Seconds
Eyeball stops in her tracks. She sighs. "The Gem War started. Meanwhile, I caused the death of two Gems that I didn't even know. Yet it was my fault that they were shattered so soon. And not long after, Pink Diamond was shattered as well."
She sits down. "All I could do after that, was blame myself for everything. That I played a hand in Pink Diamond's death. That I caused Rose Quartz to start the rebellion. That I caused the Gem War to erupt. Back then, that was everything.
"I fought in the war for Earth because I wanted to fix everything. I had to find Rose Quartz and finish her off. Once and for all. This was my closure. Instead, things only got worse. I became the one who was shattering Gems then."
I sigh. "Eyeball, I had no idea. I'm really sorry."
"Now you understand. But I know what's going through your head. I want to help you. I want to save you from your fate. You just seem to mean everything to me now."
She looks away. "Is there something wrong with that?" I put my arm around her. "No. Not really." She faces me. "I don't want things to end like this. If you leave now, what would I do without you?" I tear up, squeezing her hand. She doesn't flinch.
"Having second thoughts?"
"I-I don't know."
"Hey. It's okay. Whatever path you choose, I'll understand. I just wish that we could get to know each other a little more. You know those stories when the person kills him or herself and the friend never had the chance to say goodbye?"
I nod. "Yeah."
"Well, at least I got that chance." She pulls me in for a hug. I can feel her tears sliding down on my shirt. "Please, do what you feel is right. I just want you to be happy again. If you leave, I promise I won't tell anyone.
"I'll make it look like no one ever knew you. But that's your choice to make. Not mine." She lets go of me and I give her a sad smile. "Thanks." I give her a hug back. It feels good. I close my eyes and let the tears slide down my cheeks.
Eyeball gently pats and rubs my back. I wince. "What's wrong?"
"Nothing. It's just...my back. It's very sensitive."
"Sorry." We slowly pull away. "So what do you want to do now?"
"Maybe...I'll give it another day before I decide."
"Are you sure you want to take that chance?"
"Yeah. But tomorrow, I just want it to be you and I." She blushes. "S-Sure." She smiles, scratching the back of her neck. At that moment, without warning, I peck her lips. I pull away as her eye shines.
I blush. "Uh...sorry. That was an accident." She smirks. "An accident?" She folds her arms. "Yeah. I gotta go. Good night, Eyeball."
"Okay. Good night, Amethyst." I head back to the barn, covering my face.
"Oh geez. First Pearl, then Peridot, now her? What is wrong with me?" I chuckle. I hear something clear it's throat. "Amethyst." I turn around, smiling. But as soon as I see who it really is, I gasp with the exact opposite reaction.
"Ruby." I gulp. "Oh no."
"Oh! Yes." She starts walking towards me. I turn my back on her and I start running. "You are so gonna get it!" I keep running towards the barn, panting. Once I get inside, I slam the door shut and I try to lock the door.
Ruby swings it open, sending me flying into a pile of hay. I yelp as my back hits the hay, hard. Ruby rushes in towards me. I try to get up, but my back hurts so much, I can't even attempt to get back up in time.
Ruby lunges into me and she pins me down. "I know what you just did. You really think that this is all just your world? I live here too you know! First Pearl, then Steven, and now Peridot?! What the heck, Amethyst!"
"Uh, for your information, I didn't do the last one!" Ruby summons her gauntlet. "Don't lie to me." She slams it into my cheek. "Eloc may be the one telling you to do all this stuff, but you're the the one carrying out his demands!"
She punches my other cheek. "If you really cared about these Gems, you would've never shattered or killed them nonetheless!"
"But I did care!"
"Well what about Pearl?! Didn't you care about her?!"
I look away from her to face the bubble with Pearl's shards alongside Peridot's. "Are you proud of yourself for what you've done?! Hanging up those shards like they're your trophies?!" That really hit home.
