Summary: Steven and Spinel have a huge Algebra test coming up, and to them there's no way of passing it without a study session with each other. As reluctant to study as Spinel is, there may be a way she can avoid the whole thing--and it leads to quite a turn of events.

Finally, Monday was over. It seemed to have dragged on forever, much like every week when teachers think it's right to assign 15 assignments in one class due the next day. Sadly, Monday also meant new Algebra strategies to learn, as well as a new test sooner or later. This was the case today; a test for Algebra would be given on Friday and given it being the hardest class in high school (right after pre-calculus and calculus), they had the week to perfect the skills.

Near impossible, right?

Definitely, but surely that would be no problem with a little daily study time. Though there's an 8/10 chance you'll still fail cause we're all dumbasses in one way or another. But of course, that wasn't going to stop Steven and Spinel from acing it. Both of them had made plans to meet at Steven's house for a daily study session mainly because Pearl, Garnet, and Amethyst wouldn't be home for their own reasons. That and Spinel didn't really feel like heading home, she knew no one would bother helping her other than Steven.

"This is complete bullshit. I'm never gonna use this stuff in my life and yet here I am, wasting my precious seconds trying to work out whatever the hell circumference and radius is." Spinel groaned exaggerately, Steven chuckling from beside her.

"Hey, you wanna become an actress someday, they might ask you something about diameter or something. Better to be safe than sorry." He encouraged, only for her to roll her eyes at his response.

"If they ask me about that then that's how I know I shouldn't be there." She muttered as they finally made it to his beach house. Steven used his key to open it and allowed the girl to go in first. She shoved a hand in her leather jacket pocket while taking a moment to take in the inside. She hadn't really been here, much like Steven never really went to her place. This was pretty simple to say the least.

"So," she started. "Are ya folks home?"

Steven shook his head. "No, it's just us. But I'm sure they wouldn't mind me bringing a guest over, especially for study reasons. Come on, I'll show you my room."

Spinel shrugged and started following him up, where she hopped onto his bed and opened her Algebra book. Honestly to her math in general was eye aids--she couldn't see why Steven liked it so much. Then again he was the reason she was going the Honors diploma, and he hasn't let her down yet. That's just how good of a friend he was to her. "Ok, so about that diameter and radio-"

"Radius."

"Fine, about that diameter and radius thing, how do we find the diameter and shit? All of this looks like a bunch of cancer to me." Spinel complained, staring at the problems in the book.

"Well, you know radius is just half the diameter. If you know the radius, double it and that'll give you the diameter. That part's easy." Her counterpart explained with ease. "The main thing we needa do is finding area and circumference. We have the radius, so the equation would be C= --"

He was interupted by Spinel rolling on her back and groaning once more. "This is so boring! Can't we watch a movie or somethin'?"

"Spinel, you're barely pulling up a C in Algebra, I'm pretty sure a movie isn't gonna help pull that up." The young teen reminding her of her slipping grades. "And besides, you're the one that asked for this whole study thing."

"Well I was in a moment of vulnerability, Stevie..." she pouted. "And when I say study session, I meant movie time. And the teach' won't mind if I fail another test by a couple extra points. Though..." She rolled back on her stomache, smirking. "It's cute you're concerned about me failing."

'Step 1. Try to distract me from the important stuff'

"I'm more concerned about you repeating 10th grade, thank you very much. Your whining won't get us anywhere."

"I whine because studying is BORING!" Spinel whined like a child, making Steven blush a little. It was pretty cute how she did it. But then she gasped once she had an idea and smiled at him. "How bout this; For every...let's say...10 problems I do, we get half an hour of movie time, huh? That way we can both get what we want! " Sure, it wasn't what he expected, but if this would get his reluctant friend to do what she needs to, he couldn't complain.

After giving Steven her cutest puppy dog eyes (as well as mentally begging), Steven finally gave in and agreed to the whole thing. Spinel gave him a tight hug to celebrate her victory. Honestly he still wasn't used to this; her manipulating him so she gets what she wants, using her little doggy eyes, and better yet....her warm and comforting hugs. He really didn't mind, though sometimes they were overly tight. But how soft it was--how warm it was--made up for it big time.

'Stop it Steven, this is your best friend-' Steven scolded himself mentally, breathing a sigh of relief when she finally let him go. For the next hour he tutored her, showing her how to find the area of a circle, diameter, and when to use 3.14 as pi. Frequently she'd ask questions, some repeated, but he didn't mind. At least he knew she was getting a better understanding of the whole thing. Though Steven suspected Spinel was tryna stall by asking dumb questions like "Is it called pi because pies are shaped like circles?" or "Why do we needa know the area of a circle, like come on, it's round!".

"Movie time!" Spinel chirped as she quickly shut her book and turned on the TV, heading to Netflix. Those 10 problems went by fast. "So what are we watchin? The Conjuring? Single Moms Club? DogCopter?"

Steven chuckled at her amusement. "Whatever you want. But remember, only 30 minutes."

Oblivious, Spinel clicked on the first interesting movie she saw. "Wrong Turn it is! I've heard good things about this movie, glad I can finally watch it with you." She kicked her Algebra book a good distance from her and leaned on Steven for support. "It's supposed to be a romance-horror, if you're into those."

"I think they're alright. As long as the horror doesn't outwiegh the romance..." Spinel snickered at Steven's nervousness. He wasn't the type for horror- that was Spinel's gig. He winced once she playfully punched him in the shoulder. "Ow-!"

"Don't worry ya big pussy, your hero Spinel is here to protect ya from the big munsters~" She teased playfully. She noticed him turn away with a blush on his face. "Oh come on, I'm just messin' with ya. For what it's worth, there aren't that many jumpscares."

Cap.

The movie started with the classic jumpscare screen, Spinel looking attentively at it with an excited grin on her face while Steven gulped. A skrrt sound was heard followed by a crash during the black screen. That's when the movie officially started. There looked to be about 5% romance in the whole movie altogether. Hopefully there would be a girl being saved by a guy sometime during a tender moment.

In this scene, there are a few college students packing bags into a car.

"You know that girl right there, Steven?" Spinel called while pointing to an olive-toned female with dark brown hair. "She looks like she's gonna be a bitch, I just know it."

"I dunno, she looks pretty nice." He replied, though he was more glad there wasn't much of a scare here. "If anything the girl beside her is the bitchy one."

She scoffed. "What, Steph? No way, she's too much of a simp for Adrien. Yasmin's the bitchy one here."

"I guess we'll see then."

After about 15 minutes, the characters were driving down a road and it was about 6 in the movie. Honestly it didn't seem too bad so far. Though the duo was still mentally debating over who was bitchier in the movie; Steph or Yasmin.

"It's Yasmin, Steven. I bet my nonexistent dad she's gonna be the first one to get killed, it's always the bitch that gets killed first." Spinel argued while the movie was still playing.

He shook his head in disagreement. "Steph got pissed off when she figured out Yas had the map upside down. That's definitely a trait of a bitch."

"Pff, no way. Yas was giving her the death glare. And if we were going to an awesome place and you had the map the wrong way this whole time I would get pissed off at you too, dollface."

"Ok, but isn't Yasmin the one who kept it cool when Steph was delaying their whole ride because she kept forgetting shit?"

"Oh please," She scoffed and rolled her eyes at him. "Just watch. I bet Steph's gonna leave Yasmin stranded when they face a killer or somethin'. That's what bitchy girls do. Like come on," she faced him with curiousity in her eyes. "If me and you were together for whatever reason, but then we heard something rustling in the bushes and BAM! a super hot and dangerous killer appears with a bloody chainsaw. Would you run for your life and leave me behind OR would you wait for me to catch up and risk us both dying together?"

Now that was a question he knew would test their friendship...or relationship for that matter. Or maybe she was just asking that out of the moment, just a harmless one at that. And here he goes again, turning a simple question into a whole exam. God what is she doing to him?

"I mean, you run faster than me so I'm more concerned about if you'll leave me or not, heh," he nervously responded, though it wasn't like he was lying.Spinel could outrun him by a longshot. Her athletic ability is one of the unique traits she has...well, other than the fact she can easily manipulate him into doing things, such as this whole movie thing. Were they past the 30 minute break or has it been longer?

"Of course I wouldn't bail on ya, you're literally the only friend I have." Spinel answered with some hidden appreciation in her voice. "I'd rather us both die than me living the rest of this pathetic life without my buddy by my side. Besides, what's with the running? We can both tag-team that guy!"

Steven smiled at her. "Yeah, we could. But if we die?"

"Then we die. Though there would be one thing I'd regret not doing if we both ended up in a situation like that..."

He tilted his head, curious by Spinel's sudden change of mood. Honestly this was one of the rare times she went from 100% cocky to 45% cocky, which the rest was fronted by her bashfulness that he thought didn't exist. "Huh? Whaddya me-"

Before he could finish, Spinel had already put him into a surprise kiss by grabbing him by his collar.

Her hugs were warm.

Her voice was sweet.

But her kisses were toxic.

It was like time froze for the two of them. The only thing that seemed to be in motion was Steven's pounding heart. It wasn't like he was scared, or well, he was a little nervous at most, but it was a good nervous. Spinel had made the first move. At least that spared him from doing it himself, then having her question their friendship, break the whole relationship thing and never, ever, see each other again type thing.

All that worrying about his lovestruck-crush? For nothing.

Steven soon fell into it and pulled her close by the waist, in the most platonic manner obviously. But was it really that platonic? After all, he was kissing his best friend. And to add on to that, she did it first. Was this just a friendly kiss, a kiss that meant she wanted to be something more or just the trifling game of "Friends with Benefits"? Whichever it was, it didn't matter. All that matter was the toxic, yet so alluring, taste of the goth, and the feelings the both of them were giving off with it.

After a few seconds they parted and needless to say, Steven was speechless, and that worried her a bit. "Stevie?"

No answer. She waved a hand in front of his face.

"Yo, Earth to Universe. What are ya gonna do, sue me for sexual harassment?"

The only response she got was Steven's face turning into a pinkish blush color, to which she snickered at. "There isn't a day when ya don't blush like crazy. Are you just filled with Blush cells are somethin'?"

Steven rubbed his neck nervously, though he was still smitten. "I-I guess so..." He glanced at the movie;3 of the characters were at a campsite, 1 of which looked as if they had seen some shit. "Hey, Spinel?"

"Yes?"

"Did that...kiss...mean anything? At all?"

A deafening silence filled the room. Waiting for her response felt like agony. Honestly, he felt like a desperate whiny bitch.

"It meant...." Spinel finally sighed. "It meant something I can't put into words, it's just unwordable."

"But...it did imply we had a little something, right?" Yup. Totally desperate. "That wasn't just a "We're just friends" kind of kiss?"

"I mean, I don't know...like I said, I can't put it into words. I get it if it made you uncomfortable--"

"It didn't! It made me feel far from uncomfortable. And..I was actually glad you did it. Really. And this may sound dumb but, I kinda want it to happen again..." God, this was awkward. What a wonderful way to give a confession. Spinel was probably getting a kick out of this. "In other words...I..."

Spinel put a finger onto his lips to shush him. There was a sort of glisten in her eyes.

"Don't say another word, snookums." She told him, giving him another one of her oh so wonderful kisses. This time, Steven didn't worry so much over it now. He just sunk into it.

So much for studying.

Eh, Algebra is ass anyways.

Spinel was leaning more onto the teen, putting them into a compromising position. Not that they cared. The only thing they cared about was that they were alone and could do anything they-

"Hey Steven we're ho-WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!"

Both of them looked up with wide eyes, Steven pushing Spinel off as quickly as possible, to which she obliged. She grabbed her unused Algebra book.

"Yeah I gotta go I think my nonexistent dad's calling me-" she quickly said pushing past a shocked Pearl, but not before giving a wink to Steven. "See ya later, Church Boy."

Steven gave her a good-bye wave, a temporary lovestruck moment. But that moment quickly ended once he made eye-to-eye with Pearl, who was giving him the most Karen look she could muster.

"Heeeyyy Pearl-" he gulped. "See we were just studying-"

"Save it. We're gonna have a talk, Mr." She said sternly. "A long one."

Even through that whole lecture; talking about how he's too young, that Pearl isn't gonna raise any grandkids at her age, that he should use protection, that sort of thing, there was still one person he had on his mind, and that was the person that made this weird lecture worth it.

His new girlfriend, Spinel.
