This Is All My Fault (On The Run)
Steven and Amethyst travel through the valley as the light slowly transitions into the shadows with its fog covering every inch of space in its path. Steven snaps a twig as he steps on it causing it to wither away with the wind.
Amethyst chuckles as she stops a few feet away from the canyon ahead. "Here we are! Heh! Welcome to the Kindergarten! What do you think?" Steven stares into the canyon as he gives his honest answer, unaware of its disturbing secrets from within.
"It's great."
"Sure is! Come on!" Amethyst grabs Steven's arm and she drags him in. Steven's smile falters as he looks around. He looks up to see the numerous, rundown injector drills spread out throughout the canyon.
"What is this place?" Amethyst shrugs. "It's kinda where I'm from."
"But I thought Gems were from space?"
"Pearl and Garnet are. I was made here on Earth like you!" Amethyst gasps as she spots her rocks from her time of abandonment.
"Check it out!" She dashes up to one that appears to be twice her size and stops to press a hand against it's rough surface. "Oh man! I missed this guy! Aw, it's my climbing rock!" Steven waves to it. "Uh, hello." Amethyst points out the other rocks to him as she keeps her smile in check.
"That's the sitting rock. And that is the one rock that I kicked into two rocks." Steven questions Amethyst as she climbs her "climbing rock". "Uh, how long did you live here?" Amethyst sits on the top as she gives a pretty unclear response.
"For a while I guess. At least until I met your mom and the others." Amethyst pushes herself off the rock and she lands on the ground with a backflip. She giggles, enjoying herself as she darts towards a drill on the ground that is just as big as the two of them combined.
Steven's smile fades as he gazes upon the contraption. "Whoa. What is that thing?" Steven walks up to it as Amethyst rests her hand against one of the legs. "Eh, it's just some old junk-junk from a long time ago. Probably busted by now."
She heads towards her hole as Steven stays to get a good look at the drill. Steven feels his nerves tensing up as he hears Amethyst call over to him. "Hey, Steven! Look! Heh! Here's the hole I came out of!" Steven rushes up to the small hole exactly the size of Amethyst as he raises an eyebrow.
"Hang on. What?" Amethyst resumes her careless presentation as Steven stares at it. "It's ma hole! Heh! Look! It's me sized!" Amethyst slides into her hole until she slumps down from the very back. She exhales. "It's still got that good hole smell."
Steven looks up and then back into the hole with a frown. "You came out of this hole?"
"This is where I was made, dude. One day just-" She makes a POP sound with her mouth. "Right out of this hole." Steven looks back up as he gets a clearer picture on what's going on.
"So, what about the other holes?" Steven backs away as he hears a warp pad activate from behind him. He turns to see Pearl standing on it, out of breath. "There you are!" She looks around in digust before she jumps off to approach Steven. Amethyst gets out of her hole with a groan.
"Great. Here comes the fun police."
"Garnet said you'd be here but I didn't want to believe it." Steven joins Pearl's side as she reprimands her opposition. "Amethyst, what were you thinking bringing Steven to a..." She mentions the name through gritted teeth. "Kindergarten!"
Amethyst folds her arms as she kicks a rock away from her. "I don't know. We were in the neighborhood." Steven asks Pearl another question for more answers. "Pearl, was Amethyst really made here?" She gapes at him before glaring at Amethyst.
"How much did you tell him?" Amethyst turns to confront her. "What? You mean about the bad thing? How this bad place is where bad Gems came to grow more bad Gems? Is that what you're talking about?!" Steven widens his eyes.
"They grew over Gems here?!"
"Amethyst! He's not ready!" Amethyst strides past Pearl towards Steven as she continues her rant with sarcasm. "Oh! But don't worry, Steven, everything is just fine now." Pearl grits her teeth.
"Amethyst!"
"It all worked out! We won!"
"Stop."
"And we shut this place down-!"
"Stop!"
"So the Earth would be safe from parasites like ME!"
Pearl slams a hand in between her and Steven's faces to put an abrupt end to her rant. "Amethyst! That's enough!" Amethyst walks away as Pearl blocks her from getting to Steven. "Pearl?!"
Pearl turns to place her hands on his shoulders, attempting to reassure him from the trauma. "Steven, I'm sorry. I never wanted you to see this horrible place!" Amethyst's lips quiver as her gemstone glows. "Then why don't you just LEAVE!" Amethyst lashes her whip out at them.
It wraps around Pearl. With a smirk, Amethyst pulls the whip back to slam her into the injector drill standing nearby. Pearl grunts as she hits the ground. "Admit it! I'm just an embarrassment to you!" Amethyst lashes her whip again.
Pearl leaps out of the way as it cuts right through the leg of the drill. "Amethyst! Wait!" Steven runs up to Amethyst to try to convince her to stop her assault only to get picked up and thrown out of her way. He lands on the ground as Pearl pulls her spear out of her gemstone on her forehead.
"I don't want to fight you!" Amethyst counters with her own point on that. "I wouldn't wanna to fight to me neither!" She spin dashes towards her as Pearl jumps out of the way. She lands on her knees and she fires arcs of light from her spear at her.
Amethyst dodges them all as she dashes up a wall and back down towards Pearl. Amethyst pulls another whip from her gem as she jumps into the air. Pearl stomps on the ends of it as it hits the ground before slicing through it with a single swipe of her spear.
Steven darts towards the fight as he tries to call it off. "You guys! Stop it!" Amethyst pulls another whip as she lands in front of him with a grunt. She gets up to launch the whip at him. "Stay OUT OF IT!" The whip wraps around Steven's legs and he crashes on his stomache.
Amethyst turns back to Pearl as she somersaults out of the way. Pearl lands right in the spot from where she was at as Amethyst summons another whip to attack with. Pearl bends down and jumps around until Amethyst is vulnerable to combat.
She kicks her in the jaw to knock her away. Amethyst crashes on the ground and she skids away on her knees, grunting in anguish. Pearl twirls her spear around before pointing it at her. "Amethyst, stop this! You can't beat me!"
Amethyst gets up, heaving. "I DON'T CARE!" She screams as digs both of her hands into her gemstone for two whips. She lashes both of them at the spear. They cling onto it as Pearl growls.
"I'M NOT GOING TO LET YOU STAND THERE AND REMIND ME OF EVERYTHING I HATE ABOUT MYSELF!" She unleashes massive sparks of purple from the whips towards the spear. It implodes on impact, sending Pearl into the drill.
She rebounds off of it before crashing onto the ground. She shivers in agony as Amethyst steps up to her. "I never asked for it to be this this way!" Amethyst's eyes well up. "I never asked to be made!" She sniffs as tears roll down her cheeks.
Pearl gapes at her as Steven rushes in with tears building up his own eyes. "Amethyst."
"Amethyst, please! No more! I know you're upset but I can't bare to watch you two hurt each other!" The drill leg snaps off from the drill, no longer able to support its massive structure.
The drill starts crashing down towards them, picking up more and more momentum each second. They gasps as Steven's gem glows. Amethyst steps out of the way of Steven's radius as he bubbles Pearl and himself.
Amethyst stares at the bubble with a grimace as Steven and Pearl gape at her choice of action "Amethyst!" Amethyst runs away from them as the drill crashes down to the ground over them. "Amethyst Amethyst Amethyst!"
Amethyst pants, sobbing as she jumps out of the way as the drill makes a sickening crash from behind her.
She gets up, panting as she runs towards her hole. A smokescreen takes over the area around them as Amethyst uses this time to hide herself to isolate herself from the world she was made from for good. She grabs ahold of a giant rock and she slides it all the way until the entrance is closed off.
Amethyst knows that this would shut her in and that she wouldn't be able to get herself out once she does. She growls as she turns away to stare at the void of darkness and silence. She sits down as Steven yells outside for Amethyst. He searches everywhere, trying desperately to find her hole as Pearl goes with him.
Amethyst can't hear them. She squints her eyes as her eyes start to flood with tears. They stream down her cheeks as Steven and Pearl call out for Anethyst, walking right past the hole she has resided in for the remainder of her existence.
Amethyst decides to take an shaky breath before making her rant to herself. "Why did she come here? I only wanted to show Steven around this place. Just for once I wanted this to actually be something different. I'm sick of being reminded that this place is bad."
She grits her teeth. "I know that already. I just...just once this place
should be some place else other than what it actually is. But they don't want that. They don't want me to put him in trouble just like the thousand of other times that I did as compared to the thousands of years I've spent wandering alone in this abandoned place of horrors!"
She sniffs. "It's not fair. I'm always going to be the bad Gem to them. Why bother staying? Why bother existing on this miserable good for nothing planet!" She slams a fist into the wall in front of her and she pants, losing control of her strength from her outburst.
She turns away from the wall to the other wall that used to be the entrance. "But then again, this while thing isn't their fault. It is mine. It's always my fault, isn't it? Just like the cat fingers and the replicator wand and...and just about everything else!"
Pearl and Steven are long gone as Amethyst listens to the silence coming in from outside. She's alone once more as if everything that got her here was all a dream. A dream that was too good to be real. But now, it's over and she will probably never have that same dream ever again.
Amethyst places her fingers on her head as her tears flow down from her eyes and down her cheeks, dripping down onto her form. She starts to regret being in here as she gets up to place both hands against the rock. She grunts as she pushes with all her might...but to no avail.
She trapped herself and no one's going to come back for her. She slumps back down as she starts to cry. She wails as she yanks at her hair, throwing her back into the wall behind her. She continues to bawl out as she stares into the endless void of no return.
No more second chances. No more games. No more fun. No more Crystal Gems. No more Pearl. No more Garnet. No more Steven. No more Beach City. No more Earth. No more Homeworld. No more smiling. No more existing. No more...everything.
She looks down at herself as she sits up. She places a hand on her gemstone to make to glow. The glow illuminates the small space around her as Amethyst pulls a whip from it. The glow fades and the space darkens back into its original state.
Amethyst feels the thorns on her whip as she loses more and more control of her willpower each passing minute. She can't exist anymore. So why is she still here? Why suffer in here for the rest of eternity when she can spend the rest of her existence in her gem?
Better yet, why not crack it and then shatter it? That way she can dissapear all together and no one can have to hear from her ever again. She smiles at the thought of that and she considers that with a nod. What's the use of staying here? Might as well leave this place for good.
She raises a fist over her gem and she brings it down, attempting to crack it bit by until she creates a crevice big enough to break it in half. She doesn't hear a crack, but she does cough out. She breathes in whatever air is left until Amethyst feels her world slipping away from her.
Her existence remains protected in the space as she continues to cry. "I'm sorry, Steven! I'm sorry, Pearl! I'm sorry, Garnet! I'm sorry, everyone! I didn't want to do this, but you left me no other choice! Now I'm stuck in here and everything is just no longer gonna be what it's gonna be!"
Amethyst presses her hand against the rock again as she feels the tears drip all over her form. "This is what all leads up to, huh? Being alone with no more responsibilities to take care of and no more having to do chores or do this or do that all the time. Maybe...
this won't be so bad after all."
She exhales. "Maybe this is what I needed. Maybe this is all that I've ever wanted." She sniffs as her whip dissapears. Amethyst glares at the rock. "Maybe you were all I've ever wanted." She wraps her arms around as much of the rock as she could to pull herself into it.
She sighs as she rests her head on it's rough surface. "It's over now and everything is going be fine from here on out." She wipes away her tears. "It'll just be us and peace and quiet for years to come until everything finally comes to an end."
She closes her eyes and she attempts to fall asleep as Pearl and Steven come back to the place in which they've started. "Steven, I'm afraid that...she's gone." Pearl looks down, hugging herself as she squints her eyes.
"What have I done?! If I hadn't been after her all the time, we wouldn't be in this predicament right now. But we just had to let everything collapse and fall apart like this that one of us had to get hurt!" She sniffs as Steven stops to turn back to Pearl.
He embraces Pearl as she sits down to bury her hands in her face. "I was terrible to her and liked to taking everything out on her. But this time, I took things too far. If only I knew what she wanted. If only I could understand her. If only I knew what she knew about us and herself."
Steven lets go of Pearl. She gets up as the warp pad activates again. Pearl and Steven gasp. "Garnet!" Garnet grits her teeth as she looks around. "So I was right. You two were here." Steven rushes up to her to embrace her just the same.
He cries into her as she shushes him. "Garnet, Amethyst is gone! We looked all over for her, but we never found her! What are we gonna do, Garnet?!" Garnet looks down at him with a frown. Pearl responds with own in a silent manner. Even with future vision, it does have its limits.
And the choices that Amethyst made has just caused too many outcomes for her to go by. She shakes her head with a sigh. "We can't find her. I'm afraid it's no use, Steven. Amethyst is gone." Steven sobs as Garnet shushes him. "Steven, you need to calm down."
He growls instead. "I can't calm down! I'll never calm down! I was the one who brought her here and then she was the one who took me here! All I wanted was to know was where she came from! But guess even a simple question can put everyone in danger, am I right?!"
Pearl and Garnet look away from him. Steven storms away from them as he makes his way to the warp pad. He jumps onto it and he turns to the rock in place of Amethyst's hole before he puts a hand out to activate it, allowing the light to carry him away.
Pearl and Garnet exchange anxious, sorrowful looks before they follow Steven as Amethyst rests on the other side on her rock, having dozed off peacefully as if passing on into another universe.
