Lapidot Fluff!!
Loosely based on real events.
~
Peridot was busy tapping away on her keyboard, with her headphones plugged in. Lapis was stretched out lying on the couch. There was maybe three inches of space between Lapis's stretched out form and Peridot's curled up body. It was one of the few days where the Crystals Gems were all out on a mission, and it was them left. Steven had asked them to make sure the house was safe until their arrival. Although Lapis was flattered about how much trust Steven placed on them, it also complicated her plans.
Lapis and Peridot had been dating for nearly three months, and Peridot was never the one to make moves. She had explained many times over that she trusted Peridot to know what she was comfortable with and what she wasn't, but Peridot was always nervous about trying new romantic things. Peridot was understanding, but she was also anxious. She never pushed Lapis to do anything in their relationship, and honestly, if Lapis wanted to she could just sit back and relax. But that wasn't it. Lapis wanted to do unexpected things in their relationship, the problem was that it was always Lapis who had to set up the situation for those things to happen.
Peridot was too hyperaware of everything she did ever since they were officially in a relationship. That included fusion, kissing, or anything that came along with a relationship, in all honesty. It was kind of sweet for Peridot to put so much thought into what Lapis felt, but at the same time it was draining for Lapis to hint at something, and for Peridot to always not make a move on those hints.
It had been nearly two weeks that Lapis had been hinting towards a kiss, and for two weeks Peridot hadn't pick up on the hints. Lapis was torn between thinking that Peridot was an absolute idiot or that she was just too nervous to even suggest anything that might remind her of Jasper.
Peridot was quickly typing away on the keyboard, most likely working on her latest fanfiction about Pining Hearts, or engaging in a ship war. Lapis never felt a particular attraction to the fandom. There were too many people that had too many different opinions, and felt far too eager to destroy another person's ship for no other reason besides it's their notp.
"Hey Peridot?" Lapis asked. Peridot didn't seem to hear, and continued to type, actually even faster now. It was almost impressive. "Peridot!" Lapis stretched out on the couch to nudge her with her foot. Peridot almost jumped, and quickly moved her headphones out of the way.
"What's up?" Peridot paused her music, closed the laptop, and moved it off to one side. It was a small gesture, but a thoughtful one nonetheless. "Did I miss something you said?"
"Nah," Lapis sat up. It felt unprofessional to be lying down when she talked about this for the first time. "So I..." She trailed off. The panic was rising in her a little, and Peridot was waiting for something-anything- to happen.
"Did I do something wrong?" It was evident from the tone of voice that Lapis's lack of communication was worrying.
"No!" Lapis quickly cut in before Peridot really started to panic. "No... I wanted to ask...you...something. Just...Let me think about how to word this."
"Of course, take your time." Peridot said. Despite her words, her tone betrayed that she was still worried. Lapis had to rush if she wanted Peridot not to completely fry her brain thinking.
"I've been thinking about this for a while now- and it's nothing bad! Don't worry!" Lapis reassured even before Peridot even made a move to say anything. She seemed to relax a bit, but only a bit. "Since we've been dating for so long, and you refuse to make any moves, I guess I've just been...Hinting towards a kiss?"
Peridot freezed up, with a blush quickly making it obvious that she wasn't breathing.
"Ar-Are you okay?" Lapis sat up a little more, and scooted towards Peridot a little. Her entire body had tensed, her shoulders looked like they would be cramping up soon, and she had her arms wrapped around her knees.
"Peridot. You could just say no." They snapped her out of the trance.
"No! Let me just...I need to think..."
"It's okay, I'll ask again later-"
"No! I...I guess....If you want to I could. I just haven't....Done that before." Lapis nodded, and turned herself so that she was facing Peridot, and gently raised her hand to touch Peridot's face. Peridot flinched a little at the touch, and Lapis took a moment to wait until she was comfortable. Slowly they started to lean forwar-
The sound of the warp pad.
"Hey guys we're back!"
Peridot shrieked and jumped off of the couch.
