I Don't Want To Be Friends Anymore (Full Disclosure)
Connie heads up the wooden staircase of the temple, wondering why Steven wasn't answering her on the phone. Wondering why he kept ignoring her calls and messages for so long. Well, it's finally time for her to confront him.
Only this time, she expects an answer. Connie notices Pearl and Garnet at the front door as she knocks on its wooden surface. Pearl opens the door as she attempts to put on her best smile. "Oh! Hello, Connie." Connie looks up at her. "Is Steven home?"
Steven opens the window and he climbs out of it. "No." She looks around as a way to keep Connie from noticing Steven sneaking past her. "Is he okay? I'm just really worried. He hasn't been answering his phone. What's going on?"
"I...I-I don't know. I don't understand your human relationships. So um...goodbye!" She closes the door and she folds her arms. Connie walks away and she stops at the railing of the porch. She spots Steven panting, running away from her.
"STEVEN!" Steven runs amongst the rubble of broken glass and metal of the handship that exploded on the beach a few hours ago. Connie chases him in the mess. "STEVEN!" He enters a finger from the ship with Connie right behind him.
Connie enters the finger and she looks around as she pants. She reaches a dead end on the other side with a giant metallic finger standing between Steven and her. She looks around in a frantic daze. "STEVEN?!"
Steven pants, exhausted on the other side of the finger. "STEVEN!" She turns to her left. "Are you in trouble?!" She turns to her right. "Is something wrong?! Did I do something wrong?!" Steven slouches on the finger, groaning.
"Why are you avoiding me?!" Steven groans again for his guilt is only eating him up even more. Connie groans in frustration as she takes her cell phone. She flips the phone open and she calls Steven. On cue, his ringtone rings out.
Steven quickly snatches the phone and he ends the call before forcing the phone to his chest. Connie glares, looking around, aware that Steven is in the area. "Steven, I know you're here! Why are you hiding from me?!"
Steven puts off the tension building inside of him with a deep breath from his nostrils. Steven glares at his phone as he punches in a message to send to Connie. Connie looks down at her phone. "I don't want to be friends anymore?"
She looks up from her phone for a moment. She brings it back up to her face and she calls Steven. The ringtone goes off a second time, startling Steven for a second. He gazes at the phone before he finally accepts the call. He brings the phone to his ear. "Steven?!"
"I can't be with you anymore. I have a destiny."
"Say it to my face!" Her eyes well up. "Say you don't want to be friends anymore! If you can do that...if you can do that, I'll leave you alone! And I'll just go back to having no friends! But I won't believe it until you say it to my face!"
She gasps as she looks up. She watches Steven climb onto the tip of the finger. He balls his hands into fists. He stares at Connie for a moment before he jumps off, landing in front of her, looking down at the sand. "Well?!" Steven looks up at Connie, glaring.
"It's over, Connie. I don't want to be friends anymore." Connie tears up and she sniffs. She looks down with a sigh. "Okay." She closes her eyes and she turns the other way. She walks away, sulking under the loss of her only friend.
Steven watches her walk away before he heads back to the temple. He swings the door and he slams it shut behind him. He grits his teeth as he slumps down onto the couch. "Steven?" Garnet walks up to him. "Are you alright?"
Steven looks away, folding his arms. Pearl and Amethyst step up to Garnet and they watch Steven sulk from his decision. "Is everything alright?"
"Ya man. You don't look so happy."
Steven growls as he abruptly stands up.
"WHY WON'T GUYS JUST LEAVE ME ALONE?!" The Gems take a step back, taken by surprise from his outburst. "Steven, we're only trying to help."
"Oh yeah?! Well stop helping! All I want right now is to be left alone! We can go on a mission later."
"Steven, that's not what we-!"
"STOP!" He tears up. "I DON'T...I DON'T WANT YOU GUYS RIGHT NOW!" He lays on the couch and he turns himself away from them. "Please, just go!" The Gems look at one another.
"Garnet, should we...leave him all alone like that?"
"Steven doesn't want us right now. Come on. Let's just go on a mission and start searching for Peridot. She's out there and we can't let her find any way of contacting Homeworld."
"What about the fusion?!"
"Them too. But they're at the bottom of the ocean so we're going to have to wait on Lapis and Jasper's fusion and focus on stopping Peridot. After all..." She steps onto the warp pad with Pearl and Amethyst behind her.
"It's not like Peridot would want to be there with them." Amethyst chuckles. "True." The warp pad activates as the Gems dissapear in the flare of light. Once they're gone, Steven turns to the other side. "Why did it have to be me?"
He sit up and he faces the portrait of his beautiful, deceased mother. He grits his teeth at it. "Why do they want me, mom? Why does Homeworld...
want me?" A tear slides down of his cheek. "So many bad things have happened."
He looks away. "I just don't understand why Jasper wants to fight you...or me...or why the Diamonds would've wanted to see you or...me." He grabs his right arm with his left hand.
"You left me with a destiny. A destiny that I...cannot share with anyone. I can't be friends with Connie anymore and I couldn't hang out with dear old dad anymore either. I...I don't know how this magical Gem stuff works." He sighs.
"I just wanted to know about this stuff so badly that I have put everyone in danger including myself. If only I knew...what did you do back then that started all of this?" He looks back up at the portrait. He growls at it and he turns away from it.
He takes out his phone from his pocket. "Well..." He presses his finger on the contacts icon on the home screen. He then scrolls down the list of names. "Maybe I can hang out with my dad...even though he doesn't like seeing me go on these missions with the Gems."
He spots Connie's name on the contacts list. He opens it up to three seperate options: call, message, delete. "But as for my friends and all of Beach City..." He presses his finger on the delete button to erase Connie's name from his contacts list. "I have to let go of it."
