23 - Too Close To Home
After Jin had reassured him several times that Taehyung was going to be okay, Yoongi finally decided to head back to his office. He knew that Namjoon would be there and he didn't want to keep him waiting. Opening the door to his office, he saw the blonde haired man hunched over in one the chairs with a drink in his hand.
Namjoon didn't bother to look up at Yoongi, but instead raised his head to take a drink of the amber liquid. Yoongi went over to his decatur and poured himself a drink as well, joining his friend by grabbing the seat next to him.
"Why is it that every time I'm actually in the field, shit goes wrong?" Namjoon asked, keeping his gaze on the dark colored carpet of the room.
"Joon, you know that's not the case," Yoongi argued, trying his best to comfort his friend as he leaned forward towards him, trying to get Namjoon to look into his eyes.
"It's just frustrating," Namjoon admitted, downing the rest of his drink before getting up to refill it, not even bothering to sit back down as he downed the drink.
"Do you remember that assignment we had in Taihai?" Yoongi asked. He looked at Namjoon, who couldn't help but smile, nodding his head in response. "We knew we weren't going to get out without a fight. You were quick on your feet, gaining an advantage by taking out a guy while we had them stalled," Yoongi said. He remembered that day so clearly. They were only about 15 when Yoongi's father had sent them out on their own to execute a dangerous mission on enemy territory. Both of the boys were already beaten to hell when they were trying to get out of that damned warehouse that they were dropped off at. Namjoon had somehow managed to get the assholes that had them cornered to stop momentarily, sweet talking them into making a deal so he could buy them some time. As he was talking, he had pulled out a pen from his own pocket and uncapped it before throwing it into one of the guy's throats, bringing the number three down to two in a matter of seconds. Yoongi was quick to react, taking advantage of the stunned reaction of the other two before shooting both of them with timed precision.
"You are quick on your feet, just like you were today. You managed to get out of the meeting and got the car so that we could get Taehyung home safely," he stated. Yoongi's eyes met with Namjoon's as he gave his friend a small smile.
"I'm glad he's ok," Namjoon mumbled, watching as Yoongi's eyes glanced to the side. They both knew the game they played and knew that people would get hurt, but that didn't mean that it didn't affect them when it happened. "You weren't kidding when you said you saw a drive in her," he continued.
Yoongi recalled the conversation the two had when Charlie and Jungkook had first arrived at Bangtan. Yoongi was extremely hesitant in taking them in while Namjoon figured they could at least train the hell out of them and add them to some low level gang members... but, as training ensued, it was Yoongi who actually suggested they stay in their house and become members of their family.
"I'll be honest with you, I thought she would have reacted differently tonight," Yoongi mumbled. He finished his drink before holding up the glass for Namjoon to refill.
"How so?" Namjoon asked as he poured another shot for the both of them. Yoongi let out a slight chuckle.
"I would have thought she would've reacted like a typical woman, ya know? Start crying and freaking out," Yoongi shared, noticing the confused look on Namjoon's face. "I know," he chuckled. "I should've known that that wouldn't be the case... especially not with how tough all the women are at the club. You know, sometimes they scare me more than Ganghan," he admitted. The two friends laughed together and enjoyed the brief silence that followed.
Yoongi knew that all the women he had worked with were tough. Even though he worried about Charlie often, he would constantly need to remind himself that she could handle a hell of a lot more than he gave her credit for.
"You should go talk to her," Namjoon suggested. He walked back to the empty chair and sat down, patting Yoongi's shoulder. The leader looked over at him, knowing that he was right. "She may not act like it all the time, but she does respect you. Hearing some encouraging words from her boss would really help her right now."
"You're probably right, as always," Yoongi muttered. He watched as Namjoon held out his glass, causing Yoongi to tap his own against it before they both finished off their drinks. "We have a lot of work to do, so go get some rest Joon."
Namjoon nodded before patting Yoongi's knee, taking his glass and heading out of the office. Yoongi took a deep breath and followed, heading towards Charlie's room. He wasn't sure if she would actually be there, but he figured her room would be the best place to start. When he knocked, he heard someone calling out on the other side as the door opened. Charlie stood there, hair slightly damp and looking much more comfortable than she was earlier today.
"Hi," Yoongi said.
"Umm hi," Charlie nervously replied. "Did you want to come in?" He could hear the hesitation in her voice and he didn't blame her. The last time they had a real conversation was during their heated, and very loud argument.
"No need. I uhh, I just wanted to tell you... what you did tonight..." He paused trying to find the right words. "I'm... I'm proud of you Charlie." He watched as a pleased smile appeared on her face. "You were calm, and you focused on how to get Taehyung and yourself out of there safely. You did good, kid." Yoongi finally let himself smile as Charlie's widened at the compliment.
"Thanks Yoongi," she said shyly.
"Well, I will let you go to sleep, we have a lot to talk about in the morning," he said. Yoongi walked away, happy that the awkward conversation was over. Namjoon always tried to push him to share his thoughts with the other members, let them know they were valued in order to build up their bond and keep their team strong. Yoongi credited Namjoon for how close all the members truly were because if it wasn't for him, he doesn't know if Bangtan would've become the empire that it was today.
Charlie stood in the doorway, her smiling growing even bigger as Yoongi walked away. Hearing those words from him was exactly what she needed right now. Jungkook had reassured her so many times that what happened was not her fault, but hearing directly from Yoongi that he was proud of her... that was on a completely different level. She closed her door and climbed in her bed, letting the events from today fade away.

1 week later
"How long do I have to just sit around?" Taehyung whined as Charlie placed a bowl full of popcorn down on the coffee table and sat down next to him.
"Jin's doing another check-up again today to make sure you're cleared for work, so until then, you're stuck with us and we're watching movies," Charlie told him while Hoseok chuckled from the other side of Taehyung.
Taehyung pouted, folding his arms before huffing again, glaring at the screen in front of him. The past week had been hell since he hated not being able to do anything. He felt fine, so he didn't understand why they wouldn't just allow him to do his fucking job already.
Not but ten minutes into the movie, they were interrupted by Jimin and Jungkook walking into the living room, joining movie night as they took their place on one of the empty couches.
Charlie kept looking over at Jungkook, checking to see if he was doing ok. The last couple of days he had been a little more reserved than usual. She didn't want to make a big deal out of it, so she never talked to him about it, but that didn't stop her from worrying.
Her mind wandered back to the day Taehyung was shot, and how Jungkook was there by her side nearly the rest of the night. Seeing his face always brought her comfort and she wondered why. Seeing him keep to himself, she had to fight with her inner voice to not walk over to him and pull him to her, finally giving him the comfort that he deserved.
Almost everyone jumped when someone started banging on the door and shouting. Hoseok was quick to his feet and swung the door open.
"Holy shit what happened?" he asked, and everyone was on their feet looking to the door as they watched a bloody and beaten Jade being practically carried inside by Cherry. However, as soon as they were inside, Hoseok scooped up Jade and started carrying her to the basement to Jin's medical room while everyone followed.
"Cherry what happened?" Charlie asked as they made their way to the medical room.
"Jade and Gigi were walking home together when a couple guys attacked them. Jade found her way back to the club and couldn't stop crying. Raven told me to bring her straight here while she holds down the club," Cherry said, trying to calm her shaking voice.
"Where's Gigi?" Jungkook asked.
Cherry looked over at him and then Jade, who Hoseok was now placing on the stretcher as Charlie rushed around the room, gathering damp cloths and pain killers.
"They took her," Jade choked out.
Jungkook looked from Jade to Charlie before turning to Jimin, whose face was starting to turn bright red. The rest of the members were quick to assume what had happened when Taehyung brought them downstairs. Yoongi walked over to Cherry, who informed him of everything that had happened.
"Jimin and Namjoon, I need you two over at the club, make sure everyone is ok there," Yoongi ordered while the two nodded before running out of the room.
"If they are attacking one business, we need to make sure all our assets are protected," Yoongi muttered, looking over to Hoseok. He nodded in understanding before turning to Jin, who was quickly trying to evaluate Jade. Charlie noticed what Yoongi was asking and nudged Jin.
"I can take care of her, go," Charlie said as Jin nodded, following Hoseok upstairs.
"Taehyung, we need to see those new cameras you installed," Yoongi requested. He led the way back upstairs as Taehyung followed, leaving behind Charlie, Jade, Cherry, and a very confused Jungkook.
Charlie was carefully cleaning Jade's face, wiping away the blood so that she could better see what damage was done underneath.
"Is there anything I can help with?" Jungkook asked, walking over to Charlie. She looked from him and then back to Jade.
"Grab me the bandages from the cabinet will ya?" Charlie pointed to a cabinet behind her as she carefully held Jade's face. Jungkook did as he was asked and brought them back, setting them down on a nearby table.
"What else hurts Jade?" Charlie asked her. Jade pointed to several spots on her upper body, earning a sigh from Charlie. She was worried there would be internal damage and now she would need to get a closer look.
"Sorry Jungkook, but I'm going to have to ask you to leave. I need to fully examine her," Charlie said with a sad smile. Jungkook nodded his head and started towards the door.
"You don't want me to give the boy a free show?" Jade asked, chuckling through the pain.
"It's ok Jade," Jungkook replied, giving her a small smile before walking upstairs, letting his body fall into the couch that he thought he would be on all night.
Thoughts started to consume him as he didn't know what to do or how to help. Jade was beat up pretty bad and Gigi was gone, taken. He didn't have any romantic feelings for Gigi, but he did feel a knot in his stomach at the thought of what might be happening to her. He wondered if she was ok, hoping that she was still alive. The house was silent and he hated it. Everyone was doing something, everyone had a job, except him. He felt useless.

Taehyung had been at it for hours now, Yoongi by his side providing him with a second set of eyes. After inspecting the footage from their new security cameras, Taehyung was unable to find a lead. The men who attacked the girls made sure to have everything covered: they wore dark masks and drove an unmarked van that he wouldn't even be able to trace to an owner. He decided to look into the hotel, hoping that now since they had access to the establishment, he would be able to gain some useful intel... but nothing.
Taehyung let out another frustrated growl. After being out for the whole week, he had hoped that now that he was able to access everything, it would be easier, but it wasn't. He shoved the keyboard away before getting up, pacing around the room as he tried not to get too stressed.
Yoongi glanced at him, standing up to go reassure him when he heard a notification from the screen. Both men turned to it to see that something new had been added to the hotel's schedule. Taehyung let out a sigh before trudging back over to his desk, freezing as he pulled up the new notification that stated a conference room had been booked by Tony Gates.
"Shit, it's them!" Taehyung exclaimed, glancing at the date and time, noticing the meeting was set for this evening at eight.
"A conference room," Yoongi mumbled, glancing at the information. "Should we come up with a plan to send someone in?" he asked.
Taehyung shook his head, a huge smile on his face. "Since I'm in their system, I can easily tap into the room and access the phone. We'll be able to hear everything," he said, feeling confident that at least there was something that he could contribute to the team after being out for the whole week. Finally, we're getting somewhere.
Neither of them said a word to the rest of the members, not wanting to give away any information or false hope until they learned more about their meeting. It could be a false lead for all they knew, but Taehyung had a feeling that it was going to give them many of the answers they would need.
After dinner, Yoongi had pulled Namjoon aside and told him about the plan.
Namjoon was currently standing in the corner of the room, a coffee cup in hand while Yoongi occupied the seat next to Taehyung, listening intently as Taehyung had already tapped into the room phone, immediately turning on the speaker as they heard two voices enter the room a few minutes before 8:00.
"What did Casper say when you spoke to him?" a gruff voice asked. Yoongi immediately whipped his head towards Namjoon, both men straightening up as they recognized the name.
"Shit," Yoongi muttered, moving closer to the monitor. "Turn it up," he commanded Taehyung, who glanced at him before turning up the audio as loud as he could.
"Blade really fucked up," the other man commented, letting out an amused chuckle while the first man let out a scoff.
"Well you better hope you do a better job Silas, or else you're going to join him," the other teased, earning a growl from the man.
"Fuck you Viper," he grumbled. "Blade was a fucking idiot. I don't plan on making the same mistake that he did," he added.
Before they could continue their bickering, the phone in the room rang, causing them to go silent as they answered the call, sitting at the conference table.
"Gentlemen," a third voice sounded in the room, causing Namjoon to now take a step closer as he listened in carefully. It seemed that the men from the Bangtan house were holding their breath as they waited for someone to speak, feeling the adrenaline coursing through them at the thought of finally catching the bastards behind Ganghan's trafficking ring.
"Silas, how did your task go?" the third man asked, causing Yoongi to glance back at Namjoon, eyebrows furrowed as he tried to make sense of his words. He had an assumption as to what he was referring to, but he couldn't jump to conclusions just yet.
"We were able to get one of the girls. The other one put up quite a fight, but hopefully it sent Bangtan a message," Silas said. Yoongi's jaw clenched while Namjoon's fists tightened, pissed off at the fact that someone was coming after their family. Taehyung tried to keep his breathing steady and keep his anger at bay so that he could focus on their conversation.
"And what about the tattooed girl? Any lead on her?" the man inquired, causing all three members of Bangtan to tense up at the thought of anything happening to Charlie.
"Not yet Casper, I'm still working on it," Silas confidently stated while Viper let out a scoff, amused by his overly-confident demeanor.
"Just make sure to get the girl. I want you to go back to the club, do what you need to do in order to gain their attention. We have to keep hitting them where it hurts. There's a reason why they upped their security at that fucking club, clearly it means something to them," Casper said.
"Over my fucking dead body," Yoongi growled, gripping the arms of the chair while the other two men were also furious about the matter.
"Viper, I want you to just make sure to take care of business on our end, see if you can get some more girls for our new clients. Silas, I want you to focus on Bangtan. Make sure to find that girl," Casper emphasized before hanging up the call.
Viper shook his head before staring up at the man across from him. "I can't believe Casper trusted you with handling Bangtan. Make sure not to fuck up Silas," he said, chuckling in amusement before walking out of the room, leaving Silas alone with his thoughts as he let out a groan, trying to figure out how the hell he was supposed to get into that damn club.

"Hey Char," Jungkook answered the phone in a very monotone voice.
"Where the hell are you?" Jungkook could hear how annoyed she was.
"I went out," he replied, trying to keep the conversation short.
"Clearly, but where to?" she asked. Jungkook took a sip of his drink, wondering if he should even tell her. "Kook, please," she pleaded. And just like that, she had him in the palm of her hand. Charlie could get Jungkook to do anything when she used that tone with him.
"At the bar around the corner from Cliff Hangers," he mumbled, feeling defeated.
"Thank you, I will be there in five!" she told him. Charlie ended the call and Jungkook placed his phone on the bar, happy that he would see her... but also nervous about the upcoming conversation that she was probably going to force out of him.
True to her word, Charlie walked into the bar five minutes later, scanning the room before finding Jungkook hunched over the bar, staring at the glass in front of him. She walked over to him, sitting down on the empty stool.
"Hey," she said, keeping her body turned toward him.
"Hi," Jungkook responded, not even bothering to look up.
"You want to tell me why you are here alone?" Charlie asked.
"I wanted a drink," he said nonchalantly.
"We have alcohol at the house and you can drink for free at Cliff Hangers. So, I will ask again. Why are you here alone?" Charlie leaned in towards her friend, trying to get him to look at her.
"I have a lot on my mind," he said quietly.
"I know," she replied. Jungkook lifted his head and finally looked at her, his brows furrowed. "You have been pretty quiet lately, don't think I haven't noticed. I just didn't know how to approach you about it," she admitted.
"Everyone has a job, a role to play... and oftentimes, its multiple roles, but me? I feel like I have nothing to offer. I feel so useless," he admitted. Jungkook finished his drink and set it on the bar, gesturing to the bartender for another.
"You know that's not true Kook," Charlie said.
"How is it not?! All I do is look through a scope Char, anyone could do that!" Jungkook's voice grew louder, catching Charlie off guard. She placed a hand on his arm and took a deep breath.
"You may think that, but in fact you are the only one who can look through that scope and see what you do." Jungkook refused to meet her eyes once more, not believing her words. "You know what Jimin and I need before we even ask. You know which guys to take out, and which ones to leave to us. We need you," she told him.
"Thanks," he mumbled.
"So, what else is bothering you?" Jungkook laughed a little at her question. She knows me too well.
"For the first time in a long ass time, I was scared... and I'm not sure if that feeling has gone away yet. When we all heard the gunshot through the speaker, the silence was excruciating. No one knew who was shot, if anyone, or how bad. I just kept thinking to myself: What if Charlie was hit? What if she's laying on the floor, bleeding out, and here I am, not watching over her. I was terrified, Char," he confessed.
Jungkook finally looked at his best friend and Charlie could see the tears that were starting to form in his eyes. "Seeing you covered in Taehyung's blood had me actually wonder what I would do if you got hurt. I don't know what I would do without you," he said, his voice a hushed whisper as he spoke.
Charlie felt her chest tighten at Jungkook's words as she too had wondered about that question often. Yes, she was terrified of losing Taehyung that night. It got her thinking about all the other members and how she would've felt losing any of them, but losing Jungkook? Her best friend for years? She didn't want to think about it and would force herself to push the thoughts away.
Charlie moved her hand from Jungkook's arm to his hand, interlacing her fingers with his. Jungkook tried not to think about the way that his heart hammered against his chest from this simple little gesture, glancing up at his best friend as he noticed how she had a small smile on her face.
Charlie felt her face slightly flush when he looked up at her and hoped that he didn't notice. She lightly squeezed his hand, trying to tame her nerves and focus on him instead of the way her heart was racing at the moment.
"I can't promise that I won't get hurt, and you can't either. We knew what we were getting into when we signed up for this life, but I can promise you that I will always have your back if you've got mine," she uttered, feeling her smile widen as he grinned at her.
Damn, what are you doing to me?

Yoongi had called everyone into the living room around midnight, insisting that they couldn't wait until the morning to go over some new information. He glanced around the room, noticing how utterly exhausted his team looked as some of the members sleepily sat on the couches, waiting to hear what intel they'd gained.
"I first want to start off by saying thank you," he sincerely stated. "I know this is grueling work, and it's only going to get harder from here on out the closer we get to taking down Ganghan and their trafficking ring. We gained some intel tonight and plan to use it to our advantage. It looks like Casper and his team are planning to take another hit on Cliff Hangers," he shared, causing everyone to sit up a bit as they stared at him, now more alert with the new information.
"We should up the security again," Jimin muttered, letting out a heavy sigh as he rubbed his eyes, tired of his business being a constant target.
"We plan on doing just that, but there's also one more thing," Yoongi said, exchanging a quick glance with Namjoon, who cleared his throat before standing up next to the leader.
"We need one of the dancers to help us lure out one of these guys," Namjoon added. "We figured that the dancers probably have the best visual of the club and would be able to spot anyone suspicious or out of the ordinary quicker than the other girls."
Jimin immediately shook his head while Charlie's eyes widened, staring at Namjoon and Yoongi.
"You can't just have one of the girls do that, that's insane. Why don't you just send one of us in to keep an eye out for them? Hell, I'll volunteer to do it," she said, causing both of them to turn to her.
"No," Yoongi firmly stated. "Your life will be on the line if we put you in there, you're their main target," he informed her, causing everyone to stiffen before glancing over at the young woman. "Besides, we can't really send you into the club, it'll be too suspicious since you don't see women there now, do you? It's too dangerous."
Charlie seemed to think about this for a moment before speaking up again. "Not unless I'm an employee there," she suggested, eyes locked with Yoongi's. "If he's after me, why not set up the bait for it?"
Namjoon shook his head, disagreeing with her request. "I get that you want to help Charlie, and you've got the right intentions in mind, but we can't do that," he reasoned.
"So you're going to risk the lives of the other girls in order to get this bastard?" she asked, her voice already tense as she tried not to show her frustration and anger. "We've got one girl who's already been taken and another who's gotten severely hurt, how many more are we going to put on the line?" she asked.
The room fell silent as everyone glanced between the three of them.
Jimin couldn't help the small smile that formed as he glanced at Charlie. "So does this mean you're finally going to dance?" Jimin asked, the eager tone evident in his voice as Yoongi glared at the younger man.
"No, that's not happening. It's too risky and you wouldn't be able to protect yourself," the leader argued while Charlie shook her head.
"This wouldn't be the first time I've done something dangerous," she argued, trying not to raise her voice since she didn't want to get into another fight with Yoongi. "Look, everyone knows I'm good at hand-to-hand combat, I've got this. Why have one of the girls, who is untrained against this sort of thing, risk her life? I've killed before and taken down men twice my size, please, let me do this," she pleaded.
"This is different Charlie! This is the first time you're the actual fucking target! This is not another mission where we're taking out a hit, and after what happened to Taehyung, we can't afford having anything happen to any more of our members. It's too dangerous," he reiterated, but clearly the words had no effect on her as her determination remained intact.
Yoongi let out a heavy sigh, knowing very well that this was a losing argument as Charlie stood up, taking a step closer to him. "Jungkook could be there as well, just to make sure nothing happens," she insisted, glancing over at her best friend with a small smile on her lips. "We could use all the eyes we could get, right?" she asked, knowing that Jimin was probably going to be there as well to make sure things would run smoothly.
Yoongi considered her words before letting out a deep sigh. He reluctantly gave in, feeling the dread already settling into the pit of his stomach. "Both Jimin and Jungkook will be there to keep their eyes out and make sure you stay safe," he stated while Charlie nodded, content with the agreement.
"Well then, you should come in tomorrow to start practicing Angel," Jimin cooed, causing her to scrunch up her nose.
"Angel?" she repeated while a mischievous smile spread across his lips.
"Well yeah, you're going to need a stage name," he replied, smirking at her as Namjoon smacked the younger man on the head. "Ouch," he grumbled, glaring at the taller man while Charlie snickered.
"You're all dismissed, make sure to get some rest," Yoongi said, watching as they all slowly stood up and started heading upstairs since it was getting late. As everyone cleared out of the room, Namjoon remained next to Yoongi, observing how nervous his friend was about this whole idea.
"Jimin," Yoongi called, causing the young man to turn back and return to the living room.
"Yes boss?" Jimin asked.
"You better make sure to take good fucking care of her. Nothing happens to her, got it?" he said while Jimin nodded, a serious expression on his face as he realized just how much danger Charlie could be in since she was putting herself out on the line.
A/N: They are finally getting more information and hoping to get the 2nd guy of this supposed triade...
