I'm starting to think that the gems and the tech they use resembling viruses is more than just a coincidence.

Look at the bacteriophage below-

It resembles the gem drill-

And Blue Diamond's transport carriage-

A bacteriophage is a virus that can not reproduce naturally like gems. They infect and replicate into a host and force the host into making more of the virus much like the Gems try to do to the Earth and did to other Planets. The host then dies completely and the virus moves to another host, like how the gems would destroy earth's resources and move to the next place to conquer and replicate.

The gems are like viruses.
