Chapter 6

Third person's pov

As Jungkook completed preparing lunch, a wave of exhaustion crashed over him, forcing him to sink into a chair, his breaths heavy and labored.  Determined to conceal his fatigue, he attempted to steady his breath, only to succumb to a fit of coughing that rattled through his weakened frame.

Cautiously regaining composure, he rose from the chair, sumoning strength, he called out to the others, the weariness apparent in his voice. "Taemin, Hye-joon, Taehyung, lunch is ready."

His call echoed through the house, and within moments, Taemin and Hye-joon appeared in the dining area,

Jungkook gestured towards the dining table. "let's eat."

Taehyung joined them, his eyes narrowing as he observed Jungkook. "You look pale. Are you feeling alright?"

Jungkook forced a reassuring smile. "Just a bit tired. Let's eat."

They all sat down on their chairs.

As Hye-joon took her first bite, her expression twisted in apparent dissatisfaction. "Eomma, this is so bland. Did you even use any seasoning?" she complained, pushing her plate away.

Jungkook, despite his exhaustion, maintained composure. "It's a simple, healthy meal. I didn't want to overload it with alot of seasoning," he replied,

Taehyung added, "It's fine, Hye-joon. Your Eomma put effort into making this meal. Just eat it."

Hye-joon rolled her eyes. "Appreciation for tasteless food? I doubt it."

Jungkook sighed inwardly and looked at Taemin, who had been mostly silent. "Taemin, how does it taste for you?" he asked.

Taemin, preoccupied with his phone, barely glanced up. "It's alright, I guess. Not the best," he mumbled,

Jungkook's patience wore thin. "Well, since you all have such refined taste buds, I will see how you both cook." he said.

Hye-joon and Taemin scoffed.

After 1 hour.........

In the dimly lit room, Jungkook lay on the bed, his body aching with fatigue.  Summoning what little strength remained, he called out to Taemin,

"Taemin, can you message my legs a bit?" He asked in a gentle tone.

Taemin replied with annoyance, "Eomma, I have a lot of homework. I'll do it later."

Left alone in his room, Jungkook sighed,

As the minutes ticked away, Taehyung entered the room, his attention tethered to his phone. Jungkook hesitated before making a similar request. "Tae, can you message my legs?"

Taehyung, responded dismissively, "Why? You didn't even do anything today." He continued scrolling through his phone,

However, the subtle groans escaping Jungkook's lips pierced through Taehyung's indifference. Annoyance lingered in Taehyung's expression,

With reluctant steps, Taehyung approached the bed, his fingers gingerly finding their way to Jungkook's legs.

Jungkook's groans persisted,  Taehyung's annoyance transformed into a reluctant tenderness as he started massaging Jungkook's legs.

"Does it hurt alot?" Taehyung asked, his tone softening.

Jungkook, eyes closed, responded. "Trust me, if they weren't hurting this much I would never bother you."

Taehyung rolled his eyes at the response, " Ungrateful. " he muttered.

At dinner time.......

As the dishes were laid out on the table, it quickly became apparent that this kind of meal is only for people with no taste buds,

The first glimpse of Hye-joon's creation left much to be desired.

Taemin said in a teasing voice. "Noona, are you sure that its edible?"

" Shut up Taemin, it looks good to me, atleast try it you idiot. "

However, Jungkook, took a bite and immediately regretted it. The taste seemed to send shockwaves through his entire being. He theatrically spit it out, garnering the attention of everyone at the table.

"Hye-joon, what is this?" Jungkook exclaimed, "The texture – it's like chewing on rubber bands! Is this your idea of a meal?"

Taehyung, intervened. "Jungkook it's her first try, after all."

But Jungkook continued, "First try or not, Taehyung, this is an assault on my taste buds! And look at this," he continued, pointing dramatically at the various components on his plate. "Do you really think that we can eat it?"

"Is this what we have to look forward to every night?" Jungkook said with a hint of annoyance,"I feel like I've been served a punishment rather than a meal."

Hye-joon then said with anger, "Eomma, your taste buds must be malfunctioning. This dinner is perfectly fine," she insisted.

Jungkook, fired back, "Oh, Hye-joon, my taste buds are functioning just fine. They're sending distress signals after taking a bite of whatever that was."

Hye-joon sighed in frustration.

Jungkook cleared his throat, garnering the attention of the room. "From tomorrow, I'll teach you some basic dishes. We can't survive this kind of food," he said, his tone firm.

Hye-joon, crossed her arms and retorted, "I don't want to learn how to cook."

Jungkook, unfazed by her resistance, raised an eyebrow. "Did I ask if you wanted to or not? I simply said I will, so I will." His words carried an authority that brooked no argument.

Hye-joon, giving a begrudging huff, shot Jungkook an annoyed glance before storming off to her room.

The next day, Jungkook found himself back at the hospital for another checkup. The doctor examined him carefully, and after a series of tests, he shared some positive news.

"It seems the medication is working well," the doctor informed Jungkook, offering a reassuring smile. "Your progress is good."

Jungkook let out a sigh of relief,

"Jungkook, we discussed starting chemotherapy soon. Why the hesitation?" the doctor inquired, concern etched across his face.

Jungkook hesitated for a moment before responding. "Can we delay the chemotherapy sessions for a bit?"

The doctor raised an eyebrow, curious about Jungkook's request. "Why do you want to delay them? It's an important part of the treatment plan."

Jungkook took a deep breath, "The medicines are working fine, and I'm not ready to tell my family about this yet. Can we postpone the chemotherapy for a little while longer?"

The doctor, understanding the emotional weight of Jungkook's request, leaned back and considered the situation.

"I understand that sharing this information with your family is a significant step. However, delaying chemotherapy might impact the overall treatment plan. "

Jungkook nodded and replied, "I just need some more time. Can we hold off on chemotherapy for a few weeks?"

The doctor sighed, "I'll give you a bit more time, Jungkook. But I strongly advise discussing this with your family soon. "

Back at home........

As Jungkook stood before the mirror, the harsh reality of his condition manifested in a handful of hair falling out as he brushed through it. His heart sank

The strands of hair slipped through his fingers, and a mixture of emotions stirred within him – Jungkook couldn't help but feel a pang of sadness,

He took a deep breath, attempting to collect himself. The reflection in the mirror showed not only physical changes but also the emotional weight he carried.

Closing his eyes briefly, Jungkook steadied his emotions. He reminded himself that facing these challenges was an inevitable part of the journey toward recovery.

With a sigh, he continued brushing his hair, the strands falling and scattering on the bathroom floor,

After a long day, as Taehyung, Taemin, and Hye-joon returned home,

That night, as Taehyung, Taemin and Hye-joon were in the living room, Jungkook's determined voice cut through the familial chatter. "Hye-joon, come to the kitchen."

Hye-joon, engrossed in her phone, responded with a dismissive groan. "Eomma, I don't want to."

Jungkook said with a stern loud voice, "Hye-joon, come right now."

With a reluctant sigh, Hye-joon made her way to the kitchen.

"Today," Jungkook said, "I will teach you how to make Jajangmyeon."

Hye-joon, less than thrilled about the impromptu cooking lesson, nodded halfheartedly. Jungkook, setting up the ingredients, began,

"First," he explained, holding up a package of noodles, "these are the noodles. You need to boil them until they're soft but still have a bite to them."

Hye-joon, glancing at her phone intermittently, responded with a nonchalant "Okay."

Undeterred, Jungkook continued, "Now, for the sauce, you'll need black bean paste, minced garlic, and some vegetables. It's important to balance the flavors."

As Jungkook delved into the intricacies of the recipe, Hye-joon's attention waned. Jungkook noticed it.

"Hye-joon, pay attention. Do you know how important is it?"

Hye-joon, rolling her eyes, muttered, "Eomma, it's just noodles."

With patience, Jungkook explained adjusting seasoning, and perfecting the consistency of the sauce to hye-joon.

Hye-joon took a little interest and listened.

Later at night........

In the quiet of the night, Taehyung lay in a deep slumber, blissfully unaware of the world around him. The room was dimly lit, with the sound of Taehyung's snores.

His leg dangled over the edge of the bed, occasionally stirring as he groaned and absentmindedly touched his legs.

Jungkook, despite the persistent ache in his own legs, mustered the strength to get up. He gently lifted Taehyung's leg, placing it back on the bed and ensuring he was covered snugly with the blanket.

As Jungkook settled back into his place, he began massaging Taehyung's legs. The weariness in his own limbs seemed to fade into the background as he messaged Taehyung's legs.

The room held a serene atmosphere, broken only by the soft sounds of Taehyung's loud snores.

Jungkook's mind, however, was not at peace. The question that had been lingering in the recesses of his thoughts surfaced and he looked at Taehyung with a mix of emotions.

"What will you do after me?" he mumbled, the words escaping in a whisper that hung in the air.
