Chapter 11 (Crash course)

(Y/n)'s P.O.V.

My house really wasn't too far away from the temple but it seemed the farther I tried to drive there, the more trouble I was having. Basically, to move the car, I was putting my foot on the break more than I needed to. The car was rather fast and would suddenly pull off if I kept my feet on the gas too long and so my other foot wasn't to far from the break. Over and over again, I was repeating a pattern. pressing the gas and then the break every feet or so. It was not my intention but after all I really couldn't drive. The car jerked along, causing Amethyst and my seatbelt to lock in place, holding us in our seats.

(Y/n): Aren't you bothered by all this awkward moving?

I asked Amethyst with concern by she only laid back in her seat with her eyes closed and unfazed by my horrible driving skills as she hummed to the music playing on the radio.

Amethyst: Nope, this feels like more of a ride than anything Mr. Smiley has at the amusement park.

Amethyst said wholeheartedly. She didn't relax to much since she knew she also had to be my second pair of eyes. I didn't know how it came to this but I found myself, driving on the boardwalk. People hurriedly scooted out of the way as I shouted constant apologies.

(Y/n): Sorry, Lars!

I called out of the open window as Lars dodged the truck.

Lars: (Y/n), what are you doing?!

He yelled but I could really stop the truck any more. I couldn't answer him as the tuck kept on going forward. Meanwhile, as we drove up the boardwalk, Kiki suddenly walked out of Fish Stew Pizza. She must have been going on break before she saw my car coming towards their restaurant.

Kiki: What the-(Y/n) is that you?!

She said in surprise.

Kiki: Oh no, not again. Please don't crash into the shop, Dad is going to flip out!

She said with concern as she tried directing me to change to the other direction by flagging me with her hands. I managed to turn the wheel in time without hitting anything.

Amethyst's P.O.V.

It's a good thing we didn't crash into that place. No doubt Pearl would blame that on me. Regardless if (Y/n) was seeing this as mayhem, I was actually having a good time but then the car suddenly shook as if we were going down something. I looked out the window to see (Y/n) had gotten off the board walk and was now driving on the beach. No one was in sight so I got an idea.

Amethyst: Let me try.

I said excitedly as I unclipped my seatbelt.

(Y/n): Aren't you a bit too short to drive?

(Y/n) questioned but I was already moving into the drivers seat. My body suddenly blocked (Y/n) sight of what was in front of him, causing the car to swerve slightly.

(Y/n): Amethyst, be careful.

I heard (Y/n) say as I was now sitting on his lap in front of the wheel. I heard him sputter a little as some of my hair went into his face and mouth. Without warning, I forced my foot on the gas.  wanted to go faster and soon the car was accelerating forward, it kind of reminded me of the time we were traveling at light speeds when we were on the Ruby ship in space. However, no sooner had the car bolted onward, the temple came into sight suddenly. (Y/n) who had managed to clear his view of my hair had took a hand to tuck my head down as he took control of the wheel to stop the truck. He slammed his foot on the break and the car screech to a stop but not immediately. The truck was slowing down gradually but I didn't know if we'd stop in time before we ran into the temple. As we got closer and closer, Garnet had suddenly walked out of the house, she saw the dark blue truck coming her way but instead of moving out of the way, she stood in the path.

Amethyst: What is she doing?

I asked as I blew the trucks horn to try and tell Garnet to move but she didn't. She still stood there as the truck got closer and closer. (Y/n) and I closed our eyes until we felt the car slow down all the way before jerking us with a force that caused me to flip upside down against (Y/n).

(Y/n): O_O....your butts in my face.

(Y/n) said with a muffled voice before he picked me up to sit me up right. In the passenger seat, I saw we had managed to stop in time before completely crashing in to Garnet who was literally a few centimeters away in front of the now parked car. I immediately rushed out of the car to hug her.

Amethyst: I'm so sorry Garnet. I didn't mean to-

I began to say before I was interrupted by Pearl's voice.

Pearl: WHAT ON EARTH?!

Her voice echoed as I looked up at her and Steven from palm of the temple were she was still doing laundry. I then looked back at Garnet, trying to give her an apologetic smile before a feeling of guilt washed over me as I felt Garnet's eyes on me.

Garnet: Don't worry about it, I knew you'd stop in time.

Amethyst: You mean....your not mad that we almost ran you over?

Garnet: No, it wouldn't have mattered anyway. I've been hit with even bigger things before.

Garnet said as she pushed up her visors. Meanwhile, Pearl came running down from the temple with a very horrified and confused look on her face. Steven was following right after her

Pearl: I knew you were behind this Amethyst! You could have destroyed the temple and the both of you could have been seriously injured! Why do you always do things without thinking about the consequences and-

Amethyst: Yeah, yeah yeah, scold me later, just come with us first.

I interrupted her before summoning my whip to tie her up before gesturing to (Y/n) to come help me "good guy kidnap" Pearl. (Y/n) reluctantly unbuckled his seatbelt and left the car to come over before the two of us picked up Pearl and chucked her into the truck. I also noticed he was admiring my whipe and so I let him check it out in the car.

Steven: I wanna go on another joy ride.

Steven said as he ran towards the car but Garnet stopped him in his tracks.

Garnet: I'd feel better if (Y/n) learned how to drive before you go anywhere with him.

Garnet said before Steven awed in disappointment.

Steven: But I can make a bubble shield around the car so that (Y/n) won't hit anything while he's learning. Think of it as a magical airbag for the entire car.

Steven pleaded with Garnet who didn't take long to reply.

Garnet: Hmmm....ok.

I watched happily as Steven joyfully took the backseat of the car alongside Pearl. The car was very spacious and could easily fit a maximum of 8 people, each with their own seatbelt. I was going to ask garnet if she wanted to tag along but she disappeared all of a sudden. Meanwhile, I turned up the music in the car to drown out Pearl who was nagging and fussing in the back of the car. (Y/n) and I chuckled to each other before giving each other a high five. This is just like the joy ride that Pearl, Steven and I took not too long ago. Even now this reminds me when I used to ride along with Vidalia. Though most of the ride was going to be a lesson, I knew an awesome day was ahead of us.
