The loud beeping of my alarm woke me up from a very heated dream. To make it Rated PG13, the dream involved a bed and some unused bed sheets and pillow pilling on the floor, with only a warm, soft and toned body keeping me warm. The rest I'll leave for your wild imagination. But, the weird thing about that dream, I don't know who was the guy with me. That part of my dream was erase the moment the alarm pulled me back to reality.
Sighing in frustration, I rolled myself at the edge of my bed and sat up. I sat there for a while until I get full consciousness to my surroundings. I looked down on my wrinkled up dress, remembering that I didn't change at all last night and went directly to bed.
Before I could get up and take a bath, my door bell suddenly rings. I stiffen at its sound send thoughts in my head as I guessed who it was. With as fast as I can, I took off the dress and covered myself with my thick bathrobe and tie my hair up. When I was contented with my current look, I skipped towards the door, shouting for the person to wait a second.
"Yes. What do you want?" I asked out right, not bothering to look in the peephole as I opened the door. It was like last night's encounter haven't yet instilled in my head.
"I'm so sorry for bothering you." Logan said softly, looking anywhere but my eyes.
"Logan... I'm..." I stuttered trailing off, feeling embarrassed about my bunt greeting and my current choice of wardrobe.
"I wanted to ask if you were ready, but I can see that you're still... Uhm..." he said as he cleared his throat, his eyes still looking anywhere but towards me.
"Right. Can you give me another half an hour? I just woke up." I admitted shyly, my voice almost a whisper.
"Sure. Just knock on my door when you're finish." He said as he walked backwards slowly to his place.
"Okay." I replied with a slight nod. "I'll see you then." I added as I slowly close my door.
"Okay." He said with a curt nod, and then bumped on his door, making him huffed out in pain.
"Are you okay?" I asked, holding back my giggle as I look at him in concern.
"I'm fine. I'm fine." He chanted softly as he rubbed his hand at the back of his head, looking down in embarrassment; his ear slowly turning pink. I turned around and entered his apartment, closing his door with a last nod of his head, still looking down in embarrassment.
When he was finally inside, I let out a soft chuckled at his actions before turning back inside my apartment. I skipped back to my bedroom with enthusiasm and take my bath. I timed myself in getting ready in less than half an hour, as much as I can. Since I'm a girl, half an hour is not enough to get ready; I know Logan knows that much about women.
An hour and fifteen minutes later, I was now finally standing outside Logan's door, unable to knock. It was almost ten thirty and we planned to meet at nine. So, I was hesitant and embarrassed at my tardiness. To not prolong his wait, and hoping that he isn't angry with the wait, I gather up my courage and knock.
After two knocks, the door opened, revealing a small view of Logan's living room.
"I'm so sorry for making you wait." I greeted shyly as I glaze my eyes on the view behind him.
"Nice apartment." I added.
"Thank you." He replied calmly, not a trace of anger in his voice. Because of this, I took it as a good sign for me to finally look at him. "Are you thinking that I'm angry right now for making me wait long?" he asked, smirking.
"Maybe." I admitted lightly as I look away again, a sign that he got it on point.
"Right. I'm okay with it. Let's go then, I'm late enough as it is." He stated as he stepped out of his place, closing the door behind him, his voice teasing.
I stared at his back and rolled my eyes, shaking my head at hand in trying to tease me. I walk on ahead of him to the elevator and click on the button for the lift to go up. It didn't take awhile for it to get on our floor, and now we are on our way down in the close, confine space, just the two of us. Oh joy!
The drive to the hospital was silent and short, it was a miracle that there was no traffic since it's a weekend. Maybe people are staying in today or what not. When we arrived in the hospital, I asked him to drop me off in the main entrance. I didn't want us going in together, that alone would lead to a burning gossip for the staff who knew him - though some knew me too since my brother worked in the pediatric ward.
After waiting for almost ten minutes, Logan finally entered the facility. Since I mostly kept my eyes on the entrance, I was able to relish the moment when Logan walked in those electronic doors. He looked so graceful in his white linen shirt and dark blue jean with his dark brown boots. I sometimes wonder why he wears boots even though this is the city not the Wild West.
"Hey. They've already prepared the room." Logan said as he approached me from the counter, talking to the nurse about something.
I glance at the counter for a second, where I caught the two nurses looking away from us. I could almost taste the rumor and gossip in the air. I didn't say anything in reply and stood up from my chair, gesturing for him to lead the way.
When we reached a small clinic like room with a bed in the center, I didn't hesitate twice and sat down on the edge of the bed. As I took my seat, I looked around the room. There was a sink and cabinet on the right side of the bed, which looked identical to a kitchen counter. Then, I was distracted by my assessment of the room when someone entered the room.
"Doctor Stanley, the equipment would be ready in just a minute." The nurse said sternly to Logan.
"Thank you, Penny." Logan said to her with a curt nod as he fixed his white lab coat, which I didn't notice he had.
"So." He announced, clapping his hand once to get my attention as I kept my eyes on the close door when the nurse leaves the room. "You can just relax for a while and bond one last time with your cast." Logan added with a smirk, his eyes glistening in amusement at his remark.
"Ha. Ha. Very funny." I replied sarcastically and stuck my tongue out at him like a kid.
"Very mature, Ally." He remarked, still smirking.
"So, what should I be doing as you removed this from my arm?" I asked, back to business, as I glance down at my casted arm and back at him.
"Nothing." He replied with a small smile. "Just seat there like a statue until I finish. It would only take a moment."
"Okay." I nodded as I took a steady breath.
I can't really lie to myself at this moment. I'm really scared. Even though the thoughts about the accident never crossed my mind for the duration of my hand's healing, it doesn't mean the thought is entirely gone in my head. I'm just good at acting like I forgot about it. But, in truth, I'm not over on the fact that I got into a car accident. I'm even prolonging myself from getting a new car. Sure, I can ride in one, but driving one is entirely a different story.
"Hey. Just breathe. This won't hurt, I promise." Logan said softly as he light shook my shoulder, bringing me back to reality.
I didn't notice I was holding my breath the whole time. As I look up at those familiar blue eyes, I slowly take in a steady breath, giving relief to my strained lungs. I don't know how long we stayed there like that, his hands on my shoulders and his eyes on mine as I breathe in and out, but it was long enough for the nurse to come back.
During the procedure, I kept a steady breath and kept my eyes on Logan's face as he worked on removing my cast. Every now and then, he would look back at me with a small reassuring smile and then look back down on his work with his face crunched up in concentration. His soft, light caress of his fingers played a short part of the sanity of my mind in that moment. For, I knew I was in good hands.
"You're now a free woman." Logan announced as I felt the air brushing past my naked uncasted arm.
I chuckled at his hand on making a bad joke of the situation. "Thank you." I said as he took a step away from me as he started putting things away.
"It's my job." He replied with a smile before he returned back to his work.
Then, before I can think of another conversation, there was a knock on the door.
"How is my sister?" Tristan asked as his head pop in the small opening of the door.
"Tri!" I exclaimed, jumping out of the bed and ran towards him in a bear hug.
"Woah! Chill out sis. You're not six anymore." He stated in mock tease but returned my hug anyway.
"Hey. We're just done here. She did great." Logan said as he dried his wet hand. "I'll send you the check later." He added in a straight face.
"Right. Got it." Tristan nodded in recognition as he let me go.
I looked at my brother with my eyebrow raised. "Who said you're paying my hospital bill?" I asked him, holding myself back for any further comments that are rude.
"Mom." He answered like it was the only explanation he needs, which is true. My mother can be controlling sometimes too.
"God, the woman has no boundaries sometimes. And, I'm aware that she is our mother, Tri." I said and held up my hand to stop Tristan from commenting on my first sentence. "I'll pay you back, don't worry." I added.
"No, it's okay Ally. You've had a really rough year, let me help you with this one." Tristan insisted, as he grabs hold on me again and gave me a hug.
"That's very generous of you." I said as I hug him back, slightly taken back by my brother's sudden kindness. I think something happened and this is not a good place for me to ask him, which is why he was doing it now. The man knows his moments.
"Well, I think I'm going to head back now. I've got some patients to attend to." He stated as he slowly let go of me and moves towards the door backward. "Logan, take care of my sister will you. Thanks." He added sternly to Logan as he opened the door behind him. "Bye." He stepped out of the room within a second before we could react to his words.
I stared at the close door in surprise, but gathered myself in an instant before I turned my attention back to Logan. "I'm so sorry about my crazy brother. He's just annoying sometimes." I explained as I shook my head in disagreement.
"No worries." He replied with a small smile. "Hey. Do you want to go get a drink after? You're actually my only patient today." He admits shyly as he sways at the balls of his feet.
"What?" I asked, slightly taken back by his confession. "What do you mean by...? Why would you do that?" I added, stuttering to get the words out.
"You're brother bribed me." He replied with a smirked as he shook his head in amusement.
"Is that a joke?" I asked, unsure. He may try as much as he can but he is not a funny person.
"Yes. And, I think I agree with you that I'm not funny." He stated, chuckling at himself as he took off his white coat. The muscles on his shoulder flexed underneath his white linen shirt, which was quite distracting.
I looked away from him, feeling my face heat up and did not comment. I think he just made me speechless unconsciously just by his actions. I snapped out of my thoughts before he walked up to me, gesturing his hand towards the door for me to go.
I think he wasn't joking on the fact that I was his only patient for today. While I signed something in the counter - paying the bill before my brother does - , in my peripheral vision, I saw Logan talked to a doctor a few feet from me and hear, with my long range hearing, that it was his off day today. When I finished paying and him talking to the doctor, I gathered my courage to ask him seriously why he came in today. But, this only happen when we were finally in the confines of his sports car and driving away towards a pastry shop that he suggested we go, his treat.
"Okay. Don't down play it anymore, why did you take my appointment today? You were supposed to be off today." I said when he stopped the car on a stop light.
"How do you know when is my off day?" Logan countered, ignoring my question.
"I overheard your conversation back in the hospital." I mumbled in admission, feeling my cheeks heating up.
"You sure have ninja like hearing." He remarked, chuckling as he glad at me for a second, his eyes glistening in amusement.
"So? Tell me." I insisted sternly, not letting him side track me again.
"I saw that you were feeling irritated by it, and from my assessment, your hand is completely healed. So, I asked you whether you want it off or not, and you said yes." He replied lightly, like he just admitted freely his true feelings.
I turned to look at him, my mouth slightly open as I try to think of a reply. But there were no words coming out of my mouth. Again, he held me speechless. How can he do that to me?
After that, there was a definite silence lingering between us. But, it was an awkward silence. When he slowed down the car, I knew that we have reached out destination. I turned my attention on the buildings on the side of the street. I try to locate the pastry shop which he wanted me to take, which he said was praise worthy. As he parked the car after driving a few more blocks, I got out of the car without waiting for him to take his key out of the ignition.
The pastry shop had a clear glass wall which gives you a view of the whole store inside. It had a wooden interior. Walls made of wood, chairs and table that are a color of cream white, but you can be sure that underneath it is wood. It was simple yet elegant at the same time.
"What do you think?" Logan asked as I stopped walking, standing in front of the main entrance.
"I'm... I'm..." I stuttered for a second, my thoughts in jumble. "I think I'm in heaven." I said finally in a whisper.
"I know you would love it." He stated softly as he grabs my arm and pulled me towards the door. "Well, get inside."
We both walked up to the register which only a few people are in line. I'm now doubtful about his judgment on this place. If this is as good as he said it should be packed.
"Don't worry. If you don't like it, you could punch me with your now healed hand." He said suddenly, making me turn to look at him.
"I don't want to injure my new hands with such useless act. I can have Tristan beat you instead if that's what you want." I countered with an evil smirked. For a second, he took me there. I can't believe he read my mind. Or, is my face that easy to read?
When it was finally our turn to order, I went with their most famous pastry, a strawberry tart.
"You should try their Caramel Macchiato here. I promise you, it's as good as Rayne's." Logan said after I gave my order.
"Okay." I replied as he ordered me the drink.
He insisted on paying for me saying that it was his treat to celebrate for my free arm. I wanted to refuse, but since it's free, why would I turn down an offer? Okay, I know that this situation seems entirely different from an outsider, but as long as I'm fooling myself, I have not comment about it.
We took a seat near the glass wall. The place wasn't that packed, which made the atmosphere slightly intimate that I wanted it to be. Again, I'm going to trick my mind about those feelings. So, I silently sat down and turned my attention towards the view of the streets. When our order came, I was reeled back to where I was and to whom I was with. Now, I felt rude for ignoring him.
