Blame
The motorboat sits on the water as the sun sets for the night. Peridot sighs as she lays down on the boat, staring up into the stars above us. "I gave you and Lapis a single job. What was it?"
I facepalm and I groan. "To stop the hurricane from advancing."
"That's right. While you two were doing whatever, I was trying to evacuate everyone. I got to the mayor and I warned him about the hurricane.
"Then the flood just rushed into the building. The windows broke from the increased water pressure and then...it was a complete massacre." She looks away. "What did you two do to cause that?"
You've gotta be kidding me. Not only did I kill Steven, but I also caused the death of every last resident in Beach City?! I start sobbing and Peridot crawls over next to me. "What did you two do?"
"We...made it into...a game." Peridot glares at me and she facepalms. "ARE YOU..." She huffs and looks away from me. "Why a game, Amethyst?" Her voice sounds strained and frustrated.
I tear up. "I'm sorry."
"Sorry doesn't even cut it anymore."
"Are they all really gone?"
"It's hard to tell, actually. We don't know if there are any remaining survivors and whatnot.
"However, the only way they could've survived is through boat. No one can just flee from Beach City and expect the hurricane not to follow them. Even if they did get a boat, no one would've been able to make it."
"So no survivors?"
"There was also a bunker however. Some people could've realized what's been going down and decided to go into the bunker to survive the storm.
"Honestly, it's hard to tell. We're just hoping that we didn't lose too many innocent people." She looks up at the sky. "So why a game?"
"It was Lapis. She said that taking control of the storm was going to be boring.
"Yeah. We could've done it. But we lost because of our rivalry."
"And now, hundreds of innocent lives will be lost."
"We also included a bet too." Peridot facepalms. "Of course! Why not?!"
She looks back at me. "Let me guess. The bet was about me, wasn't it?" "Heh heh. Sort of."
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME!" She's right on top of me now. "And you obviously accepted her challenge?!"
I stratch the back of my head. "Yep. Pretty much." Peridot's glare intensifies. "Amethyst, I'm not blind. I saw what you did earlier with Eyeball." She tears. "She cared about you above everyone else!"
"Yeah? So?"
"So?! Why did you reject her?!"
"I cared about others more."
"What...is others?! There is no others! Amethyst, you were lucky. She came up to you and you just turned her down!"
Her voice starts shaking and trembling. "She was only trying to help you! She loved you! SHE could've been your second chance! Not me or your dead rival!" I glare at her and my jaw drops.
"Excuse me?! Dead RIVAL?!"
"You never cared about her sooner. You just came up to her at the very last possible second and THEN you confessed! Did you seriously think that it was going to last?!"
"YES!" Silence. "I thought it would. All of the fights that we had. All of the arguments, everything. I just wanted to come to terms with her. But as we talked, I just...wanted her to do more than just forgive me."
Tears stream down my eyes. "That first kiss...I didn't make it! She did love me!" I choke on my tears. "But Eloc...that...piece of dirt! He just..." I stand up and I turn around to face her. "LOOK AT ME!"
Peridot looks down. "THIS is what he made me! A psychopath, a monster, a cold-hearted soul living in your barn! It's not my fault that any of this happened! It's his!" My fists shake.
"And I just want to kill him! I want to end him!" I pull out my whip. "BY ENDING ME!" Peridot gasps. She quickly gets up and she lunges into me before we crash down into the water.
