4- The Black T-shirt

Nathan slowly pulled up outside the brightly lit pizza shop. He glanced over at Andy who was already making her way out the car.

"I thought you would have wanted to stay in the car."

"Shut up. Come on, you're letting your wife starve."

They both walked hand in hand into the shop. The man at the till stared at them open mouthed. There was a woman who was cleaning the tables but had now stopped.

"I know you're closing but my wife really wants a pizza." A man came through the door and stopped to stare at them. "Can you make us one last pizza please? I'll pay extra if I have to."

"Please? I've been eating rabbit food for months to get ready for this dress."

The man at the till looked back at the open kitchen where three of the men were smiling. "How about we make you a special pizza on the house in congratulations for your big day?"

"Really, you don't have to-"

"My pleasure. Seriously, take a seat and wait for your order."

After Nathan had given the order, he glanced back at Andy who had slumped down on the chair. He knelt in front of her and started taking of her shoes. She began to protest but he held a hand up, silencing her.

"Pumpkin, I know how you are. Just take them off and relax." He straightened up and gave her a kiss before walking back to the counter. "Can I have a bottle of water please?"

"Sure. Still or sparkling?"

"Still please." Once he had the cold bottle of water in his hands, he walked back to Andy. "Here you go baby. You've barely drank any water today." She smiled at him before pulling his arm so she could kiss him. "I love you."

"I love you too. Thank you for always looking out for me." He smiled at her before pecking her lips and going back to the counter.

"Love at first sight?"

Nathan chuckled as he glanced at Andy. She was rubbing her feet now, focussing on the imprints of the lacy shoes. "Not really. I accidentally embarrassed her in front of everyone and after that it took forever to ask her out on a date."

"Ah, my cousin Antonio was like that. Except he was the one that got embarrassed," the man said with a laugh. "Well it all paid off. Here you are on your wedding day, making your wife very happy."

"Least I can do man. She has made me the happiest man on earth. Not only me but my men and women in the firehouse." the man glanced up.

"Firefighter?"

"Yeah."

"I was one for five years!" The man chuckled as he glanced at Nathan. "It was a big fire that sent me away. I lost my leg and couldn't return to work."

"Well I must say it's an honour to meet you. And thank you for your service man." Nathan stuck a hand out and the man shook it with a smile. "Thank you."

"It was an honour to serve while I could. And I must say, the men and women who support us are something special. To be there when we have a rough call and be there to just support us."

Nathan glanced over at Andy again. "I really don't know how I would be without her." He sighed as he straightened up. His eyes went down to the counter where the man had placed a silver ring and smiled. "Married?"

"Ah yes! This is actually her family's shop. I come by and work weekends to help them out. The restaurant down the street is hers too. I cook there when they need help too."

"You're a cook?" Andy said as she stood up. The man nodded with a laugh. "Italian I'm guessing?" He nodded again as he put the toppings on the pizza. "I cook too. But it's a cafe. I was wondering if you could talk me through a recipe."

As the pizza cooked, Andy and the man talked about Italian food and shared tips. Nathan just stood silently, watching Andy write down on a notepad. He sighed as he stepped behind her. She stopped writing and lifted her arms to allow him to wrap his arms around her.

"I love you," he whispered into her ear.

Andy rolled her eyes as the man in front of her chuckled. "Hang on a minute. He's just being a bit needy."

"I am not!"

"Listen Nathe, I am talking to this kind man who is telling me how to perfect a recipe I have been struggling with. Be a good man and stay silent for two more minutes." Andy began writing again as Nathan mimicked her silently. "And don't sulk."

"I can write for you if you want?"

"Please?" The man turned the notebook around and began listing the ingredients down. Andy tilt her head back with a smile. "Hey baby."

Nathan chuckled before pecking her lips. "Hey beautiful." He kissed the top of her head before she straightened up. "You look tired pumpkin. How about when we go home, we run a bath for you and you eat the pizza with a nice glass of wine?"

"Ah you're always spoiling me Nathe."

* * *

Nathan looked up from the TV when he heard the door open. Andy's hair was clipped up with a towel wrapped around her body. Nathan smiled as he stood up, walking over to her.

"Baby...do me a favour and wear my t-shirt." Andy slipped on her underwear. She raised an eyebrow and he looked back at her.

"Why? I mean I was going to but why you insisting?"

"Because you look so damn sexy in it." He reached for the folded black t-shirt, running his thumb over the cotton material. "This is the one you wore on our first date."

Andy stepped towards him, smiling. "And you kept it all this time?"

"Yeah. It wasn't intentional for the first year but I found it after that and just kept it safe. I knew it was this one because I remember how you cut off the tag because it kept itching you."

Andy slowly reached forward and took hold of the soft cotton. Her mind went back to the night she had spent with Nathan just watching movie after movie. He had his arm around her and his head on top of hers. She remembered how he would lean down and brush her hair away before kissing the top of her head. When the night had come to an end, he simply carried her upstairs and slept on the floor beside her.

She slipped the t-shirt on slowly, savouring the feeling of the material running down her back. Nathan took a step back and whistled. "There's my sexy little wife. Now come on, we've got a movie to get through, two bottles of wine and a big warm pizza."

"Nothing else?"

Nathan smiled as he raised a hand to her cheek. "Nothing else. Unless you want to. But you're tired right now. And you've given this wedding everything so you deserve to rest."

"Don't do that. You worked your ass off too."

Nathan shrugged his shoulders, a small smile on his lips. "I never had a dream wedding, pumpkin. I never once thought I would get married. But you had a dream wedding and I wanted to give you just that because you deserve the best." Andy opened her mouth to say something but nothing came out out. With a chuckle, Nathan pulled her in for a hug. "You make me so happy, De. You deserve the best and all I wanted was for you to be happy on your big day."

"I was," she whispered. "Because I was with you. You make me happy, Nathe." She leaned up to kiss his cheek. "Come on, the pizza is already cold. We don't want the wine to get warm."

Before she could walk away, Nathan pulled her back into his arms. His hand rested on her cheek and his other on her back. Her chest was pressed against his and he could feel her heartbeat quicken as he leaned in closer. As soon as his lips were on hers, she leaned up, running her hands through his hair.

"Hey pumpkin?" he whispered against her lips. She hummed in response, catching her breath. "I love you."

"I love you too."
