-Amethyst's POV-

I know we've had our disagreements, and I know she used to be a bad gem, but.... I'm in love with her.

To make things clear, I'm talking about Peridot. After she started living in the house with us, I slowly started to like her. I don't show it, but I have a hopeless crush on her, and I don't know what to do about it.

On one hand, I could tell her and she'd feel the same. We could be Ruby and Sapphire with the way we talk to each other.
On the other hand, she could be disgusted by it and not feel the same at all; she'd end up forever hating me and never speak to me again.

So, yeah. I'm a little stressed.

"You look like something's bothering you." I hear a very familiar voice say. I look up to see Peridot, in her new Crystal Gem attire, looking down at me in what could be concern.
She's come so far, I thought. I mean, she went from being a Homeworld gems that worked for Yellow Diamond to a proud member of the Crystal Gems. Even still, I can't confront her about my feelings.

"Oh, hey Peri... Uh... How's it hanging?" I ask to avoid the previous conversation. "How's... What... Hanging?" she asks, obviously confused.
I laugh a little and say, "It means, 'how are you'." "Oh. Then... I am well..." she trails off.

-Peridot's POV-

I got the feeling Amethyst was trying to avoid the topic of her own state of well-being, but what I didn't know is why.
Does she think I'm a clod?! It's not like I was made yesterday; I've been alive for hundreds of years now, maybe thousands. The point being, I know when a gem isn't telling me something (Jasper did this all the time to me).

"Amethyst, are you going to reply to my previous statement? It was addressed to you, you know." I tell her. She looks to the side in what I can only assume is panic, and then looks at me again.
"Wh-what are you talking about? I'm fine, dude." she says. Judging by how she stuttered at the beginning of her sentence, I conclude that she was lying.

"Have I done something to upset you again? Because if so, I'm so-" I start asking. She interrupts me by saying, "No, no, I'm not mad at you." I sigh and sit next to her. "Then what's the matter with you?"
She starts a word but hesitates. She seems to be getting darker pigmentation in her face, as well.

"Are you ill...?" I ask hesitantly. "Sick? Nah, gems don't get sick... Well, I guess in a way, I am. Not the way a human would be, though." she tells me. "What exactly does that mean?" I ask for clarification.

I guess the reason I care so much is because lately, I've felt a strange sensation whenever Amethyst is around. I have rules out the emotions fear, hate, sadness, and envy, but now I'm not sure what that leaves me with. Those are the only emotions I've learned about so far.

"It means I'm... Lovesick, Peri." she says, answering my prior inquiry. I'm not sure what 'lovesick' means, though...

"What does lovesick mean?" I ask. She chuckles and says, "Basically, it means I'm in love." Okay, I'm lost. I've never heard of this place called 'love', and last I checked, we were in Steven's household.

"Where is Love?" I ask Amethyst. She actually laughs this time, making my face feel warm, and says, "Love isn't really a place, it's a feeling. You remember Ruby and Sapphire, right? Their relationship is what you would call love." she explains.

Okay, I think I get it: Amethyst has developed romantic feelings for an unknown entity, and, for some reason, is uncomfortable sharing this information with me.

It caught me off guard when I started feeling the emotion called 'envy'. From what Steven told me about it, the feeling occurs when one being wants something that they don't have in their possession.

"I see... With whom do you share your emotion with, then?" I ask her. "Uh... No one... It's... Kind of a one-sided thing at the moment..." she says. So... Her romantic feelings are unrequited? That must be an indecent experience for her...

It wouldn't be that way if I was the one she wanted...

That thought really startled me. Do I... How do you say... Love Amethyst?
"Have you... Told whoever this is how you feel?" I ask her. She shakes her head negative and says, "I'm... Scared that the person won't like me back..."

"Well, that's just preposterous; if any living being didn't like you, then there has to be something wrong with them." I tell her. She looks at me with a questioning look and says, "Weren't you one of the people who called me 'defective'?"
I feel a sudden sense of guilt and say, "I-i was still in the Homeworld mindset when I said that; I didn't really mean it! I think you're the best, prettiest gem here!"

Oh my stars, I just called Amethyst pretty. Help.

-Amethyst's POV-

Did... Did Peridot really just call me pretty? Does she secretly like me back?
She started blushing and stumbled to find words; all I could do was stare at her in wonder.

"Wh-what I mean is, if anyone turned you down, then they must be the defective ones." she says. That still sounds a lot like she likes me back...
"You want me to tell you?" I ask. Her head perks up and she says, "Yes, I would like to know."

"It's.... You, Peridot. I'm in love with you." I tell her. Her eyes widen slightly and her jaw opens a little. She then blushes and says, "Uh... I.... Reciprocate your feelings." after a long pause.

I feel my eyes light up after she says that and I say, "Really?!" she nods shyly and I hug her (more like pounce on her). She retaliates by wrapping her arms around me as well.
"Hey, Peri... Have you ever... Kissed anyone?" I ask her. Her face turns into one of confusion and she says, "What is a kiss?" I chuckle at her limited knowledge and say, "Allow me to show you?"

She nods curiously and I grab her chin gently. I pull her face up to mine and kiss her. She doesn't do anything at first, which is understandable, as she's never had a kiss before.
She then kissed back with uncertainty, and we pulled away after a minute or so.

"What a strange yet intimate ritual..." she mutters while blushing a deep shade of green.

"If you think that's intimate, then oh boy, do I have some things to show you..."

Aaaaaaaaand done! I really hope this was a little good at least. I'm thinking of doing a Peridot × Pearl one shot for the next chapter.
