matt's arms were around her, pulling her in, smelling her scent. as soon as she was let free, matt vowed to never let her go again.

"morning rena." matt whispered. "hi matt." she mumbled. "are you okay?" she nodded and turned towards matt.

"i feel so fucking guilty.." she whispered, sentence trailing off.

"it's not your fault rena, it's the killer's." matt tried to reassure her.

"yeah, but where's that killer now?" she countered.

matt didn't have an answer to that. but where was the killer?

maverick's pov

"boss! job is done! do i get my pay?" maverick asked kieran.

"of course boy, here." kieran threw a bag of money to the boy.

"i'm going to go back to my apartment now, so lemme know when the next kill is happening." maverick said.

"oh, we need to kill that group of girls, soon. the main one, who got thrown into jail for a week, but her boyfriend bailed her out."

"i think her name is verena."

"you need to follow her, we need to get to her."

"but that means we have to kill all her friends to get to her. but then how are we gonna get her boyfriend away from her. he's pretty protective."

"we'll worry about that later, now it's time for you to dm the next girl..."

"which is ashley madden." maverick concluded.

"correct, we gotta make verena weak."

no one's pov

"are you good?" nick asked, as she walked around outside with him.

"i have a great idea what we can be for halloween this year." she smiled.

"too early vera." nick mumbled.

"but nick i love halloween!" she whined.

yes, i know!"

"can i please tell you my idea?" she gave him puppy dog eyes.

"fine, hurry up though!"

"scooby doo gang." she stated. "hell no vera!"

"nick this is like an awesome idea, chris is already on board."

"wait, wait, wait, who would we all be?" nick asked.

"matt would be fred, you would be probably velma, chris said i would be scooby, and chris agreed that he'd be a good daphne."

"why in hell would chris wear purple?" nick said.

"what about you, you're velma, the researcher?" she teased him.

"i would not, you imbecile. have you heard about the investigation?" nick asked.

she went quiet, not knowing what to say. but nick struck a nerve in her. who was the killer and who were going to catch them? or just one?

"i'm sure the cops have it under control nick, no need to worry about it." she told him.

"but aren't you a little suspicious?" he asked her.

"nah, not really, besides everything is fine now." she said.

"you freaking got arrested, and were in jail for a week! you attacked an officer vera!" nick exclaimed. "and? they accused me of fucking killing my best friend."

"how are you so calm?"

"why are you so fucking nosy nick? god!" and she started walking away.

"hey! i can't leave you alone!"

"tell matt i'm going home." she said, not turning back.

later

she didn't go back home, like she was told to, she walked around town, just thinking of everything that's happened so far in life.

how could it come down to this? how could it come down to her best friend dying? and to top it off, she was getting accused of killing maddie.

she wasn't watching where she was going, but she bumped into someone. "oh my god, i'm so fucking sorry!" the person exclaimed.

"it's okay, just don't do it again." verena replied. she looked up to see who was the person, whom she didn't recognize, but he seemed oddly familiar.

she walked away, but the person was maverick. he looked in her direction, as she walked away, realizing he just found verena.
