xii
Soobin found his consciousness returning to him with the break of daylight, sun beams filtering through the windows as to bother him.
The boy sat up and stretched, feeling the thin bedsheets fall off of his body.
Soobin paused at this. He looked down, seeing his bare chest and shoulders covered only by the sheets.
'What?' was all Soobin could think, feeling increasingly nervous as he scanned the area around him.
He recognized it to be Yeonjun's room, although the perspective had changed as he found himself mysteriously now on the bed rather than where he'd been.
He caught sight of himself in a nearby mirror and froze, taking in the sight of red lines littering the sides of his neck; the unmistakable marks of teeth pressed into skin.
Soobin had no time to mentally process this as the bedroom door swung open, scaring him half to death.
"Oh, you're awake?" said the boy who stepped inside the room, pushing his hair back.
It was unmistakably Yeonjun, and Soobin stared at the boy who had strangely entered the room in only a pair of sweatpants— nothing else.
"Jun, what...?" Soobin questioned timidly as the elder boy walked over to the bed, getting on top of it as well.
"Hm?" Yeonjun murmured, crawling over to Soobin, who backed up on instinct as the elder approached him.
Soobin found himself leaned back against the pillow, with Yeonjun straddling his waist as he looked down at him.
"Something wrong, baby?" Yeonjun purred, leaning dangerously close to the younger.
Soobin's eyes widened at the pet name.
"Baby...?" he murmured, the sight of Yeonjun in front of him distracting him from his thoughts.
"Mm, my Binnie is always so cute when he wakes up," Yeonjun said, tilting the younger's head up with a finger.
"Jun... this isn't funny... what?" Soobin said, feeling quite scared, and yet drawn to the other boy at the same time.
Yeonjun flashed him a grin.
"Huh? You're so cute, Soobin," he laughed it off, placing a hand on the back of the other's neck.
Soobin nearly jumped at the sight of the boy's new sharp canines, a clear match to the markings on his neck.
Had he had those before? Soobin was pretty sure he would have noticed. Something as obvious as that...
His thoughts were cut off by Yeonjun's lips pressing up against his, in a forceful yet sweet peck.
Soobin, surprised at the feeling, flinched as if to push the elder off.
Yet his hands seemed to have a mind of their own, as despite his conscious will he found himself pulling the elder towards him eagerly.
Soobin kissed the other back firmly, scaring himself with his own actions.
He had no idea what he was doing; all he knew was that whatever was happening felt way too right.
Yeonjun laughed into the kiss, sending butterflies through Soobin's system.
The elder slowly broke away from him, turning as to leave a messy trail of kisses down Soobin's neck.
Soobin closed his eyes as to bask in the sensation, grasping at Yeonjun's bare back on instinct.
Yet suddenly... he felt nothing.
"Jun...?" Soobin questioned after a moment of waiting.
He opened his eyes to be met with the darkness of an unlit room, his eyes unadjusted to the low light.
He immediately shot up, heart racing as he glanced around him, spotting a clock that read '5:59 AM.'
The feeling of his hands squishing the soft beanbag under him knocked him to his senses. He looked down at himself, only to be greeted with his body fully clothed in Yeonjun's hoodie and his own sweatpants, completely undisturbed.
What the fuck.
Literally, what the fuck. Soobin held a hand up to his own neck, only to not find a single marking on it.
Soobin took a deep breath to calm his shaky nerves, reassuring himself repeatedly that he was fine.
He couldn't believe he would ever dream about something like that.
"Ah, what the hell..." he whispered to himself, running both hands through his hair. He'd been asleep on the beanbag for hours, and therefore he stood up and stretched out just to reorient himself.
Glancing around, Soobin didn't locate the object of his dreams anywhere in the room. He was both grateful and terrified of this.
Wondering where the other was, Soobin gathered the nerve to creep out into the hallway, now able to see better in the dark.
Guilty thoughts of the experience he'd just had haunted him with every step.
Soobin blocked them out of his mind as best he could, although that wasn't saying much.
The sound of a quiet melody grabbed his attention.
Soobin carefully followed the sound, padding lightly down the hall and finding himself approaching the kitchen.
He stopped at the doorway, hearing the familiar tune of a popular song coming from inside.
Soobin peaked into the room, hiding himself behind the doorframe.
Yeonjun stood at the kitchen counter, humming contently to himself as he tipped a carton of milk carefully into a bowl of cereal.
He reached over, setting the carton next to a second bowl he'd set aside of what looked like the same brand.
He walked over to the fridge, swinging it open and illuminating his face with the pale light.
Yeonjun dug around for a moment, before pulling out a small carton of juice.
He inspected the box, squinting in order to read the label, then nodded to himself in approval as he brought the drink over to the counter with the rest of the food items.
Soobin felt like he could scream at what he was seeing. The elder was so domestic in this state. So... normal.
Nothing like the absolute rollercoaster of a dream he'd just gone through.
Soobin built up the courage to step into the kitchen, putting himself in full view of the other.
Yeonjun whipped around at the other's presence, startled by the unexpected guest appearing in his peripheral vision.
"Damn, Bin, you scared the shit outta me," Yeonjun put a hand to his chest for effect, a stupid smile working its way onto his face as he recognized the younger.
Soobin only muttered an apology, his gaze lingering on Yeonjun's smile.
His teeth were normal, human as they always had been. Yeonjun too, was normal, the same kind boy he'd befriended.
He didn't know why something within him still felt tense.
'Maybe it's because you dreamed about kissing him, dumbass,'
Soobin internally scolded himself, suddenly unable to look Yeonjun in the eyes.
"What are you doing?" Soobin asked to distract himself, wandering over to the counter covered in food.
"I was makin' breakfast. All I have is cereal though," Yeonjun admitted, accompanied by a sheepish smile.
Soobin held back a smile at this, picking up one of the bowls.
"Mine now," he mouthed, provoking a tiny laugh from Yeonjun as he looked for a spoon.
Yeonjun leaned back against the counter, pulling out his phone as to check the time.
"My mom should be home in like 25 minutes," Yeonjun stated with a sigh.
Soobin silently chewed a spoonful of cereal.
"Is that a bad thing?" he asked.
Yeonjun shrugged. "Depends how comfortable you are with being asked really weird shit," he said, picking up his own bowl as well.
"Like...?" Soobin asked, rightfully curious.
"You don't wanna know. It would be horrible for both of us," Yeonjun shook his head.
Soobin pursed his lips, accepting this answer despite remaining unsatisfied.
"Do you need clothes, by the way?" Yeonjun mentioned, glancing at Soobin's outfit. "You've been wearing that since yesterday."
"Oh, it's okay, I could just drop by my house and change," Soobin tried to suggest, feeling a bit small under the disapproving look the other gave towards the idea.
"Soobin, you're not going all the way to your house at 6 AM. I have a lot of clothes," Yeonjun borderline commanded, leaving the younger with no choice but to agree.
"It's just that I keep stealing your hoodies... I feel bad," Soobin whined, seeing Yeonjun roll his eyes in reply.
"You can have them for all I care. It's fine," Yeonjun gently flicked him on the shoulder.
Soobin felt a little too excited at this comment. He already knew he would be testing out this offer: Keeping one of Yeonjun's hoodies certainly wasn't an unpleasant thought.
The two drifted into a pleasant conversation as they ate, the sun slowly rising outside the windows.
The jingling of keys in the front door's lock grabbed the pair's attention immediately.
"Ah, fuck!" Yeonjun cursed, setting his bowl down rather harshly on the counter.
"Mom's here. Go to my room and change, I'll deal with her," Yeonjun gently pushed Soobin towards the hallway.
Soobin barely had time to nod before he heard the door click unlocked. He took this opportunity to dash into the hall, heading back to the safety of Yeonjun's room.
"Hey kitten. Why are you up so early?" Soobin heard a distant female voice ask. He raised his eyebrows subconsciously, impressed by how little the walls seemed to block sound in this house.
Soobin dug through Yeonjun's closet, pulling out a pair of jeans and a cute red sweatshirt which he planned to steal.
"No reason. Just woke up early," he heard Yeonjun say from in the kitchen, followed by the clink of a spoon being set on a counter.
A silence ensued, one which Soobin questioned as he hurriedly slipped the jeans on, buttoning them up.
"You brought someone home last night, didn't you," the woman's voice concluded with an air of seriousness.
"Yeah... what about it?" Yeonjun replied in a tone that suggested he'd expected this conversation topic.
Soobin felt a little bad about eavesdropping, yet what else did he have to do as he changed shirts besides listen?
"Someone new?" the woman questioned.
"Yeah..."
"What gender?"
"Male. Mom, please..." Yeonjun pleaded, exasperated.
"Has he been tested?" she immediately asked.
"I don't think he needs to be..."
"Why, he's a virgin?"
"I... maybe? We didn't do anything," Yeonjun insisted.
The mom only laughed at this. "Yeah, sure. Just like last time you 'didn't do anything'."
"I didn't! I swear to god this time," Yeonjun argued.
Soobin was beginning to understand just why Yeonjun had wanted to avoid getting questioned by his mother.
He finished grabbing his stuff and getting ready. He knew he would have to face the pair eventually, and thus he walked back down the hallway and stood at the entrance to the kitchen.
Soobin cleared his throat from the doorway, causing both figures to look at him.
"You ready to go?" Soobin asked, a bit nervous under the intense gaze of the mother.
Yeonjun nodded harshly, way too eager to be escaping the interrogation he was enduring.
"We have to go to school, so..." Yeonjun interrupted, jogging over to Soobin and taking him by the hand.
Soobin tried to ignore how happy the gesture made him, and instead quietly followed along as Yeonjun led him to the front door.
"We're talking later," the mom said pointedly as Yeonjun grabbed his stuff, swinging open the front door.
"Yeah, I bet," he said half sarcastically as he stepped out, pulling Soobin along with him.
As the door shut, the two stood hand in hand, both occupied by greatly different thoughts.
"Sorry. I told you that she's like that," Yeonjun cringed as he glanced back towards the door.
Soobin nodded, his mind preoccupied by the feeling of Yeonjun's fingers intertwined with his own.
He didn't know if he was thinking too hard into the dream from earlier, or if Yeonjun just looked really cute at that moment.
Soobin exhaled, focusing on the ground as he walked.
He knew it would be a long day for him today.
