Two hours later they all sat inside a small coffee shop that was located in one of the buildings on campus. It was pretty crowded around here, lots of students brought their parents here so it wasn't as chill as Taehyung would have preferred it to.
It was an odd constellation, Jimin and Jungkook sitting on Taehyung's left and right side, everyone quietly staring into space while sipping on their coffee. Mr and Mrs Jeon simply sat there, confused on what was going on between all of them, but not quite sure how to handle those teenagers that seemed all a bit off today.
"So, how's your first weeks been going?", Mr Jeon started a conversation. The man hated silence, he had always been that kind of father to ask the most random questions during family dinners when everyone really didn't want to be there except for him.
None of the boys answered so Mr Jeon focused on Jungkook, knowing he could always depend on his boy. "Have you written some exams already, buddy? How did they go?"
"Just a test in english class", Jungkook hummed, "It's too early for midterms, Dad~"
"So how did that go?"
"Got a B on it", Jungkook shrugged, "Wasn't my best grade but I had other stuff going on."
"Oh really", Mr Jeon nodded, "What stuff?"
All eyes landed on Taehyung because the answer was obvious.
"What", Taehyung blurted out, "Stop looking at me like that", he hummed, sounding stressed. "I haven't been keeping him from studying!"
"No one said that, Tae", Mr Jeon hurried to say, "But if there's one thing that's more important to my son than his grades then that would be you. Actually that's a compliment", he smiled, "So how's things between you two?"
"Can I leave", Jimin asked suddenly, "I know everyone wants Jungkook to be with Taehyung but I like him too and it's hurting that no one ever acknowledges my feelings for him." He crossed his arms, leaning back in his chair while Jungkook's heart sunk a little and their eyes met for a couple of seconds. "I like you too, Jimin", he said and reached for his hand to hold it but Jimin pulled away, "I'll never be him and I know that", Jimin inhaled deeply, "Can I leave?"
"No, this is family time and you belong to our family", Mrs Jeon interrupted. "I think Taehyung has something to say, right?", the woman turned to Taehyung who sat there and felt like crying on the spot. God, what would he give right now to be able to disappear magically.
"Do I?", he asked quietly.
"I think you do", she said sharply.
"I think not", Taehyung snapped. If he would tell Jungkook the truth then when they were on their own, not judged by the whole family and everyone around them in this damn coffee shop.
Maybe it wasn't obvious but a lot of stares were on them, a bunch of girls listening to every word that was said at their table. Jungkook and Taehyung really were a big deal around here.
"Well, you had your chance then", Mrs Jeon shrugged. "Jungkook, I feel like you should know that your beloved Taehyung had been cheating on you before you broke up. I always thought it was you who fucked this up but actually it was our lovely Taehyung who ruined everything. I found a pregnancy test in his rubbish and I know Lia has been sneaking in and out a lot. Thought you should know that."
Jimin remained silent, looking down. He had always tried to tell Jungkook about this but the younger had stopped believing his words after a while so he just gave up on trying, doubting his own eyes.
Jungkook gulped dryly, looking between his mother and Taehyung back and forth, then he held his own hand under the table and inhaled deeply, "Is she pregnant?", he then asked worried, turning to Taehyung.
"No, of course not", Taehyung sighed.
"Okay, I'm glad", Jungkook smiled weakly, "You're too young to be a father."
"I am", the older agreed, a little confused by Jungkook's reaction.
"A child is a lot of work", Jungkook awkwardly said.
"Jungkook", Taehyung cut him off and looked at him full of worry, "Jimin was right with whatever he told you. I've always been a cheater and I guess I'll never change. You have every right to be mad or hate me or-"
"Stop", Jungkook smiled weakly, "We're teenagers", he then said, "And we do mistakes. That's totally fine. It's not like I didn't know.."
"I made it seem as if Jimin was lying", Taehyung hummed, "Which I'm sorry for by the way."
"Tae you're 19, almost twenty years old, I just turned 18 a while ago. We're way too young to always do the right thing." He looked away and avoided to look at anyone at this table.
"You should be mad." Taehyung let out but Jungkook couldn't help it, he couldn't feel any anger inside of him, he was upset, fighting the urge to cry but he wasn't mad.
"I just wish you would have told me the truth", Jungkook whispered, voice breaking a little. "Lying is so much worse than cheating."
"Is it?", Mr and Mrs Jeon asked at the same time, caught in surprise.
"To me it is", Jungkook shrugged, "I mean I kinda cheated too because I never, not once, stopped loving Taehyung yet I slept with Jimin. It's just as wrong as what he did. But at least I never lied about it."
"You weren't with him when you slept with someone else", Mrs Jeon argued, "So that doesn't make you a cheater, Jungkook."
"Well I cheated on my heart", the boy shrugged, "And Mom? I'd really like you to stay out of mine and Taehyung's business. I know you wanted to help but it isn't helping to put Taehyung under pressure. He had been pressured all his life by his own parents, let him live for once. If he breaks my heart with cheating on me, that's a thing between me and him. I'm old enough to handle pain, don't you think?"
"Yeah, I'm sorry", Mrs Jeon went silent, looking a little ashamed.
"Oh dear", Taehyung inhaled deeply, "Can't you just scream at me and tell me I'm the worst person ever?", he begged, feeling so, so bad because Jungkook was handling it all in such a mature way.
"Nah", Jungkook now turned to Taehyung, facing him directly, "This hurts more, doesn't it?", he smiled bitterly and then got up from the table. "I'm gonna go study now, have a good rest of the day."
And with that he walked off, leaving his parents and his two ex boyfriends really, really confused behind.
"Wow", Jimin hummed. "I think I'm even more attracted to him now." He let out a sigh and then facepalmed himself.
"Same", Taehyung whined, ruffling his hair, "God, I'm such an idiot. How could I let him get away-"
"It's because you're stupid", Mrs Jeon rolled her eyes, "Jungkook is the best thing that ever happened to you and you gave him up and for what? For a quick fuck with a girl you don't even like."
"Thanks for saying it again", Taehyung grumbled, "I know that very damn well."
And with that he grabbed his bag and walked off, making his way out of the coffee shop as well.
"Well", Jimin said awkwardly, looking at the adults, "Am I your favorite son now? At least I didn't leave the table just like that-"
Mr and Mrs Jeon laughed out softly, "Sure. Let's go get some ice cream or something."
*
"Jungkook", Taehyung yelled after the boy, trying to catch up with his speed which wasn't as easy as he thought it would be because Jungkook started running the second he realized that Taehyung was following him. "Stop running you idiot", he whined, speeding up as well but Jungkook was a fast boy. He rushed around the corner, ran into their dorm building and only stopped once he reached their room, hopping into his bed with the blanket all above him, hiding himself from Taehyung who arrived not much later.
"Seriously?", he asked a little annoyed, "You let me run all the way after you-"
"You can't see me, I'm hidden", Jungkook whispered from beneath the blanket.
"I can see you", Taehyung hummed, sitting down besides Jungkook. "We need to talk."
"Oh, do we?", he asked, "To who do you want to talk because Jungkook isn't here."
"I'll just talk to the guy under this blanket if that's okay with you", Taehyung let out a sigh. Jungkook pulled the blanket down a little, glancing at the older who sat there, looking more worried than ever. "It's okay", Jungkook nodded, "He will tell Jungkook all about it later."
"Fine, tell him I love him and I'm sorry for everything. He's got every right to hate me and be mad and-"
"Well duh, he is mad", Jungkook replied, "He hates liars and he hates cheating."
"I thought it's fine because we are teenagers that do mistakes-", Taehyung said in a small voice, "Did you change your mind?"
"No", Jungkook grumbled, "I just don't want my parents to hate my future husband so I tried to stay calm about this in front of them."
"Oh-"
"Yeah", Jungkook sighed, "How dare you fuck a girl when you could have fucked me? I'm way better to fuck don't you think?"
"I didn't know that back then", Taehyung argued, "I'm sorry."
"You better be really sorry and suck my dick all night", Jungkook rolled his eyes, "Why would you lie to me about this?"
"Because I didn't want to lose you-"
"But you already lost me", Jungkook said, "Cheating isn't okay Tae. It means in that one moment you chose someone else over me and that hurts. If I'm not enough for you, just tell me, break up and get with someone else then, don't cheat."
"You are enough."
"Doesn't look like it", Jungkook snapped, "It's always Lia."
"Look, I'm scared of all this, Koo. I'm scared of how much I love you, you made me come out, you made me want to be good. It all got to my head and thinking I could lose you one day freaked me out so I tried to make it hurt less once that day comes-"
"With cheating?", Jungkook laughed out, "How does that make sense Taehyung?"
"Right, it doesn't", he admitted, "It's just that I know you deserve better so I better lose you now than in ten years when it will kill me to let go of you."
"That's such a bad explanation", Jungkook rubbed his forehead, shyly grabbing Taehyung's hands to pull him closer, "Come here."
Taehyung slowly crawled under the blanket, wrapped his arms around the smaller boy and pulled him as close as humanly possible. "I know, that's why I tried to avoid this explanation. There is no way to justify my behavior."
"Do you want an open relationship?", Jungkook asked as he laid his head down on Taehyung's shoulder, "Maybe it's easier for you if you can still sleep with others-"
"I don't want to be with anyone else but you", Taehyung shook his head, fingers running up and down Jungkook's arm for a while, "I want this relationship to be as close as possible."
"Really?"
"Yes", Taehyung nodded, "But I don't know how not to fuck up."
"Does it help if I promise you that you will never lose me?", Jungkook asked softly, "There is no way I will ever stop loving you, Tae. I had a crush on you since the first day I saw you."
"But I'm a shitty person and you deserve better."
"Dude, I fucked your brother", Jungkook said bitterly, "If that doesn't make me as shitty as you are then I don't know what would-"
"Well", Taehyung inhaled deeply, "That's because I fucked my Ex."
"We need to stop hurting each other", Jungkook mumbled, thinking of ways to solve their problems, "Maybe we should sleep with others for a while, just to see that we are the only ones we really want."
"I don't want you to sleep with anyone else", Taehyung whined, "You're mine."
"But we both need to learn to appreciate the other enough to not sleep with someone else just because we can", Jungkook hummed, "Let's try it for a while, can we? Just fuck whoever you want but at night come back to our room and cuddle me all night. If it works out, we'll get back together. If any of us realizes that it's better with others, we will just end this thing we have."
"But-"
"No buts, Tae. I need to be sure you want me and only me. Right now I can't convince myself of that", he shrugged, "I need this. I need to see you with others without believing a lie. I need to talk in all honesty with you for a while and see where it takes us. You and me, we are way too toxic at the moment to be in a healthy relationship."
"You're right."
"I love you Tae", Jungkook said and pressed a small kiss on the older's lips, "But love isn't always enough. Commitment is needed as well and that's something we both lack."
"Let's learn it together then?", Taehyung asked slowly, "Lia said that you might have not been the one for me..", he then added, "But I'm sure you are. It will always be you."
"I'm glad", Jungkook smiled, "And you will always be the one for me."
"Good", Taehyung smiled, "We're still young, we can learn how to be better."
"And we will", Jungkook grinned, "But let's agree on one thing-"
"No Lia and no Jimin", Taehyung ended Jungkook's sentence.
"Yes. They're no good for us."
"Agreed."
