Epilogue
Epilogue
The light streaming from my window was too bright that it woke me up. Well, also the loud sound from outside my apartment was another factor in disrupting my sleep. In a heavy sigh, I rolled myself out of bed and drag my heavy feet to the bathroom. When I was finished freshening up and ready to go, the first thing I saw after opening my door were men in blue jumpsuit. Maybe for other women, it was a dream coming true, men covered in sweat with muscle flexing as they carry huge boxes inside the apartment across from mine, but that's not me.
"Hey. Good morning. I'm sorry about the ruckus so early in the morning." A tall, slim, tanned brunette girl stood in my view, reeling me back to reality.
"No. It's okay. I was already awake. Actually, the noise helped me wake up so I wouldn't be late for work." I replied with a smile as I studied her for a second. She was a pretty woman, though she looked out of town from the plain white shirt and jeans she was wearing. She might be one of those girls who don't like fashion, or dressing up nicely. Annette would have a field day with this girl.
"I'm Andy, by the way. I'll be moving here starting... Now, I suppose." She stated, slightly unsure at the end as she held out a hand towards me to shake.
I shook her hands and offered her a warm smile. She looks like she isn't from around here. "Ally. It's nice to meet you Andy."
"So, do you live here long? Any places you'd advice for me to see?" She asked shyly as she tries to keep up small talks.
"No, I just moved here." I replied, which made her eyes gleam brightly for a second. "But, I've lived in this city since I graduated collage. I just had a nasty break up with my boyfriend and here I am." I added, not sure why I told her that old tale.
"Oh. I'm so sorry about that." She replied sadly, feeling shy again.
"So, where are you from?" I asked, out of courtesy, since she started to look uncomfortable.
"Oh. I'm from the south. I move here for some family issue. And, I got this job, that's why I could afford this place." She replied with a small smile, but shook her head right at the end, smiling like there was some inside joke that I don't know.
"Oh. Where do you work?" I asked out of curiosity.
"Ah... Uhm... Ah..." She stutter, looking unsure whether to reply to it or not.
"You know, you don't have to tell me, right? I was just being polite." I stated with a chuckle to get her out of her misery.
"No. It's just... I work for the Maxwell Enterprises as a secretary..." She replied shyly, like she was ashamed of her job.
"Maxwell?" I asked, taken back by the name. "You mean you work for William Maxwell?"
"Yeah." She gave me a curt nod and looked away from me, like she didn't like to discuss about it.
"Oh. I'm so sorry if I sound like a freak, or something. I mean, William Maxwell is the bachelor of the bachelors in the city. The man owns half of this town..." I stated in awe, not sure if she was telling me the truth. I mean, why a country girl would get a job with all time, rich and famous, William Maxwell unless you were. "Are you sleeping with him?" I asked bluntly. I covered my mouth as she turns to look at me angrily. "I'm so sorry; I didn't mean to sound..." I stuttered in apology.
Andy looked away from me and sighed. "No, it's okay. I'm not sleeping with him; don't worry about that if you are his fan. The man is a jerk anyways..." she mumbled in reply.
"Don't worry. I'm not a fan." I replied with a chuckle. "You might be the only girl I knew who isn't attracted to his charms. I thought every girl that works for that man is under his spell." I stated in awe.
"I know what you mean." She agreed with a smile. "That is why his sister hired me." She added with a wink. "I should get back with the crew and finish unpacking." She stated as she walked towards the door across from mine.
"It was nice talking to you." I gave her a curt nod as I paced towards the elevator. "Hey!" I called, stopping on my track. "How about I'll treat you for a drink this evening? If you are free." I offered.
"Sure. That would be nice." She answered with a small smile.
"Okay. Nice meeting you, and see you this evening." I gave her a short wave before entering the elevator.
I kept my smile as the elevator door closes and descends. It was nice that the person who is living across from me is a nice person. Someone who, at least, had a single opinion that agrees with mine. But, she was a mystery. She was nice, which is a plus, and I think we could be friends. Though, I don't get why her name is a boy's name, maybe it was a nickname.
When I reached the lobby, I gave a small waved to Tanya, who was by the reception desk with a phone on her ear. As I got out of the building, a silver Camaro was parked right out front. I smiled at the car and hopped towards it. I opened the car door with a smile and got in gleefully.
"You are in the mood today. Did something good happen?" Logan asked with a smirk tugging on the end of his lips.
I kissed him before replying. "Nope. I'm just happy being with you in this moment."
He chuckled at my answer and shake his head in amusement. He turned on the ignition and drove the car to my work place, as he usually does almost every day.
"Hey. I'll pick you up back here around five. Or, do you want to meet for lunch today?" He asked as he parks his car in front of my workplace.
"I'll text you." I replied as I cupped his face. I lean forwards and gave him a light kiss, and pull away when he started to rap me around his arms. "No. That's it for you, right now." I warned him teasingly, scolding him like a child.
He pouted as he stared back at me pleadingly, playing along. I laugh at his expression and gave him another kiss. But, this time, it was longer and more passionate. After a few last kisses, he finally let me go, which left me breathless as I got out of the car. I should probably discuss to later that we shouldn't be making out first thing in the morning. I felt already drained because of it.
By lunch, I was busy with finalizing the layout for the next month issue. So, I couldn't have lunch with him. But, having that extra time paid off and I finished early, I texted him to pick me up early after his shift.
I waited for his arrival around five, after his text, outside the main entrance. But, it wasn't him who I came across. I didn't notice him at first until he called my name.
"Ally? Hey! How are you?" Andre called as he jogged towards me.
"Andre, hey. I'm doing well. How are you?" I replied, giving him a short, discrete hug.
"I'm doing well, too. I just got back from a business trip, actually." He replied as we both stepped away from the hug. He held me in both hands, in arms length, as he glance at me from head to toe. "You look good. Happy actually." He added after a short pause.
"Thank you. You too." I replied shyly with a small smile.
"So, did you...?" He asked but trailed off as he looked away shyly.
"If you are wondering about Logan and me, well then, yes we are." I replied, smirking at his uncomfortable, shy expression.
"I'm glad that you are happy. And, congratulations to you." He stated with a genuine smile.
Before I could say and asked him about his love life, a car honked and interrupted us. I turned and looked where the noise comes from and saw the familiar silver Camaro parked in front of us. Andre followed my gaze and smirked. Logan rolled down the side window.
"Hey! Pierce! Where have you been man?" Logan called, beaming at Andre.
Andre gave him an answering smile. "I've been busy with business, unlike people I know." He shouted back with a chuckle.
I smiled at the two of them, seeing a friendship still intact after what happened. Sometimes, men are simple creature, which I couldn't possibly understand. I gave Andre a half huge as goodbye before walking towards Logan. When I finally got in, the window still down, I gave Andre one last wave before Logan hit the gas pedal.
On the drive, Logan asked me about work and my day, but never my meeting with Andre, which made me hopeful. He trusted me. I mentally smiled at that thought. When we reached to Annette's drive, there were cars already parked out front. We had to park a few blocks.
"Did you get the cake?" I asked in a sudden realization as he turned off the ignition.
"Oh!" He gasped as he turned to look at me in shock. I looked at him, my face fell. He suddenly erupts into a roll of laughter as he shook his head back and forth. "I got it. Don't stress yourself out." He said, still chuckling.
He got out of the car in the same time I did and went opened the back. There in the middle, covered in a box, was the cake I ordered days before the event. I gave me a quick kiss as he closed the hood, which made me chuckle.
Hand in hand, we walked towards the house. As we got to the porch, I told him to stay put and went around back when nobody answered the bell after two rings. When I got around back, the back yard was filled with people. Before anyone could notice me, I went back to get Logan. But, when I got there, he wasn't where I expected he'll be. So, I went around back again. As I got there, I wasn't able to find Logan as the girls got to me.
"So, how's the love life?" Rosie asked as she stepped in front of me.
"Have you guys gone past first base yet?" Noelle interjected as she joined Rosie, hugging her by the shoulders.
"Did you guys finally have sex?" Meg asked after, as she surprised me from behind, hugging me suddenly.
"Oh. God." I mumbled, closing my eyes in defeat.
"So?" they all asked the same time as I didn't answer any of their questions.
"Would you girls help me? I thought you're here to help out." Annette suddenly appeared, saving me from the interrogation.
"Okay." Noelle said, and she walks away towards the kitchen. In the same moment, Rosie followed her with a salute. "But, we were about to get to the good stuffs..." Meg stated back, whining like a kid as she held me still in her embrace.
"Meg. If you don't help me out, I would tell all the single man in this party about that one time in college." Annette threatened as she looked at her in challenge.
"You wouldn't." Meg stated in shock, gasping dramatically.
Annette kept her grown and raises her eye brows at her without answering. We all knew that Annette can be scary if you don't keep your word. In defeat, Meg let go of me and followed Noelle and Rosie. When she wasn't in view, I mouthed to Annette a thank you. In reply, she winked at me and smiled evilly. I shook my head in amusement and went up to her.
"Congratulations and welcome back." I said as I gave her a light hug.
"Thank you." She replied as he let me go. "So, where is your man?" she asked after, her eyes twinkling in amusement.
"If you are going to interrogate me, I'm walking out of this party." I said sternly as I eyed her deadly.
"I was just kidding. We already know you both went beyond second base. You're absolutely glowing today. Who could miss that?" Annette said with a smirk and chuckled at her own words.
"Is it that obvious?" I asked, humoring her, and chuckled. "Actually, we haven't had sex yet." I admitted, giving her a shy smile.
"Oh. So, that would mean. If you actually have sex, you would be brighter than the sun." She remarked with a beaming smile.
I gasped at her words and elbowed her lightly in mock anger. But, I was smiling all the time. "He just makes me happy." I stated with a sigh of contentment.
Annette looks at me for a moment, her eye gleaming like she was proud and contented. "I'm glad to hear that." She stated with a small smile.
"Hey. There you are. I was looking for you." Logan interrupted us, suddenly appearing beside me. He paused when he saw Annette. "Oh. Annette. Congratulations." He adds.
"Hello, Dr. Stanley." Annette greeted him formally, which made me smirk.
"Please, call me Logan. You don't have to be so formal. I don't know why you are so formal now when... Oh, I get it." Logan stated but trailed off as he glanced between me and Annette, who was looking at him with amusement.
"I've got to host this party. I'll talk to you guys later." Annette said excusing herself after a short paused while we giggled at his embarrassment.
"We were just joking around. Don't worry. You'll get her someday." I whispered to Logan after Annette walked away, tipping my toe until my mouth was by his ear.
"I'm hurt. You're making fun of me." He whispered back, sounding offended. Though, I could hear the smile in his voice.
"How about I'll do something that might change that?" I asked as I soften my voice, making it more of a caress.
Logan wrapped his arms around my waist in reply, his face still inches from mine. "Oh. I don't know if that will work. My feelings were pretty much hurt. It depends on what that something is." He whispered back, his voice deep and raspy.
Suddenly, my heart beat quicken in reaction to his voice. What this man can do with my body would forever be a mystery to me? But, this time, I don't have to hide or deny this emotion. Now, I can take actions on them.
But, before I could make any moves, his lips were already in mine, shaping them softly with his. When I was able to finally gather myself, I threw all those emotions into that kiss. *Even after all this time, I'm still into you.
