The Longest Time Ago ~ Crystal Gems x Reader ~ Finale (Pt 4)
Peridot lifted her body lightly from (Y/n)'d hold.
"A-are we gonna get Lapis now?" She trembled. Pearl nodded.
"Yes, we all ready?" Peridot blinked slowly, nodding carefully.
"Y-yeah...let's get Lazuli." She smiled lightly. (Y/n) raised a brow.
"Lazuli?"
"Well yes, that's her full gem name, Lapis Lazuli." Pearl noted.
"I see." (Y/n) responded, eyeing Peridot in her arms, "You gonna get down or do you still need me to carry you?" Peridot blushed before wiping her tear stained face.
"C-can I stay here? I like being this tall, it reminds me of when Lapis and I would fly together." (Y/n) laughed lightly before nodding.
"Sure thing Peri- I can call you that right?" (Y/n) felt the smaller gem's head nod for an answer before returning to find comfort in (Y/n)'s hold.
"Right, well let's go, the area of the ocean we are going to may have land but I doubt that Lapis would be there." Pearl said in thought.
"Wait, we're going to have to SWIM?!" (Y/n) asked in disbelief, following Pearl as she lead the way to the warp pad, passing the tall plants they had partially destroyed on their entrance.
"Well ideally Peridot and I will go, Lapis could be at the bottom and humans need air to breathe..." she trailed off in thought, "Unless you have a wetsuit and aluminium tank." (Y/n) shook her head.
"I don't...that's an air tank right?"
"Correct, since humans need oxygen to breathe, you would need to take an aluminium tank with you and the wetsuit to withstand cold, high water pressure." Peridot said matter-of-factly, head peaking up for a second.
"Well I don't have those, they cost money- besides, what if Lapis is just...I dunno, next to the ocean on a beach or something?"
"That's just something we are gonna have to hope happens." Pearl said, arms by her side as she waited for (Y/n) to position herself on the warp pad. The light surrounded the three and disappeared just as quickly as it had appeared, revealing the prettiest tropical island (Y/n) had ever seen, small straw houses and abandoned crops littered the area.
"Did...Lapis make these?" (Y/n) eyed an abandoned patch of watermelons.
"No...I think they are the remains of the Watermelon Steven army, a majority survived the earth quakes of the cluster, a giant geo weapon that's been sorted out long ago but I guess they died out...those watermelons must be the non-magic ones..." Pearl noted the small patch of spherical shaped fruits.
"Watermelon Stevens?" (Y/n) questioned.
"Yeah! They looked like Steven and were his army... Steven obviously made them given the tittle- he is able to create sentient plant life! He made us a pumpkin!" Peridot informed.
"Oh yes! That pumpkin pet really was something...what happened to her?"
"She was a pumpkin- organic foods do not last forever." Peridot deadpanned as (Y/n) tried not to imagine the sight of a rotting living pumpkin pet.
"Of course." Pearl nodded, pushing aside a few bushes to allow (Y/n) through, wobbling slightly as she tried to balance herself with Peridot in her arms.
"What is this place by the way?" (Y/n) asked.
"Masked Island." Pearl replied shortly, effortlessly knocking a tree down to create a clearing. The three made their way to the beach, the water lapping against the sand calmly. After a minute or so of inspecting the area, (Y/n) decided to speak up.
"I don't think Lapis is here." She began, but spoke to soon as a giant water tower rose from the ocean, forming into the face of a gem. The ocean's waves began to crash onto the beach, sand and water flying everywhere as Pearl pulled (Y/n) back quickly.
"WHY ARE YOU HERE?!" The figure seemed to have only noticed Pearl and completely missed Peridot and (Y/n).
"Lapis!" Pearl called out, biting her lip. "We need to talk!"
"OH TALK?!" the face yelled, "THAT'S A FIRST!" Pearl winced at the volume at which the voice was speaking at.
"Please! There isn't much time-"
"TIME?!" The figure seemed to mockingly laugh at Pearl, "WHAT WOULD YOU KNOW ABOUT TIME?! IT'S TAKEN YOU YEARS TO COME BACK!"
"LAPIS LAZULI!" (Y/n) yelled, tired of the unproductive banter. The pupil-less face froze mid-sentence, surprised by the unexpected presence of (Y/n).
"You...who are you?! Why are you here with HER?" The face looked at Pearl in disgust.
"I-I'm (Y/n)...I'm Steven's granddaughter." The face's expression reflected surprise before stubbornly looking away.
"And why should I care?" she asked, voice slightly quieter.
"I- we need your help, please Lapis, there's a Red Eye coming for me and we need to stop it... I don't know what happened years ago but what I do know is that we need to put it aside, we need to stop Homeworld!"
"I don't care." Lapis said harshly. "I-I don't c-care." The water model of the face dropped quickly, forming almost instantly before losing composure once more. "I care – not – don't – care – care – no –I – " The voice stuttered, the face melting back into the sea and disappearing quickly.
"What just happened?" (Y/n) asked curiously.
"It's her gem." Pearl said certainly, "Something has to be wrong with her gem."
The face appeared quickly, a stone cold glare fixated. "YOU DID THIS TO ME!" She yelled, "YOU RUINED ME! LEFT TO RETURN TO MY OWN PAIN!" Water gushed out of the figured eyes and mouth, drowning (Y/n) and Pearl in water.
"IT'S YOUR FAULT!" the voice screamed, water continuing to pour. "LEAVE!"
Peridot, gripped onto (Y/n)'s shoulders tightly as they were all washed further up the shore. "LAPIS!" She yelled, eyes widening in fear. "PLEASE STOP!" The words Peridot had said triggered the water flow to hault, the figure's eyes and mouth no longer pouring water and instead reflecting a look of hope and surprise.
"P-peridot?" Peridot clung onto (Y/n) as (Y/n) stood up once more, hand supporting the green gem's body.
"LAPIS!" Peridot shouted, "It's me! It really is me! I'm here!" Peridot said excitedly.
"But- why are you with THEM!?" Lapis accused.
"We- I need you to come here... please Lapis, stop the water play, show up!" Peridot begged. The face bit its lip.
"No – I – no – I –no – stop –" Her voice went abnormally high before the water that suspended within mid-air crashed violently towards the rest of the ocean bellow. Smaller waves crashed onto the beach and lapped against the sand as Pearl and (Y/n) slowly exchanged looks of concern.
"GO!" Peridot urged, kicking her legs at (Y/n)'s thighs, signally for the human to make her way to the water's edge. (Y/n) cautiously followed her instructions, stepping carefully as her soaked body dampened the rest of the sand.
A blue figure burst from the water's surface, being airborne for a second before collapsing to the water's touch again, the tide bringing the figure's exhausted body to land. Once sand touched blue skinned hands, the figure stood up, deep blue hair with a slightly lighter blue skin, her top and dress was the same shade as her hair. She lifted her head up, a gasp from Peridot escaping as empty eyes met (Y/n)'s. They were pupil-less, the only thing that seemed to be there were mirrors, two mirror like eyes that were painfully white.
"L-lapis." Peridot frowned, the gem before them standing up shakily, quickly grasping at Pearl for support.
"P-peridot!" Lapis gasped, as if it was hard to breath. "You're actually here!"
"Why didn't you come home? I was so worried!" Peridot said, squirming around in (Y/n)'s grip, signalling that she wanted to be released.
"I couldn't, my gem was damaged." Lapis said coldly, glaring at Pearl before harshly pulling away, falling to her knees on the floor to welcome Peridot in a hug. "But it doesn't matter- you FOUND me!" she stated in disbelief. Peridot buried her face into Lapis' neck.
"But, your gem?" Pearl asked.
"Oh and YOU suddenly care?" Lapis incredulously spat, standing up slowly as she held Peridot's hand. "You didn't want me anymore!"
"Didn't- what are you talking about?!" Pearl asked surprised.
"Don't play coy, you didn't like me and disbanded the Crystal Gems!" Lapis growled, "I did regrettable things because of you! And just when I thought you guys weren't so bad!"
"That's not what happened." Pearl said defensively.
"OH REALLY!?" Lapis' fists were clenched as she raised one, an identical hand raising from the ocean, somewhat sloppy and slipping away. Pearl's eyes widened.
"Lapis hang on-" Peridot began.
"NO Peridot! I swore I'd take this chance the moment I'd get it!" Lapis growled.
"But she's the reason I FOUND you!" Peridot hesitated. Lapis paused.
"What." She stated.
"Pearl helped me find you." Peridot said slowly. "The Crystal Gems didn't disband because of you, we care about you to Lapis, it wasn't your fault." Lapis squinted suspiciously at the gem in front of her.
"Are you SIDING with her?"
"It's true Lapis." Pearl defended, "The Crystal Gems disbanded because we figured that there was no point in protecting humanity if humans kept fighting and having wars and creating weapons, we gave up and Garnet saw no reason to continue – please believe Peridot if not me, she's telling the truth." Peridot's eyes widened.
"Lapis, I would never lie to you." She began, lip trembling. Lapis looked uncertainly at the two gems, still not taking note of the presence of (Y/n).
"Okay." Lapis said finally, sighing and clenching her teeth, "I believe you... but I don't forgive you." Lapis stared, "You never explained yourself!"
"I know, and on behalf of the others I'm sorry, we should have said-"
"Sorry?!" Lapis exclaimed outraged, "Does 'SORRY' fix THIS!?" she turned her back to allow the others to see a tear drop shaped gemstone embedded within her back, it was a dark blue with small golden flecks and a massive crack down the middle, almost tearing the gem in half.
Peridot gasped and covered her mouth. "L-lapis..." Pearl could only stare. "B-but how did this happen?" Peridot wanted to cry but put on a brave face.
"It was a small crack, but it exasperated within years of not being fixed...we need Steven."
"But Lapis, Steven isn't currently here, no one knows where he is!" Pearl pointed out as (Y/n) bit her lip. She didn't know if she wanted to break the news.
"What happens if Lapis' gem completely breaks?" (Y/n) spoke up finally, scaring Lapis slightly.
"You said you're Steven's granddaughter...you know where Steven is!" She said excitedly.
"I- I don't..." (Y/n) admitted, avoiding the explanation that her grandfather was somewhere she'd rather not speak of.
"Y-you what?" Lapis asked, panic spreading through her facial features, a hand rushing to her hair. "N-no... no – no – no – no – no – no!!!" Her voice cracked as Peridot watched.
"Lapis calm down! Your emotions are affecting your physical state!" Peridot said worriedly.
"No! CAN'T – calm – I – down!" Lapis freaked out.
"What happens when-"
"I'll die." Lapis mumbled, body trembling as (Y/n)'s eye's widened. "I didn't care at first but now that you're back- no!" Lapis bit her lip as she looked at Peridot tearfully.
"Lapis, calm down, it's okay-"
"SHUT UP PEARL! WHAT WOULD YOU KNOW!?" Lapis screamed, dropping to the sand immediately to clutch her stomach in somewhat pain.
"LAPIS!" Peridot worried.
"Everyone calm down." (Y/n) began, "We can figure something out- we... I..." But (Y/n) didn't know what else to do. She turned to Pearl who bit her lip guiltily and summoned something from her gem. It was a small vile, clear liquid inside.
"Honestly, I know this is scary but if they LISTENED then this could be done so much faster." Pearl said, uncorking the vile and tipping the contents onto Lapis' gem. The blue gem paused, shuddering at the feeling and looking up to glare at Pearl.
"What did you just-" she paused, a strange feeling creeping up her back that seemed all too familiar. She went wide eyed as a small light shone from her gem, the crack completely sealed. Her form began to glow as well, her hair turning a light blue with her skin and dress, her entire pallet brightening up as blue pupils returned to her mirror eyes, no longer mirrors and instead normal. "It's fixed? Without Steven?"
"I have some of his healing essence from years ago. It was something I included to the first aid kit."
"Years old? That's disgusting, that saliva would have grown bacteria." Peridot said.
"Saliva IS bacteria" Pearl corrected her, "And it hardly matters since gems don't get sick." Lapis was silent, reaching behind to touch the most of what she could reach of her gem.
"It's actually healed." She spoke, turning to face Peridot. "It's okay!" she grinned, hugging the smaller gem. Peridot nodded and smiled.
"Yes! It's okay now! Thanks to Pearl, I can't imagine what would have happened without her!" Peridot nuzzled her face lightly as Lapis nodded.
"Yes." She said, looking at Pearl, "Thank you."
"It's okay." Pearl nodded, "But are your powers fully functional?" She asked. Lapis shrugged.
"There's one way to find out I guess." She said, turning her neck to look behind her. She bit her lip in anticipation as two small blobs of water expanded from her gem, extending towards the sky to reveal two identical wings made of water.
She fluttered them, smiling giddily as she rose of the ground a few inches. "Oh my gosh I can fly again! I haven't been able to do this for so long!" she landed before unexpectedly hugging Pearl. "Thank you!" she began, "For healing me and bringing Peridot back and-"
"Actually (Y/n) did that." Pearl began, directing Lapis' attention towards the said human who was waving slightly.
"Hi again." She giggled.
"Thank you." Lapis hugged her firmly before letting go. "How can I repay you? Is there anything I can do to make up for everything?" (Y/n) smiled slightly.
"Actually there is, if you don't mind." (Y/n) began, fingers fiddling with each other.
"Name it and I'll do it." Lapis nodded, bending down to pick Peridot up into her arms, nuzzling the smaller gem affectionately as she did so.
"Well, I need your help with gathering the rest of the Crystal Gems, you see there's a certain Red Eye after me and-"
"Homeworld sent a Red Eye?" Lapis cut her off.
"They believe she's Steven" Peridot mumbled under thick layers of blue hair. Lapis nodded.
"Well then I'll help, anyone related to Steven is another Steven in my opinion." (Y/n) raised a brow.
"That's not really how humans work but okay?" (Y/n) shrugged. Pearl nodded.
"Yes, well we need to decipher the rest of these images to find the other Crystal Gems." The book was pulled from her gem again, flipping automatically to the desired page. Lapis inspected each of the three remaining pictures.
The weird fountain with rounded droplets, (Y/n) used to think it was a plant but now believed it was a fountain, the letter 'M' and the volcano were the only ones left unknown.
Finally, Lapis pointed towards the volcano. "That's probably the volcano Garnet's in...I've been told to keep away since ya know...lava and water don't mix? I've flown there before, back before I broke my gem of course...I can show you?" She scratched the back of her neck.
"Wait, a gem is INSIDE an ACTIVE volcano?" (Y/n) asked in disbelief.
"Well Garnet can withstand high temperatures." Pearl explained. "And since you know the volcano, this makes finding her so much easier."
"Do you think she's fused still?" Peridot asked.
"Most likely." Pearl nodded.
"Fused?" (Y/n) questioned.
"Yeah, remember? The two gems into one sorta thing?" Pearl briefly said. "We discussed this when we met" (Y/n) nodded as she remembered the previous discussion.
"These gem terms are slightly confusing." She laughed as she eyed Pearl. "But I'll get there...eventually."
"Yes well the volcano isn't even in this part of the world, we will have to use a warp to get there and then climb to the peak." Lapis explained.
"Well that's not gonna work." (Y/n) said.
"What? Why not?"
"She's human." Pearl pointed out, "And if this volcano erupts, (Y/n) won't survive like us."
"She's also an 8th gem." Peridot spoke up.
"Exactly, something completely new and different, she isn't a complete gem nor a complete human, or even LIKE Steven, we didn't even know what would happen with her mother and now this is just something more complicated, as Steven's blood line is passed, the greater the uncertainty grows!" Pearl pointed out.
"Well I'm afraid I'm going to be the last biological one I suppose." (Y/n) mumbled.
"You aren't going to participate in reproduction?" Pearl asked plainly, as if such question was normal.
"W-what? That's not it! I'm infertile!" (Y/n) blushed before rolling her eyes, "And I doubt I have powers since something like that would probably have been obvious... I mean, I've never done anything unusual before so why randomly start now?"
"Pearl nodded, "Fair point...but if you can't pass Steven's DNA... and your parents aren't alive...then you truly are the last! Biological wise..."
"What about Steven and Connie?" Lapis asked.
"They can't have kids! They're bodies aren't capable of such things at their age whatever they are!" Pearl exclaimed. (Y/n) rubbed the back of her neck.
"Anyways, I can't go to the volcano, what now?" (Y/n) began.
"We could lure Garnet out?" Peridot suggested. "The question is HOW." Lapis went silent as a plan formed in her mind.
"I MAY have an idea..." She spoke up, "It's not exactly a GOOD idea but it could work?"
(Y/n) nodded her head, "Well? It's better than nothing I guess, what do you have in mind?"
"Simple, we put out the mountain."
"Actually it's a volcano." Peridot piped up.
"Volcano, mountain, earth pimple, same thing." Lapis said as (Y/n) snorted.
"Earth pimple? That's a new one."
"To be fair they kinda look like that though." Lapis shrugged, "So anyways, what do you say? That's probably the best way to grab her attention."
"Well I suppose, but if Garnet becomes mad then we may have a problem." Pearl said, "Although she probably knows that there is already a chance we will be coming."
"How so?' (Y/n) asked curiously.
"Garnet has future vision, being created from a fusion of a Ruby and a rare aristocratic Sapphire, Sapphire gems have the power to see futures we can only dream." Peridot explained briskly.
"I see." (Y/n) stated, nodding her head. "Well, let's go then hmm?"Chapter 4 <A Crack's Damage>

"Well, let's go then hmm?"
