"You know that case wasn't all that bad. Your client was doomed from the beginning. It's actually amazing how long you kept your argument going." Yellow attempted to argue. Blue just sighed, and turned her attention to one of her hologram charts, planning for her next case, which wasn't planned for another few weeks.

This had been her third client in the past two hundred years that she failed. It was just a horrible sense of defeat when she saw the panic and fear in their eyes before they were dragged off to whatever punishment had been bestowed upon them. It was her job to make sure that didn't happen, but it was happening anyways, and far more often than she was happy with.

She could always do better. Yellow was always at the top of their game, as many of Yellow Diamond's gems were. For Blue, the situation was a little different. Blue Diamond had been so distracted by Pink's shattering that the entire system seemed to fall apart. Blue Diamond would go missing for months while she visited Pink's colonies and ships. Blue's entire queendom seemed to be under a trance of sorrow. Without their Diamond to rule them efficiently, the entirety of Blue Diamond's queendom seemed to follow her footsteps. They all seemed to go silent and sorrowful after Blue Diamond realized what had happened.

It had been like this for a long time.

Yellow Diamond's gems had been strict and uniform ever since Pink's shattering. After all, since Pink was gone and Blue seemed to be drowning in her own sorrow, only Yellow Diamond was really left to rule. She made sure that her queendom was alert and ready to protect Homeworld, while also leading the other Diamond's people. It was an incredible feat of leadership, but one could only wonder how long Yellow Diamond could keep up with this juggling act.

Yellow Diamond had kept calm under grief. Her gems modeled themselves after her. Smug, powerful, and smart. Blue's gems weren't the opposite, but they were close to it. They were quiet, thoughtful, and mourning gems. After thousands of years of sorrow, it felt like they had been formed like that. Just gems, grieving for a Diamond who wasn't their own. Blue actually had a theory that most of the gems weren't mourning for Pink Diamond, but for Blue Diamond herself. After all, there was little they could do to bring back the shattered Diamond, but the fact that Blue Diamond seemed to be cracked from grief was heartbreaking.

"I could have done better, Yellow." Blue muttered, slouching over even more. "I could have been more like you. You never lose a case."

"No. The gem was a war criminal! A Crystal Gem! There's no way that you could have kept them from being persecuted!" Yellow cried out, flinging her arms up. "Listen, Blue."

"I'm listening." Blue muttered, turning her head so she was looking at the ground. Blue tapped her foot and crossed her arms.

"No you aren't." Yellow got down on one knee, and gently cupped Blue's cheek so she was looking at her. "Listen. This case was nothing more than a set up. It's just tradition that everyone gets a trial. Not everyone deserves a trial. You did your best. Sometimes these gems don't even stand a chance. It's not your fault, it's not anyone's fault besides their own."

Blue nodded, but looked away. Yellow could only look and stare as the gem she loved seemed to fall into a deeper and deeper sadness, unusual even for a Blue gem.

"I love you, Yellow. There's nothing that could possibly change that. Now, let's go. Some fresh air could do you some good. Maybe we can work on you next case together, huh?" Yellow held out a hand, and waited for Blue to respond.

"That sounds nice."
