Brief reminder, an unused scene is something that never made it to the main story yet, but has the chance of becoming true (not guaranteed).
Context: White Diamond checks on Steven.
#MommaWhiteIsBestWhite returns.
3rd Person P.O.V.
White Diamond warped to Earth during nighttime, because she knew that Steven would be awake during this time. It's almost sad that she knew Steven well enough to know that he's nearly nocturnal, which is hardly surprising because he was able to do a lot of hero-work in one night. While it is important for Steven to focus on the betterment of everyone else, he often forgets about himself.
Which is why White Diamond is here to make sure that he takes care of himself. She arrives at his bedroom door, not deterred by the fact it is Steven's door. Normally anyone else would at least knock on his door before entering, but White Diamond just opens it like she owns it.
Her hunch was correct, she found Steven staring at some puzzle box on his desk in the middle of the night. That box most likely came from Squaridot with some puzzling and taxing challenge that is boggling Steven's brain.
"Up late playing brain teasers?" White Diamond casually asks.
Steven expected her sooner or later, which would explain why he didn't flinch at her voice becoming so sudden. "Something like that. How did you know?"
White Diamond softly took the puzzle box out of Steven's hands and inspected it. "I believe tradition calls for these puzzles to be solved when the challenger is well-rested, not sleep deprived. A smart brain is a healthy brain, after all."
While that may be true for other humans, White Diamond knows that Steven's brawn and intelligence is hardly dulled by lack of food or sleep. Steven knows that, too.
"Was that sarcasm, White?" Steven inquired, almost annoyed.
White Diamond's mouth stretches a grin. "Mild teasing at best." But then her smile fades away. "I'm being uncharacteristically chanted with you, mainly because you've bleed all over your floor and stairs."
White Diamond points at the large slash marks on Steven's back that he got from his last brawl from Moonlight. The wound is still fresh and blood oozes down his back and on his chair. Steven took it back from her hands and went for the door, but White Diamond stopped him by putting her palm on his chest.
"What is it, White?" Steven asked, sounding terribly irritated by her resistance. "I have important things to do."
"Not until you've had proper care on your body." White Diamond comments about his lack of healing spit usage. "It would only take you seconds to heal that wound, yet you just take pain killers and let your body do the rest."
"You know I hate using my powers on myself, it makes me less human." Steven retorted like an annoyed teenager, which he is.
"Yet ignoring your health makes you more human?" White Diamond playfully teases him. "You're trying to act like a gem, like a Diamond."
"I am a Diamond." Steven replied as if she misinterpreted his identity.
"You're also a growing boy who thinks he doesn't deserve love and affection." White Diamond hits Steven's bruising side with her words, knowing full-well that Steven genuinely believes that he doesn't matter.
Which is why she's trying to smother him with the affection he deserves.
"I can't stop, Squaridot is still at large." Steven returned to the topic at hand, an evasive maneuver he does to avoid his mental and physical health.
"From my recollection, Squaridot has no hostages and the worst she's doing is broadcasting to Homeworld screens just to boast her inflated-ego." White Diamond diminishes Squaridot's threat status.
"She still needs to be stopped." Once again, Steven demonstrates his inflexibility towards all of his enemies, taking each one as if they're genuinely threatening, even though some aren't even that much of a threat.
White Diamond folded her arms. "Yes, and my preference is when you heal your wounds--"
"Fine." Steven cuts her off.
"...Received food and a minimum of eight hour bedrest." White Diamond finishes.
"Let's just get this over with." Steven said, taking off his jacket and shirt, revealing all of the bruises and scars he had gotten from nearly every single enemy he had encountered.
White Diamond checked his right shoulder and saw the scar from when Spinel had stabbed him during Valentine's Day. She sighs, remembering how broken Steven was after that holiday. White Diamond reaches inside her gem and grabbed a pair of Steven's pajamas.
"You've left these at the Palace the other night." White Diamond explains.
White Diamond turns around and allows Steven to change without her staring at him.
"Don't just put your pajamas on and cover up your not-healed wounds." White Diamond spoke from experience after the one time Steven lied by healing his wounds when he really just put clothes over his infected wounds. "You know I can tell when you're lying."
"Alright!" Steven growled at her motherly affection towards him, being annoyed that she was treating him like a toddler.
"I wouldn't be doing this if I didn't care about you, Steven." White Diamond playfully reminds him of her true intentions.
He hates that she cares about him instead of Pink Diamond's gem that resides in his body. He would strongly prefer that she was only doing this for Pink Diamond instead of him.
"Now, I want you to clip your nails, take a shower, shave, brush your teeth and be back here in ten minutes." White Diamond stepped to the side and allowed Steven to walk out of his bedroom to complete the tasks she's given him.
And she waited in his room for ten minutes, and he came back looking much better than earlier. He did everything she wanted him to do in less than eight minutes, overachieving the time limit. That's the one thing she loves to see Steven do, always compete with what's given to him no matter what, whether it's unintentional or not.
It lets her know that he can make his own achievements whenever he can or wants.
"First thing in the morning, I want you to eat as much as you like. And no, that doesn't mean taking a bite out of an apple and saying, 'I'm full.' That may work on everyone else, but not to me." White Diamond asserts herself. "Please, go to bed. It's terribly late."
Steven looked at his bed and back at her with uncomfortable eyes. "You know I don't like to sleep..."
White Diamond sighs, remembering why Steven is even awake in the first place. During the days of when White Diamond was an enemy to Steven, she tried to take over his mind by giving him unrelenting nightmares and scenarios where he is being brutally tortured and killed. This happened because she damaged his hypothalamus, the region of the brain that controls dreams and sleep.
Now Steven always has nightmares most of the time when he sleeps.
"I know, which is why I'm going to stay here with you, to give you peaceful dreams while you sleep." White Diamond holds up her hand to remind him that she can manipulate his dreams while he sleeps, so she could give him restful sleep instead of being subjected to his mind terrors.
Steven sighs, realizing that he won't be able to talk out of this. He climbs into bed, with White Diamond pulling the covers over him and he closes his eyes, giving in to his tired body. As soon as he fell asleep, White Diamond leaned down and kissed his head.
"Good night, Steven." She whispered.
And then she kept her hand on his head all night long.
