"the best klutz ever"
"I can't be late on my first day, Kyu Won!" I complained and walked as fast as my heels and tight skirt would allow. I now regret not wearing my grey dress pants instead.
"Geez slow down woman! We're not late. We're on time. It's 7:59. By 8 we'll be inside the building." My former college senior and co-worker starting today, Kyu Won, huffed while trying to keep up with my pace.
"I consider being on time as late. "
"Why are you such a freak?"
"You love this freak."
She playfully swung her bag at me, missing my head by meagre inches.
I sneaked past the crowd standing in line, towards the entrance. Several people treated me with nasty glares, shoves and sounds of displeasure.
Sorry peeps, but you can't survive in this unfair world without being a little unfair yourself.
Once I reached the massive glass doors, I pushed it open.
Well, not really. What I wanted to say was that I tried to push it open.
But clumsily failed a couple more times.
My moment of dumbness was starting to gather attention. The thought of people watching my stupity made things even worse.
How hard could it be? Open sesami!!?
"Why isn't this opening?" I asked Kyu Won.
"Probably cuz you're pushing a pull door." A male voice replied.
Oh.
Before I could try again, he reached out from behind me and pulled it open.
Since I was standing too close to the door, I had to take a huge step in reverse to make way for it. This had me backing right onto the guy.
I was startled by the impact and felt my neck heating up in embarassement.
Without sparing a glance at whoever the guy was, I quickly muttered a sorry, thanked him and scurried towards the elevator.
Kyu Won was no where to be found. She probably went off to her department.
Great. So much for expecting some moral support on my first day.
Two people got into the elevator with me. A suit wearing guy stood to my left, and a hoddie wearing guy positioned himself behind me.
I pressed the button for the 9th floor and checked my watch. 8:00 am. I was just on time. I hated that. The fact that I could have been late makes me anxious.
Hoodie guy leaned forward and pressed the button for the 10th floor. That's when I realized the person behind me was the same one who had questioned my sanity at the entrance.
Well, he didn't literally question my sanity. But he was thinking it, obviously. Like, haha this dumb bitch couldn't open a door.
Time to thank mom and dad for not being blonde.
I cringed. Making myself as small as possible, I waited impatiently for the elevator to reach my floor.
"You think the papz saw me?" Hoodie guy spoke after a while.
"Yes, they were near the stairwell." Suit guy replied.
"Damn. Thought I was stealthy enough."
Hoodie guys voice seemed too oddly familiar. Not because I heard it at the entrance earlier, but because of some other deep seated memory.
Deciding to take a sneaky glance at him, I rummaged through my side purse, trying to look like I was searching for something in it, and subtly peeked at his face.
Well, to hell with subtlety. The guy was starring right at me. Caught.
He raised an eyebrow, looking annoyed, intimidating, and amused at the same time.
I couldn't look away at once because I was too shook. This hoodie guy was none other that the famous BTS member Jeon Jungkook.
I couldn't even decide what to do next. Maybe closing my dropped open mouth would be a good place to start.
I shouldn't have been shocked. I mean, what else did I expect by walking into the Headquarters of BigHit?
It's just that I didn't expect to see any of them until after I met the Manager.
Suddenly, he started walking towards me, closing the small space between us. My thoughts rushed.
What is he doing? Why is he coming close to me? Stay away!
He then placed both his hands on my shoulders.
My heart started beating so hard and fast that it was all I could hear and my skin was wired with anticipation. Anticipation for what I didn't even know.
I must be dreaming. I've only ever kissed Jungkook in my dreams.
Kissed? What am I even thinking? I blinked my eyes rapidly, trying to stop my mind from flying all over.
His grip on my shoulders tightened.
But then, he did something completely unexpected. He flipped me around and shoved me out of the elevator.
Wait...what?
That's when I realized that the elevator had stopped and opened at the 9th floor.
When I looked around I saw everyone staring at me. A man and woman at the reception, the office workers, a peon, just about everyone.
My soul withered with embarassement. I tightened my fists, pinched my eyes closed, and tried to calm myself down.
It's fine. Everything's fine. Let's pretend like nothing happened. You can do this. You're good at this shit. You're the best klutz ever. You've embarassed yourself a thousand times before. This is nothing. Get over it!
Taking a deep breath, I straightened my back, put on a smile and walked up to the woman at the reception.
"Hi, I'm Lisa, the manager's new assistant."
