Chapter 19
Third person's pov
As Mr. and Mrs. Jeon exchanged concerned glances with Yoongi and Jimin, the atmosphere in the room remained heavy with tension.
They couldn't understand what could have happened between Jungkook and the others to cause such a rift, especially for Jungkook to lash out even at Taemin and Hye-joon.
Then Yoongi stepped forward, his voice gentle as he addressed Jungkook. "Jungkook, let's have a talk together hmm?" His tone was coaxing,
Jungkook met Yoongi's gaze, his eyes brimming with tears as he shook his head in refusal. "I don't want to talk with him, hyung," he murmured, his voice strained with emotion.
Yoongi's heart ached at the sight of Jungkook's pain, and without hesitation, he enveloped him in a comforting embrace, "It's okay, Jungkook," he murmured, his voice soothing as he rubbed Jungkook's back in a soothing gesture.
"Jungkook if you won't talk then how will we know what's the problem. C'mon just a little conversation ? " she suggested gently, her voice filled with maternal warmth and concern.
Jungkook hesitated for a moment, but eventually, he nodded in agreement,
As everyone settled into the living room, Jungkook was sandwiched between his parents. With a deep breath, he began to speak, his voice trembling with pent-up emotion.
"I-I don't know what happened," Jungkook began, his words faltering as tears welled in his eyes. "It's like...it's like they don't even see me anymore. Taehyung, Hye-joon, Ta-aemin... they...they always ignore me. They treat me like I'm...like I'm invisible."
Jungkook's voice cracked as he spoke, his heartache evident in every word. His parents listened intently, their hearts breaking for their son as he poured out his pain.
He poured all his emotions out. He spoke about every complaint he had and every detail of how he felt.
Yoongi was burning in anger, he had never in his wildest dreams thought that Taehyung could ever do this.
Before Taehyung could respond to Jungkook's words, Yoongi intervened, his voice sharp with anger as he grabbed Taehyung's collar. "Get out. Right now," he spat, his eyes flashing with fury.
Mrs. Jeon quickly intervened, her voice firm as she slightly pushed Yoongi away from Taehyung. "Yoongi, stop," she admonished, her tone stern.
Taehyung, Hye-joon, and Taemin sat in stunned silence, they had never realized the extent of Jungkook's pain, the depth of his loneliness.
Mrs. Jeon then turned to Taehyung, her expression grave. "Taehyung, I'm really disappointed," she said, her voice tinged with disappointment.
With that, she gently guided Jungkook towards his room, her heart heavy with sorrow for the pain her son had endured.
Meanwhile, Mr. Jeon and Yoongi exchanged a knowing look, their anger simmering beneath the surface. "Taehyung," Mr. Jeon said, "Please, go away for now. I...I don't even want to see your face right now."
" halabeoji- " Hye-joon began but before she could proceed futher, Mr. Jeon interrupted her.
"Hye-joon, you are 24 years old now," Mr. Jeon began, "You and Taemin are no longer kids, and I won't sugarcoat my words when talking to you both."
With a pointed look, Mr. Jeon directed his words towards Hye-joon, his expression serious as he continued, "Do you even know how many sacrifices Jungkook has made for you both?"
He paused, allowing his words to sink in before continuing, "He resisted from pursuing his dream of becoming a lawyer because he felt he wasn't giving you both enough time and attention."
Hye-joon's eyes widened in realization as Mr. Jeon continued to speak, "You call Jungkook a bad mother, but do you even know what he has done for you?"
Mr. Jeon's voice softened slightly as he recounted a poignant memory from their past. "When you were just four years old, you and Taehyung were involved in a car accident. Despite having given birth to Taemin just two days ago, Jungkook his blood to save your life."
He paused again, his gaze locking with Hye-joon's as he continued, "He was hospitalized himself, but he still took care of you both, even though he was sick and weak."
Hye-joon's eyes glistened with tears as she listened to her grandfather's words,
"And Taemin, do you remember when you broke your leg in third grade?"
"Taehyung was out of town and Jungkook took you hospital at midnight by himself. He stayed by your side the whole night, despite having a fever himself. He cried seeing you in pain, but he never once left your side."
Taemin remained silent. He didn't had any words he could possibly think of speaking.
Then Mr. Jeon turned to Taehyung, his eyes were filled with disappointment. Taehyung's eyes remained downcast, unable to meet the accusing gaze of Mr. Jeon and Yoongi.
"T-Taehyung..." Mr. Jeon's voice was tinged with sorrow as he addressed his son-in-law, "Do I even need to explain what Jungkook has done for you?"
Taehyung's breath caught in his throat, a lump forming as he struggled to find the words to respond. Guilt gnawed at his conscience, each word from Mr. Jeon's lips like a dagger to his heart.
"I-I'm sorry," Taehyung whispered, his voice barely audible above the weight of his shame.
"I did a mistake giving you my son," Mr. Jeon muttered, his voice heavy with regret. "I did a huge mistake. I wish I didn't agree to the proposal that day."
With tears in his eyes, Mr. Jeon turned backwards and started going towards his room.
Taehyung saw him leaving with teary eyes and before he could fully process the depth of his words, Yoongi's hand came crashing across his cheek, the sting of the slap reverberating through the room.
Shocked, Taehyung stumbled backward, his hand rising instinctively to cradle his burning cheek.
"Yoongi!" Jimin's voice cut through the tense atmosphere, his hand shooting out to restrain his husband. "Stop."
Yoongi's chest heaved with anger as he glared at Taehyung, his eyes blazing with fury. "You don't deserve to be called his husband,"
Jimin's grip tightened on Yoongi's arm, "Taehyung, take Hye-joon and Taemin and go for now," he said, his voice gentle but firm.
Taehyung nodded silently, he signalled Hye-joon and Taemin to go outside and they nodded.
Meanwhile with Jungkook........
Mrs. Jeon held her son close, his sobs echoing through the silence of the night. Her heart ached as she witnessed his anguish, the weight of his pain pressing heavily upon her own soul.
"Eo-omma," Jungkook's voice was choked with tears as he gazed up at her, his eyes brimming with tears. "Am I a bad moth-her and h-husband?"
Mrs. Jeon's heart shattered at the vulnerability in her son's voice, the raw pain etched upon his tear-streaked face. Cupping his cheeks in her trembling hands, she pressed a long kiss to his forehead,
"No, my son," she whispered, her voice trembling with emotion. "You are the best mother and husband anyone could ask for." She kissed his whole face multiple times.
But Jungkook's cries only intensified, his anguish pouring forth like a torrential downpour. "Then w-why don't they like me, huh?" he cried, his voice breaking with despair.
Tears welled in Mrs. Jeon's eyes as she held her son tightly, "Oh, my baby," she murmured, her voice thick with emotion.
As Jungkook's sobs wracked his body, Mrs. Jeon's heart shattered anew, her own tears mingling with his as she shared in his pain. She then called out for Jimin,
"Jimin please, bring some water for Jungkook."
Jimin nodded and soon appeared at her side, a glass of water in his hand. Gently, he offered it to Jungkook, his expression filled with concern.
"Here, Jungkook," he said softly, "Drink this, slowly."
Accepting the glass with trembling hands, Jungkook took a few sips, the cool liquid providing a momentary respite.
In the soft glow of the bedside lamp, Mrs. Jeon gently guided Jungkook to lie down. But Jungkook resisted,
"Baby, please," Mrs. Jeon pleaded, her voice laced with concern. "You need to rest."
But Jungkook shook his head adamantly, his sobs echoing through the room like a mournful melody. Mrs. Jeon exchanged a worried glance with Jimin, their hearts heavy with the weight of Jungkook's pain.
With gentle insistence, Mrs. Jeon and Jimin guided Jungkook to lie down, Mrs. Jeon cradled his hand in hers, her fingers tracing soothing patterns against his feverish skin.
"Shh, sleep now," she whispered, her voice a gentle lullaby in the darkness. "Eomma is here, my baby."
Jimin joined in, rubbing Jungkook's hand with gentle strokes. Slowly, ever so slowly, Jungkook's sobs began to subside, his breathing evening out as exhaustion claimed him.
As Jungkook finally succumbed to the embrace of sleep, Jimin and Mrs. Jeon slipped out of his room,
Mrs. Jeon's tears flowed freely, her sobs echoed through the stillness of the night. Jimin held her close, "Eomma, don't cry," he murmured softly, his voice a gentle reassurance in the face of her sorrow.
But Mrs. Jeon's tears continued to fall, her heart aching with the knowledge of Jungkook's pain. "How ca-an I not cry, Jimin?" she whispered brokenly, her voice trembling with emotion. "My baby, my Jungko-ook, whom I raised with so much love... He was suffering, and I didn't even know."
Jimin closed his eyes and hugged Mrs. Jeon even closer and started patting her back as she continued to cry.
Meanwhile with Taehyung........
In the quiet confines of Taehyung's room, the weight of his guilt hung heavy in the air, casting a pall over everything it touched. He sat alone on the edge of his bed, the memories of his past actions haunting him like ghosts.
How could he have been so blind, so oblivious to the pain he had caused Jungkook? The realization gnawed at him,
His gaze drifted to the photograph resting on his bedside table, a snapshot frozen in time capturing a moment of happiness shared between him and Jungkook.
Taehyung reached out and picked it up, his fingers tracing the contours of Jungkook's face with a tenderness born of remorse. "I'm sorry," he whispered, his voice barely above a breath, as if afraid to disturb the fragile silence that enveloped him.
The memories flooded back with startling clarity, each scene playing out in vivid detail before his mind's eye. He saw himself turning a blind eye to Jungkook's pain, dismissing his feelings with callous indifference.
He saw the hurt and disappointment reflected in Jungkook's eyes, a silent plea for understanding that went unanswered. And with each passing moment, Taehyung's heart grew heavier, burdened by the weight of his own regret.
"I didn't realize," he murmured, his voice trembling with emotion. "I didn't realize how much I hurt you, how much I took you for granted." Taehyung bowed his head, his shoulders sagging under the weight of his guilt.
"I'm sorry," he whispered again, the words a mantra of repentance. "I'm sorry for everyt-thing." And with each repetition, a sense of resolution began to take hold,
But apologies alone were not enough. Taehyung knew that he had to prove himself worthy of Jungkook's forgiveness, to show through his actions that he was truly remorseful for the pain he had caused.
He knew he had to apologise to Jungkook but with what face ? With what heart ?
In Hye-joon's room.........
Hye-joon sat alone in her room, the weight of her grandfather's words bearing down on her like a heavy burden. "Jungkook sacrificed so much for you," he had said, his voice echoing in her mind with haunting clarity.
She couldn't shake the feeling of guilt that gnawed at her insides,
"Why did I never realize?" she murmured to herself, her voice barely above a whisper. "Why did I never see how much eomma di-id for us?" The questions hung in the air, unanswered and unanswerable, swirling around her like a tempestuous storm.
She buried her face in her hands, the weight of her guilt pressing down on her like a suffocating blanket. She could feel the tears welling up behind her closed lids, hot and stinging against her skin.
"I'm s-sorry," she whispered,
But apologies alone were not enough to ease the pain of her conscience, nor could they undo the damage that had been done. Hye-joon knew that she had to do more, that she had to somehow make amends for her past mistakes. But where to begin?
She thought back to the countless times she had brushed off Jungkook's concerns, the times she had dismissed his feelings with callous indifference. How could she be so heartless ?
She continued to cry her heart out,
" Hye-joon come and eat, the dinner is ready. "
" Aghh I don't want to eomma, just eat it yourself. "
The scenes replayed in her mind again and again. " Ahhhhh, " She cried out holding her head.
In Taemin's room.......
Taemin lay on his bed, his tears flowing freely as he grappled with the weight of his guilt. "Eo-omm-ma," he whispered brokenly, his voice choked with emotion. "I wa-ant you."
The words echoed in the silence of his room, a plaintive cry for the mother he longed for, the mother he felt slipping away with each passing moment. He buried his face in his pillow, the fabric absorbing his tears as he struggled to make sense of the tumultuous emotions raging within him.
"I miss you, eom-mma," he murmured, his voice barely audible above the sound of his own sobs. "I mi-iss you so much." The words were a lament, a mournful dirge for the bond that had been fractured by his own actions.
He thought back to Jungkook, to the countless times he had pushed him away, the times he had rejected his love and his care with callous indifference.
"I'm so-orry," he whispered, but apologies alone were not enough to mend the broken pieces of their relationship, nor could they soothe the ache of his own guilt.
He longed for Jungkook, for the warmth of his embrace and the comfort of his presence. He wanted nothing more than to go to him, to seek solace in the arms of the mother he had pushed away. But he knew that he couldn't, not now.
"I wa-ant you, eom-mma," he repeated, his voice raw with emotion. "I want y-you to ho-old me, to t-tell me everyth-hing wi-ill be ok-kay." But the words remained unspoken, hanging in the air like a silent plea for forgiveness that he knew he didn't deserve.
He lay there for what felt like an eternity, his tears staining the fabric of his pillow as he grappled with the weight of his guilt.
" E-Eom-ma. "
