues.
"What do you mean?" Porsche doesn't quite understand his statement.
"When I said he used me, I meant that he did it because he already knew you were my brother before meeting me, and when he asked me some questions about our family I thought they were just questions to get to know me better, but apparently he's planning I don't know what." he says.
"And you're just telling me this now? Do you realize that he could be a danger to you?" Porsche blurts out.
"Kim would never hurt me, you're wrong."
"You can't know, maybe he's plotting a murder and you don't know it," Porsche replies.
"Don't you think you're exaggerating?" asks Chay.
"Kinn must know, he must know that he has been investigating our family until now."
"No, you must not tell Khun Kinn." Chay stops him immediately.
"Why shouldn't I? At least they can talk about it between brothers and understand what Kim's intentions are." Porsche states.
"Even if they did, Kim will never admit his true intentions. When I said he doesn't trust anyone, I meant anyone, including his family."
"Do you know him well enough to say that he doesn't even trust his own blood?" Porsche asks.
"After showing me who he really is, I'm sure of it."
"So to protect your friend, I should keep from Kinn the fact that he is investigating our family and that he is planning something we don't even know about?"
"Please Porsche, don't tell Khun Kinn about this, I don't want to get both of us in trouble." he is really begging him.
"Are you saying that because you have feelings for Kim?" Porsche asks at that point.
"I'm not just saying that. I'm also saying it because I'm afraid for both Khun Kinn and Kim, they could misinterpret the other's actions, consequently act in the wrong way and hurt each other, this could create a rift within the family, and the latter would also suffer. Kim hasn't lived with his family for years now, we don't know what he's up to, so it's better to leave him alone to avoid the others suffering too."
"Okay. I won't tell Kinn, but if Kim makes any new risky moves with you or hurts you again, don't stop me. He'll have to deal with me." Porsche is serious when he says these words.
