"I have questions," she said, for some reason not worried at all. She knew that Bangtan should kill her, but she didn't feel scared about him. There was a sense of familiarity as she stared up at the man before her, who let out a breathy laugh.
"I have answers." He got closer, but not too close, analyzing her movements and trying to gauge how she was feeling. If his theory was right, she had no clue who he was and he didn't want to do anything to alarm her.
"I remember your face but... I can't remember your name," she said.
He stepped forward and held out his hand, chuckling a bit at the idea of him introducing himself to her again, "Yoongi."
She chuckled a little with him and grasped his hand. This was the man who had promised her that no one would ever hurt her in their house, and from what she could remember that was true... until she left. Even though she couldn't remember his name, she knew he was a person that she could trust, a person who had an important role in his team.
"You're the leader of Bangtan aren't you?" She furrowed her brows as she started to remember his role, his title. She pulled her hand away from him as he nodded. "I should kill you, ya know. Would make my boss really happy," she smirked.
Yoongi could already tell that Charlie was comfortable with this encounter, relief coursing through him as he felt some of the tension fall from his shoulders. He also caught the disdain in her words when she mentioned her boss, a part of him worrying about what she'd gone through in her time with Ganghan.
"I'm not here to hurt you Charlie," he spoke softly. He reached behind him and Charlie immediately tensed and was ready to either run or fight. She watched intently as Yoongi pulled out the gun from his belt and held it in the air before unloading it and setting it on the ground along with the magazine, separate from each other.
Her mind flooded with the possible scenarios that laid before her. She could easily pull out the concealed weapon from her own belt and kill the leader of her supposed rival... or, she could hear him out and see what he had to say.
Her eyes were still trained on him as he sat down on the nearby bench.
"You said you had questions," he said.
Charlie's head was spinning with where to start. This was her moment to finally make sense of all the jumbled memories that had been swirling through her mind and were scrawled out in the notebook in her hands.
She took a deep breath as her eyes flickered to the notebook. Before she could ask him about the content written in her notebook, there was one question burning at the front of her mind. "What happened?" she inquired. "How did I end up with them?"
Her eyes met his again, observing how he tensed slightly at her question. She wanted to know why she left and how she ended up with Ganghan. She couldn't recall any hatred or disputes through the memories she had, so why did she leave?
"You were out on a mission, following a lead on this guy we believed to be in charge of a huge trafficking ring. You were feeling a bit nervous but were determined to get the guy... then things went south fast and by the time we got to the room, you were gone." Yoongi could feel the guilt crawling back, gnawing at the pit of his stomach as he let out a heavy sigh while his gaze dropped from Charlie's.
Charlie processed the information, her hand going up to her ear as she began playing with her earring while trying to recall the memory. She cleared her throat before opening up the notebook, hoping to ask him a few questions about some of the things she could recall.
"I've been writing everything down to try and piece it all together. I can't remember anything before Ganghan, so whenever I got flashbacks I wrote them down so I could figure out who I was before all this." Charlie flipped through the pages, tracing the letters as she read through the words. "Who's the boy with blue hair?"
Yoongi lifted his head before a small smile appeared on his lips. "Taehyung," he replied, "although his hair is darker now after Jimin kept teasing him. He's our tech expert."
Charlie nodded as she remembered finding him in the room upstairs with the monitors when Ganghan attacked. "And the one who taught me how to tend to wounds?"
"That's Jin, our medic. He has other roles in our group, but that's one of his main roles," Yoongi answered. "What else you got?"
She glanced back down at the pages again. "Ummm, me at a club with the pretty boy who has silver hair?"
Yoongi chuckled at the description. "That would be Jimin, that was probably one of the earlier missions the two of you went on. He was the one who taught you how to fight."
"And the orange haired boy?" Charlie left out the content of that memory, deciding that it was probably best to keep some things to herself as she awaited his answer.
"Hoseok, one of our best shots. He was reluctant to have you join, but the two of you have bonded quite well the past few years."
"I also wrote down something about a woman who was teaching me how to dance, was she another member?"
A small frown settled on Yoongi's lips as he shook his head. "No, but she was a part of the family. She helped run the gentleman's club and was working with you for an undercover mission," he replied.
Charlie carefully observed his features, noticing the use of past tense as he spoke about her. "I take it that something happened to her," she noted.
"Ganghan fucking happened," he replied. Yoongi didn't want to go into the details of the incident since he didn't want Charlie to have to relive through that, not when her memories were still fragile and unclear. He knew it was tough for both her and Jimin to have been the ones there to witness it all go down and he wasn't about to go reopening old wounds.
"I'm sorry," she whispered. She cleared her throat, feeling this heavy weight on her chest as she continued to glance at her notes and process what she's learned so far. "Was I the only girl in a house full of men then?"
Yoongi chuckled and nodded.
"Am I with any of them?" she asked nervously.
"Not that I know of," Yoongi responded, but if he were being honest, Jungkook's name came to the forefront of his mind.
Charlie nodded in response, glancing back at her notes. She was staring at the last few entries, focused on the name she had written down after her heated encounter with him.
"And Jungkook," she started, voice soft as she paused and tried to gather her thoughts. She saw that the word "friend" was written next to his name along with a question mark. "What is he to me?"
Yoongi could tell that there was a shift in her tone as she uttered out her best friend's name. "I think you already know the answer to that," he replied, his eyes softening as he looked up at her.
A comfortable silence settled between the two as she closed her notebook. Other faint memories started coming through as she closed her eyes and took in a deep breath.
"So what now?" she asked.
"I think that's up to you," he said with a sigh. "We have been working our asses off to get you back, but we can see that it's more complicated than we thought. For starters, you don't remember us, and who's to say you won't still try to fight us?"
She had gone to their home and attacked them, so she understood his apprehension. "I just want to remember and... I seem to feel more at peace whenever I am around you guys. It doesn't make sense, but I can't ignore how I feel."
He listened, wanting so badly to just take her back to their hideout, take her home, but he knew the risks and wanted all this to be on her terms.
He still had so many unanswered questions himself: Why Charlie? Why go through all this trouble for one member of Bangtan? And then it started to hit him. Charlie was someone who kept them all together, reminded them why they did what they did and kept them sane. Ever since she was taken, they had slowly been crumbling.
"Uhhh...you still there?" she asked as she noticed how much he was spacing out.
"Sorry," he responded with a shake of his head. "Did you say something?"
"I wanted your advice," she replied.
He sighed and turned to fully look at her. "As I said, this needs to be your choice. I can take you back to the guys if you want. Or... I can do the difficult thing and watch you walk back right into the arms of the enemy. I won't make this choice for you Charlie."
"Ok," she sighed, nodding in agreement and took a couple seconds to think before quickly speaking up again. "What do you need?"
"What do you mean?" Yoongi questioned, eyebrows furrowed as he curiously gazed at her.
"Why take down Ganghan?" Charlie asked.
Yoongi scoffed, his features hardening before he spoke. "You saw the auction, you were there. How did you feel about it?"
Her stomach churned as she remembered just sitting there, watching as women were sold to the highest bidder to do who knows what. Her eyes grew cold as she looked at Yoongi. "You were there too and I saw you bidding and even winning. You are part of the problem as well," she replied. Her words hit him in ways that no one else could hurt him, but he knew it was only because she cared and that she didn't fully understand the situation.
"We were trying to save them," he said and then pulled out his phone. He scrolled through some pictures and showed Charlie one of them. It was of one of the girls they had bought at the auction. She was in new clothes, smiling, with an arm around a very tall man and the other around an older woman. "Jin found her mother and brought her home. That's what we do, but our goal is to stop the auctions altogether... We just haven't figured out how yet." He put the phone back in his pocket and rubbed his brow in frustration.
She no longer felt sick, but useless for a second. He could be lying, but she remembered seeing that woman and it had to be the truth. Her gut feeling had to be right about Yoongi and Bangtan.
"Let me get the information then."
His head snapped up as he looked at her, slightly confused. "What?"
"I'll see what I can find and then... get me out of there. Even if I don't remember anything more, I know that I want no part in that." Yoongi nodded and she instantly felt better. "I can meet you or-"
"I will get you out," he cut her off. "Let us figure out a way in and make it look like a rescue mission rather than you just leaving. I don't want them coming after you and realizing you got your memories back."
She nodded in agreement.
"I can put together a team in a week. Is that enough time for you?" he asked.
Another nod...and then silence.
"Charlie?"
"Yeah?"
"Everything will be okay. The boys have missed you, a lot. Just....please be careful. I can't lose you again," Yoongi uttered.
Her heart warmed and she felt conflicted. Ganghan was supposedly her home and yet this moment felt more real than any she had in that other place. She chuckled and tried to hide the smile that crept up on her. "I'm excited to meet them... again." They both laughed and Charlie then stood up. "I need to get back or else they will ask questions. One week and I will expect a kidnapping."
"Sounds good Blade." He had hoped to get a reaction from her and he did. He noticed that she recognized her code name as she smiled and then walked away from him. It was painful but it was for the best, so they could keep her safe and maybe even take down Ganghan once and for all.
Yoongi heavily sighed as his head fell back, staring at the night sky. I just hope this fucking works. He shoved his hands into his sweatshirt before trudging back to the location of their new hideout. After Ganghan compromised their last location, he had to relocate his team to ensure their safety and avoid another attack.
Yoongi finally arrived after his late night walk, the house silent and in complete darkness as he entered quietly. His conversation with Charlie had him reliving old memories and his guilt only got worse as he recalled the night that Ganghan took her. Maybe I shouldn't have let her go?
