*flashback*

"happy birthday maddie!!" choruses of that floated around the room.

maddie was turning 17 today, one of verena's besties. they've been through the thick and thin together. verena and maddie have been best friends since preschool, forever and always.

it was basically celebrating 14 years of friendship as well. maddie went to her gifts on the table. she grabbed the first couple from her parents, siblings.

she then moved onto verena's gift. it was wrapped, and it looked like someone helped her wrap it.

"vera what did you get me?" maddie teased. "open it and find out, i promise you'll love it." verena softly smiled.

and so, maddie ripped open the package, and inside was a scrapbook. filled with memories, ranging from when they were little, to now.

"vera, this is beautiful." she wiped the tears away. "are you crying?" verena asked.

"girl, i need a hug asap." she said to verena. making her softly laugh, and came over to her. both girls hugged, and they heard clicks of cameras.

verena broke the hug, grabbed the picture. and opened up the scrapbook to the end, where there was an opening for '14 years of friendship.' verena taped the picture in, and it perfectly represented them.

"vera what the hell!" maddie yelled. "L!" she responded. "i hate you!" "no, you don't, you love me!" vera yelled.

"see, this is why we think you two are gay!" cora yelled. "we're not! she's happily dating matt!" maddie yelled.

"girl, tell us the tea about matt!"

"well, he asked me to be his girlfriend on my 16th birthday!!"

"isn't he like 19?"

"yeah, but we're not doing what i think you're thinking." she replied back to natalia. "good. he's a good guy though, i approve." natalia responded.

"thanks guys! he's really sweet." she said.

"anyone up to some scary movies?" morgan asked the group.

"hell yes!" al shouted.

"what about the halloween movies?" violet asked.

"you had me there. who wants snacks?" maya asked.

"me!!!" all the girls screamed.

"yeah, go maya, get them from the basement!"

"we're in the basement stupid!"

"whoops."

kieran's pov:

"you see her?" kieran asked.

"which one? there's like ten of them?" maverick asked.

"ugh, she's the one in the panda pajamas."

"ohhh, why are we out here watching through the window?" maverick asked.

"because, our plan is at midnight, we sneak in, and kill maddie."

"we can't do that!"

"why did i hire you to be my lackey anyways?" kieran rolled his eyes.

"because you said you needed help, and you said you would pay me well." maverick countered.

later

the girls crowded around the tv, watching scary movies, and it was nearing midnight, the two killers watched closely.

"matt called me, i'll be right back!" verena called out.

"anyone want some coffee?" selena asked.

"me!!" all the girls said.

"okay, can some of y'all help me?" she asked.

leaving the basement was selena, ashley, natalia, al, and morgan. "don't miss us too much!" they teased.

"ah damnit my door-dash is here! cora! come help me!" maya said.

"maddie will you be alright? i'm just going to the bathroom. don't worry maya and cora will be back in a minute." violet explained.

"i'll be fine violet, thanks." she smiled softly at the girl.

as the girls left, maddie sat alone, in the basement, waiting for the rest of her friends to come back, so they can finish the movie.

kieran's pov

"now's the time, let's go." he motioned to maverick. both of the men, opened the unlocked window, and slipped through.

both men, came into the light and met maddie, who was faced away from them.

no one's pov

"oh sweet maddie.." maverick started.

"oh maverick, how are you?" she turned towards him. this was maverick's job, he manipulated people thinking he's a nice guy, but really he just does it to get close with the victim.

"good, good. whatcha doing?"

"oh, me and my friends are watching some horror movie. why are you here?" she asked him.

"oh, y'know, just missed you." lies, all lies.

she blushed.

in the back of his mind, he didn't want to kill her, but she was how he got money.

as maddie continued talking, maverick slipped out a knife, tracing her neck with it.

"w-what are you doing?" she squeaked out.

"make one noise and you're dead." he hissed. out from behind him, kieran stepped out.

he stepped close to her, and plucked his gun out of his holster. maddie's eyes went wide, her face paled. this was her final moment, she was going to die.

gasping for breath, she started to see stars. her life was going in slow motion, and then darkness.

5:12 am

the 9 girls sat in the police station, each giving statements. their best friend was murdered, for verena the friendship broke apart.

it was so terrible, and she hasn't been able to fall asleep.

right now, ashley was getting in her statement. all the girls were crying, and huddled together in blankets. it was a sad sight to see as the police considered them all suspects.

verena watched ashley come out, and they called natalia back. each girl stuttered when they said their statements, and each time the police officer would shake their head, not believing.

finally it was verena's turn, and she slowly followed the officer, and was brought to a steel, cold room, a wooden chair was in the middle.

"sit in the chair." the officer said with monotony in his voice.

verena sat in the cold, wooden chair.

"so, did you kill maddie davis?" the officer stared me right in the eyes.

"so no polite formalities? like hi, hello, how you doing?"

"ma'am, we don't have time for this right now. now did you kill maddie davis this morning?" the officer asked again, more sternly.

"i did not, i was calling my fucking boyfriend!" she stood up from the chair with force.

"when did you see maddie davis last?" the officer pressed on.

"at maddie's house."

"what time?"

"last time was like 11:50 pm ish."

officer writes down notes.

"hmm, but you are her best friend, knows everything about her. did you manipulate her?"

"the fuck! i didn't do any of that shit!"

"lower your voice."

"why the fuck should i lower my fucking voice, when you're accusing me of manipulating and fucking killing my best friend of 14 years!" she fumed.

"please don't let me duct tape your mouth." the officer said.

"oh fuck it, with you and this station. fuck it all!" she yelled.

"travis!" the officer barked out.

soon enough, she felt handcuffs lock around her wrists, tightening them.

"let's not add more to your record miss kameron." the officer said.

"fuck you!" she spat out. she then kicked the officer behind her, and sprinted out from the room, but the other officer grabbed her.

"that's been added to your record miss kameron. attacking a police officer."

"oh joy." she sassed.

"amber, take her to the female jail cell!" the officer barked.

she grabbed verena, and led her out towards the cells, which she had to pass her friends.

as she passed, she saw matt, who sat there with his jaw dropped. he rushed up, trying to get to verena. "please, let-" "move kid." another officer pushed matt back.

"please, please, let me see her." tears were falling down matt's cheeks.

"let me have a goodbye to my boyfriend, please?" she asked the female officer. she pulled verena away, and out of matt's sight. matt struggled against the officer, trying to get to his girlfriend.

as verena was being pulled away, she heard matt, "please, stop, let me see her..." and his voice drowned out.

later

she was dressed in this ugly, orange uniform, sitting on the concrete floor. she was patted down and everything, her belongings getting taken away.

she heard that she was in here for a week. for attacking a police officer, like the fuck?

she doesn't know what time it is, if she has a bail, nothing.

later

"kameron. visitor for you!" the female officer yelled. she begrudgingly follows the lady out, and sits in the chair.

matt is on the other side of the glass.

"rena, are you okay?" matt asked.

"i just wanna get bailed out." she mumbled.

"bail's $5,000, and i have to stay in here for a week, since i'm a minor." she said again.

"i'll pay-"

"matt it's fine."

"but-"

"okay, i guess." she mumbled.

"okay, how did you get arrested?" he asked.

"oh."

"rena, please?"

"no offense to anything at all, but they accused me of manipulating and killing my best friend!"

"you didn't though, right?" matt asked, uneasiness in his voice.

"i didn't because i was calling you!"

"then, why did they arrest you?" he asked.

"i attacked an officer."
