We shall overcome
Whether in a hundred years or a day
We shall overcome someday,
These barriers of race
Or the want for the 'perfect face'.
One day an act of kindness
Will not be reasoned with madness.
A time when not being a victim of rape,
Will feel like a right, not privilege.
A tomorrow where period is more than a full stop:
And for marriage, girls won't have to out of school drop.
As we sit in our homes afraid to step into the light,
Let's not forget that there are people who have more than one blight,
For even if they survive the disease without,
Who'll save them from other monsters this pandemic has let out?
I'm not demanding all this be made right today,
But hoping that we shall overcome someday.
