You're My Favorite Diamond [Unused Scene]

Reminder: Scrapped Scenes are deleted scenes, Little Shorts are just non-canon side-stories, and Unused Scenes are scenes that have a chance to be implemented into Arkham Edition.

This short is heavily inspired by these two images that I will forever cherish:

What I like about both of these pictures is that they both are basically the same thing

The first one looks more accurate to the show, looking like it actually came from the show while the second one is more accurate to Arkham Edition (since Arkham White is human-sized) and the expressions (mostly White's) are SO GOOD!!!

Also, I strongly recommend that you reread the Overworked short in Arkham Extras (I made it a while ago) because this will have callbacks in it.

And because it's about Momma White, which makes it even better!

Context: An ending idea I have for Arkham Edition (still wondering if I should do it) is Pink Diamond comes back after getting his gem pulled out (not going to say who did it or why it happened) and both Steven and Pink are separate. Much like what Arkham Steven believes, he doesn't matter and every single gem would be more concerned about her than him. And much like he predicted, everyone was too thrilled to see Pink Diamond alive again... all except one... White Diamond.

Some Steven x White Diamond brought into this (I can't tell if it's platonic or not).

3rd Person P.O.V.

Much like he had predicted, everyone is crowding Pink Diamond - looking for her admiration or scolding her for her decisions. Steven rests outside, near the shoreline and staring at the sunset - squinting his eyes as he saw the light glimmering on the ocean.

He felt weak, no surprise about that since his source of life was taken from him.

He's glad that he no longer has to bear the weight of his mother's past on his shoulders - because he finally feels like he was released from the burden. His mother told him that she loved him and that she was proud, and that's all that he needed to hear.

He felt free, and that was something he hadn't felt in almost a decade.

He plans to retire, he could no longer be Homeworld's hero if he was frail. Besides, White Diamond can still protect the planet - if not, then she still has Samuel and Spinel to help her too. Volleyball already retired and plans to never do the field work again.

He feels like he's achieved peace, but the problem is that he's alone now. Everyone had gotten what they wanted, and they no longer need him anymore.

He realizes that it was a mistake to be separate from his mother.

With them no longer being one, everyone would just leave him alone and be forgotten - like Spinel. And he try to use his hero work as a way to be remembered, because he no longer can be a hero. So now, he has to slowly fade away into irrelevance while his mother gets all the attention he used to have.

He truly took her gem for granted, just look at how sad he is to no longer have a reason to be loved.

"Steven."

He glanced over his shoulder and saw White Diamond standing timidly behind him.

"Mom's inside the house." Steven answered a question he presumed she has.

"I know." White Diamond replied. "I'm here for you."

Steven was perplexed. "What?"

She sits down next to him on the sand.

"I know you're thinking about not mattering to anyone." White Diamond bluntly answered.

"How did you...?" Steven cuts himself upon realizing his mistake.

"Steven, you've known me for two years and you still haven't gotten used to my power?" White Diamond playfully asked.

"Stupid question, I know." Steven replied.

"Anyway, I'm here for you." White Diamond restated. "I know it's exciting and all, to finally have Pink back in our lives. And, of course, you finally get to meet your mother. But... I'll never forget about you."

She puts her hand on his cheek.

"You know that, right?" She inquired. "How could I ever forget someone like my star-child?"

"Star-child?" Steven utters with confusion.

"Your mother was my starlight, so I improvised and now you're my star-child." White Diamond grinned, but it didn't last for very long. "As I was saying, I could never forget someone as extraordinary as you. You've changed my life and helped me grow into a better Diamond... I used to have this hole in my form - metaphorically speaking - that never quite seemed like it could be plugged. Even before and after Pink's hoax shattering, I still could never fill it... "

Her mood became very grim and she demonstrates by shapeshifting her form to have this huge gaping hole on her chest and it left ugly and hideous cracks on her torso.

"But when you came into my life, you've filled that hole and it sealed the cracks it left behind. And I don't know what else I can do for you other than to be here for you in this dire time." White Diamond continues, sounding more optimistic the more she talks and the hole formed to be whole again.

She looked like she was going to cry - whether it was tears of joy or sadness.

"I'm not going to leave you, Steven." She croaks, her lip almost quivering. "Not after what you've done for me. I-I know you think that I don't care, but I really do... I'm still heartbroken from the fact that I broke your brain, and now you can't get a good night's rest ever again..."

The tears slip from her eyes and she continues to weep her speech.

"I caused so much pain and suffering just by being me! I forced your mother to run away, I terrorized countless of gems, I crippled our society for the sake of perfection, I gave you irreversible brain damage and all you gave me was a second chance THAT I DIDN'T DESERVE!" White Diamond rants as she slowly gotten more sad and incoherent before completely shrieking in pure anguish of her prior actions.

And then she plummets her face into the sand to  muffle her speech so she doesn't attract unwarranted attention from anybody else that wasn't Steven.

"I DIDN'T DESERVE YOUR MERCY! I DIDN'T DESERVE YOUR COMPASSION! I DIDN'T DESERVE TO WORK ALONGSIDE YOU!" She sobs hysterically as she crumbles on the ground, getting some sand on her little Egyptian goddess dress.

"White..."

She immediately stopped crying when she realized something and lifted her head up from the sand - showing that some of it was stuck on her face.

"S-Sorry! Sorry!" She sniffled. "I shouldn't make this about me... Oh stars, I've been trying for two years to not do it - but it appears old habits die hard. Oh, look at me, I'm talking about myself and-- GAH! I'm doing it again!"

She stands up.

"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to cry." White Diamond quickly explains, not caring that her fast speech was incoherent for Steven to comprehend.

He stands up with her. "White."

She stopped talking. "Huh?"

"Give me your hands."

She leaned down - since she's taller than him - and allowed her hands to rest on his one hand.

"What is--"

He pecked her cheek and she froze - utterly incapable of anything at the mere touch of his lips. A pink hue plasters on her pale face - revealing pure sheepishness.

And then he hugged her, burying his face in the crook of her neck while she was still bent over.

"I've forgiven you ever since you said sorry for the first time." Steven whispers in her neck. "And I never had favorites before, because I always thought Mom would be the one... But after the night we took down Black Diamond, you're my favorite Diamond."

Utterly shocked and feeling a bit proud, she hugs him back.

"Th-Thank you, Steven..." She melts into the hug, after being frozen for so long. "I just hope I could return the favor one day."
