Chapter 16

Third person's pov

After the doctor's appointment, Jungkook made his way to the nearby cafe.

Jungkook sat alone in the corner of the cozy café, his mind heavy with the weight of his recent conversation with the doctor. As he waited for his coffee to arrive, he suddenly got a message from Eunwoo.

He opened the message from Eunwoo and read it carefully, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. Despite everything he was going through, it was comforting to know that he had a friend who cared about him.

" Hey kookie! How are you and how did the doctor's appointment go ?

He typed out a reply, his fingers tapping on the screen. "Hey, Eunwoo, I am okay" he began, "The appointment was fine, the doctor and I had a conversation about the chemotherapy sessions."

Soon the waitress arrived with Jungkook's coffee.

As he waited for Eunwoo's response, Jungkook took a sip of his coffee, savoring the rich, bitter taste as it warmed him from the inside out.

After a few moments, his phone buzzed with a new message from Eunwoo. "Good to hear that the appointment went fine. Just message me anytime you need to hmm, I am here for you. ❤"

Jungkook felt a lump form in his throat as he read Eunwoo's words.

"Thanks, woonie," he replied, " It means a lot to me. And yeah, things are tough right now, but I'm trying to stay positive and take things one day at a time. How are you ?"

As he waited for Eunwoo's response, Jungkook took another sip of his coffee,

Eunwoo's reply came quickly, his words filled with warmth, "I'm doing okay, kook," he wrote. " But seriously, if you ever need someone to talk to or just hang out with, I'm here for you. Like always. "

Jungkook smiled as he read Eunwoo's message, feeling a sense of comfort wash over him.

"Now don't make me cry with your words," he typed a reply to Eunwoo, "I'm grateful to have a friend like you. Let's catch up soon, okay? "

As he sent the message, Jungkook felt a sense of relief wash over him. He took a deep breath and set the phone aside,

After 10 minutes, Jungkook finished his coffee and now he was going to the ATM to withdraw some money.

Jungkook's heart raced as he approached the ATM machine and heard the commotion nearby. Without hesitation, he followed the sound, his senses sharpening as he drew closer. His frown deepened as he recognized the familiar tone of a girl's voice. It was hye-joon's voice.

" Hye-joon ?" He mumbled to himself.

As he rounded the corner, his worst fears were confirmed. There, in front of him, was Hye-joon, struggling against the grip of a boy. Jungkook's blood boiled with rage as he rushed forward.

"Hye-joon!" he called out, his voice cutting through the chaos. "Are you okay?"

Hye-joon's eyes widened in relief as she spotted Jungkook. Without a moment's hesitation, she broke free from the boy's grasp and ran towards her mother,

"Eomma, he won't leav-ve me alone," she cried, her voice trembling with fear.

Jungkook's eyes narrowed as he turned his attention to the boy, his expression darkening with anger. "Leave her alone," he commanded, his voice firm and commanding.

The boy scoffed, taking a step back but still wearing a menacing smirk. "Mind your own business, old man," he sneered,

Jungkook's jaw clenched as he took a step forward, his fists tightening at his sides. "She's my daughter," he growled, his voice low and dangerous. "And you will not lay a hand on her again."

The boy's smirk faltered as he realized the seriousness of Jungkook's tone. He glanced nervously at Hye-joon before taking another step back, his bravado waning.

"Fine, whatever," he muttered, his voice lacking the earlier confidence. With one last disdainful glare, he turned on his heel and slunk away, disappearing into the crowd.

Jungkook let out a breath he hadn't realized he'd been holding as he watched the boy retreat. Turning back to Hye-joon, he pulled her into a tight embrace, holding her close.

"It's okay, Hye-joon," he murmured, his voice gentle but firm. "You're safe now. "

Hye-joon buried her face in her mother's chest, her body shaking with sobs. Jungkook held her close, his heart aching at the sight of his daughter in distress.

Jungkook then guided Hye-joon towards a nearby bench, his arm wrapped protectively around her shoulders. He could feel the tension radiating off her as they sat down,

"Here, drink some water," Jungkook said gently, handing her a bottle he had retrieved from his bag. Hye-joon took it with trembling hands, her fingers fumbling slightly as she unscrewed the cap and took a few shaky sips.

As she drank, Jungkook watched her carefully, his brow furrowed with concern. He could see the lingering fear in her eyes,

Once she had finished, Jungkook reached out and placed a comforting hand on her knee, " Are you okay?" he asked softly,

Hye-joon nodded, her throat tight with emotion as she struggled to find the words to express herself. "I... I think so," she whispered, her voice barely above a hoarse whisper.

She took a deep breath, trying to steady her racing heart as she focused on the steady rhythm of Jungkook's hand on her knee.

They stayed like that for a few minutes then Hye-joon started speaking,

Flashback:

2 months ago, Hye-joon couldn't believe her luck when she started talking to a boy named Taesoo. He was charming, funny, and easy to talk to. They bonded over their love for music and books, and soon they were having long conversations that would go on for hours.

Taesoo asked Hye-joon to meet him in person, and she eagerly agreed. They met at a cafe, and their first meeting was magical. They talked for hours and didn't even realize how much time had passed. From that day on, they started meeting regularly, and Hye-joon found herself falling for him.

A few days ago, Taesoo invited Hye-joon to a party at his friend's house. Hye-joon was a bit hesitant,
but she didn't want to miss this chance to spend time with Taesoo. As she arrived at the party, she realized that there were so many other boys and girls there. Hye-joon felt a bit uncomfortable as she didn't know anyone except Taesoo.

But as the night progressed, Hye-joon found herself having a good time. She even danced with Taesoo, and for a moment, everything felt perfect. However, things took a turn for the worse when Taesoo started acting weirdly. He would touch Hye-joon inappropriately, and she could see the lust in his eyes.

Hye-joon tried to brush it off, thinking maybe Taesoo had a bit too much to drink. But then, a girl came and sat on Taesoo's lap, wrapping her arms around his neck. Hye-joon's heart sank as she realized what was happening. Taesoo didn't even hesitate as he kissed the other girl back.

Hye-joon was in shock and couldn't believe what she was seeing. She stood up, feeling hurt and betrayed. 'What the hell, Taesoo?' she yelled, her voice breaking.

Taesoo didn't even flinch as he replied, 'What's wrong? Are you angry that I kissed someone? Go and kiss someone too!'

Hye-joon's eyes filled with tears as she realized that Taesoo didn't care about her at all. She mustered up all her courage and slapped him hard before storming out of the party. She could feel the tears streaming down her face as she made her way back home.

The next few days were a blur for Hye-joon. She couldn't stop thinking about what happened at the party.

She felt humiliated and used. But what hurt her even more was that Taesoo had been stalking her ever since. He would often show up at the hospital.

Today as she was walking towards her car after using the ATM, Hye-joon heard footsteps behind her. She turned around and saw Taesoo standing there, a smile on his face.

'What do you want?' Hye-joon asked, trying to hide the fear in her voice.

'I just came to see you, baby,' Taesoo replied, stepping closer to her.

Hye-joon took a step back, feeling her heart rate increase. She didn't want to be near him, but she also didn't want to show him how much he was affecting her.

'You need to leave me alone, Taesoo. I don't want anything to do with you,' Hye-joon asserted, trying to sound confident.

But Taesoo just laughed and said, 'You know you can't resist me, Hye-joon. You're just playing hard to get.'

Hye-joon couldn't believe how delusional Taesoo was. He seemed to think that he had some sort of hold on her, but she was determined to show him otherwise.

"I mean it, Taesoo. Just leave me alone or I will call the police,"  Hye-joon said firmly, turning to walk away.

She could feel him following her and her heart was pounding in her chest. She didn't know what Taesoo was capable of, and the thought scared her.

Suddenly she felt two arms wrapped around her and saw Taesoo trying to drag here from there.

Flashback end:

Jungkook abruptly stopped her with a loud slap across her face. Hye-joon was completely taken aback, her hand instinctively flying to her red cheek. This was the first time Jungkook had ever laid a hand on her, and it left her shocked and speechless.

Her eyes filled with tears, Hye-joon looked up at Jungkook with shock.

" E-Eomma ?" She mumbled,

"Don't call me eomma when you don't even consider me as your mother!" His voice was filled with anger and disappointment.

'You didn't even think of me or your dad capable enough that you would tell us that you are being stalked!'

Hye-joon was still too shocked to even process what was happening. Tears were now streaming down her face, and she could feel the pain in her cheek from the force of the slap.

'Do you even know how scared I felt seeing that man dragging you?' Jungkook continued, his eyes darting back and forth between Hye-joon's
tear-stained face and the street below.

"What if something had happened to you? Do you even realise what could have happened if I didn't came here on time?"

Hye-joon opened her mouth to speak but nothing came. All she could do was shake and cry.

Jungkook's heart was heavy as he looked at Hye-joon, tears streaming down her cheeks. He felt a mixture of frustration, worry, and fear. Taking a deep breath to steady himself, he spoke in a strained voice,

"Don't... don't ever call me mother, Hye-joon. If... if you don't see me that way, then I won't force it. From today onwards, I won't interfere in your life. I won't bother you anymore."

Hye-joon's sobs intensified, and she shook her head vigorously. "N-No, Eomm-ma, pleas-se... I'm sor-rry," she pleaded, reaching out to grab his hand. "I didn't mea-an it like th-hat. I was just sca-ared, and I did-dn't know what to do. I was so afra-aid, Eomma..."

Unable to hold back her emotions any longer, Hye-joon threw herself into Jungkook's arms, clinging to him as if her life depended on it. "I'm so-orry, Eomma, I'm so sorry," she repeated like a mantra, her words muffled against his chest.

Jungkook felt frozen.
