"Yo, you're home late." Rena says as Amy walks through the door. "Ugh, I know. I got caught up in a fight I never signed up for."
"What do you mean? Who did you fight?!" Rena asks. "Nah dude, not who, what. It was some sort of monster." Amy replied.

"No fair!! I've always wanted to be a superhero!" Rena complains. "You can trade me; I never signed up for this!" Amy says, throwing the amethyst at Rena.
"What do I do with this?" she asks. "You say something like Precure gem glow." Amy mumbles.

"Precure, gem glow!" Rena shouts, but nothing happened. "Is it broken? Or maybe you didn't get the phrase right.." Rena mumbles.
"Yes I did, watch!" Amy says, grabbing the amethyst. "Precure, gem glow!" she says, and transformed into Cure Amethyst.

"Woah!" Rena says. "I don't get it! Why did it work for me but not you?!" Amy says, detransforming. "Maybe because that's yours. If I'm gonna transform, maybe the gem has to be given to me by fate, not by a sister who doesn't want hers." Rena says.
"Ugh, this is so lame! Why am I stuck with this..." Amy mumbles, putting the amethyst in her bag.

"I can't believe you, Amy!!" Rena shouts, making Amy jump a little. "You get powers that I could only dream of, and all you do is complain about it?! That's awful!!" Rena says, storming off to her room.
"Jeez.." Amy mutters, though Rena's words got to her more than she'd ever admit.

<the next morning>

Rena left for school without Amy, still mad at her from yesterday. As she was walking, a monster appeared right in front of her. Luckily, Steven was there.

"Look out!" He shouts, pushing her out of the way. "Woah.. You're the one who gave my sister her powers, aren't you?!" Rena says.
"What?" Steven asks, slightly taken off guard as he puts his shield up. "No! I mean, I don't give magic to anyone; they're born with it. All I do is-" he grunts a little, struggling to keep the monster's attacks at bay.

"All I do is help them unleash it-" he says, thudding to the ground and dropping the ruby. It lands at Rena's feet, and she reaches for it.
When she picks it up, it glows, and she notices. "Rena-" Steven starts. "I know. Precure, gem glow!" Rena shouts, and transforms into Cure Ruby.

"How did you know how to transform?" Steven asks. "Amy told me when she was trying to give up her gem." Rena says.
"Of course Amy would try something like that.." Cure Pearl says, arriving just in time to get the monster off of Steven.

When the monster tried to slash at Ruby, she grabbed its arm, and it started burning. "Woah, cool, I've got fire powers!" she says.

To defeat the monster, Cure Pearl and Ruby combine their powers into a flaming sword.

"I can't believe that girl. She was chosen to be a warrior and she neglects her responsibility!" Paulina says after detransforming.
Rena detransforms as well. "You're talking about my sister, aren't you..? I know, I told her that earlier. I mean, she was granted such amazing powers, and all she does is whine about them!"

Steven sighs. "Maybe she'll come around... I wish I could help fight instead of being the stupid defense.."
Paulina looks at him. "Oh, Steven.. You're important enough as you are to the team. You can protect us if we don't see something.." she says, smiling encouragingly.

Steven smiles a little. "Thanks Paulina." he says. "Come on, we're probably late for school." Paulina says. Steven nods and the three head to school.

"What took you so long, shrimp?" Amy says to Rena. "I'm taller than you. Also, for your information, we were attacked." Rena says.
"Psh, whatever. Paulina handled it, obviously." Amy says, rolling her eyes. "Actually, your sister helped me." Paulina says, crossing her arms. Amy looks at her and then at Rena, seeming shocked. "You... You have magic?" she asks.

Rena nods. "Fire magic. I seriously don't understand why you only complain." she says. "I agree. You were chosen, Amy." Paulina says. "I never wanted to be!" Amy shouts.
"But you were! Please, without you, the world is in great danger! We need all 8 Precure warriors to fight them!!" Steven pleads.

".... Whatever dude." Amy mumbles, walking away. Rena sighs. "Don't worry Steven... It'll be okay.." Paulina says.

<later that day>

"Steven!!" Sally says, sitting next to him during lunch. Steven looks at her. "Oh, hey Sally. How are you?" he asks.
"Pretty good! Kinda wondering why you were so late to class this mornin though. That's not like you." she says, playing with her pink heart necklace.

"Yeah, sorry, ran into complications- that's a pretty necklace. Where's you get it?" Steven asks as he ate his lunch. "What, this old thing? My aunt gave it to me for my 8th birthday. She said it was a spinel and it was really valuable so I can't lose it-" Sally says.

"It's so.. Perfectly cut, it's pretty.." Steven says. "Awe, really? I love this thing, I almost never take it off- unless I have to, of course. By the way, did you hear we're getting a new student tomorrow?" Sally says, smiling.

"I didn't; who is it?" Steven asks, finishing his lunch. "Her name is Sophie Myria-" Sally responded. Steven looked shocked. "You mean the princess?! No way-!!"
"I know right?! It's gonna be so fun! Gosh, I hope I can be her friend!!" Sally says, standing up to dump her tray.

"The princess, here.. W-wow.." Steven mutters as he does the same.
