Soft Lapidot Fluff (bc y'all deserve to be happy)

"Here?" Lapis asked, barely hearing Peridot over the whistling wind in her ears. Flying with Peridot was much more difficult than expected, and she stopped and hovered in the air, desperately trying to keep upright with the extra weight on her back. "Peridot, is this the right place?"

"YES GET ME DOWN ON THE GROUND!" Peridot didn't like heights very much. Quickly, Lapis flew down to the ground, with Peridot clinging onto her shoulders and shrieking all the way down. She landed a little off, and stumbled, but managed to keep on her feet. Peridot scrambled off her back, taking deep breaths. She dropped the picnic basket onto the ground.

"Here? Really?" Lapis looked around. The view was amazing, she had to admit...

"Yes! It has the best view in all of Beach City?" Peridot's voice was getting a little higher than usual, and it meant that she was excited. It was funny to watch, to say the least.

"How would you know?"

"Well, after you would fall asleep I would go out to different locations and watch the view for a couple of hours. I narrowed it down to a few dozen, and this was the one that I thought you would like the most!" Lapis nodded, absorbing the information for a moment. They were on a sort of hill that slowly sloped down to face down at Beach City.

"Is that why it took a month for you to plan this date?"

Peridot proudly opened the basket, pulled out the pink blanket, and tried to spread it on the ground. The wind quickly disagreed and blew the blanket directly into Peridot's face.

"Yes." She still sounded very proud. Lapis had to stifle a laugh while Peridot tried to push the blanket off of her face. It quickly escalated to the point where Peridot had given up and was wildly flinging her arms, screeching, trying to rip the soft blanket off her face. Lapis had to help her.

"My God, you are the worst girlfriend possible."

"But I did plan this date." Peridot said, opening the picnic basket and smoothing down the blanket angrily.

"What did the blanket ever do to you?" Lapis wondered aloud, laughing.

"The blanket attacked me, Lapis." She quickly unpacked the basket, like she had practiced this date before. She probably had, since she was always prepared for anything that was related to dating. Lapis laughed, and sat down on the blanket. The afternoon was warm enough for it to be pleasant. Lapis laid stomach-down on the blanket and basked in the summer sun. It was like having someone's hand on you, so warm and comforting.

Gentle winds playfully ruffled Lapis's hair. Their dates weren't often for learning about each other. Their dates were about enjoying each other's presences.

Peridot slowly worked on a flower crown. She twisted their stems together to make a crown of playfully colored flowers.

The afternoon slowly cooled, and the pleasant sunlight was replaced with soothing evening air. Lapis flipped onto her back, and sat up. The sun was just starting to set.

Every time she watched it, it always changed. Some days it was more orange, sometimes it was a lighter color, it was never same. Nothing on earth was the same, not even for a single day. Every day things shifted and changed, and every day there was something new to see.

Today, it was all light colors. The sky was still light blue, but as you looked closer to the setting sun, soft pinks fazed in. Playful oranges surrounded the sun before it disappeared over the horizon. When Lapis looked over at Peridot, she was staring at the sunset, with her eyes fixed at the very center, where all the colors collided, and her mouth slightly open, like she wanted to say something about it.

Lapis felt the same way.

The colors faded away, and the sky changed quickly, like the transition between night and day had to be rushed. The light blue sky shifted colors, and soon it was no longer the day's sky, but the night's.

The colors of the night's sky was equally beautiful. At first glance, it looked all black, but as Lapis looked closer, there were tinges of blues and purples that barely showed through. Even a hint of pink around the edges of the stars.

The stars.

They were always a surprise. First, you were searching for one. Then, you saw the second. Third. Fourth, fifth, and sixth. Slowly, then all at once, and you forget when you lost count.

And suddenly, you were looking at the whole sky of stars.

Silence was all that kept time. Stars tried to outshine each other, sometimes blinking out light.

Silence and beauty.

Lapis reached out.

And Peridot took her hand.
