Fate and Love (The Answer)

Deep within a forest down on Earth on broad daylight, a fusion stumbles into a tree as she attempts to walk with her new form. Her components, a Ruby and a Sapphire work simultaneously with each cautious step, getting the hang of things.

Garnet smiles to herself just before she trips over a branch and tumbles down a steep hill. She crashes down into a rose bush, allowing the petals to land on top of her. She groans as Sapphire presses her hand to Garnet's forehead.

Pearl, just a foot away from the fusion, points her sword down in front of their face, narrowing her eyes. Garnet's eyes bulge and she backs away, screaming. She pants for a moment as she props her back against the rose bush.

Ruby yells out through the fusion. "Don't hurt her!" She looks down at herself before she squints her eyes, realizing that she is a part of a new form. "Don't hurt--me." Pearl holds her sword steady, raising an eyebrow as she bends her head down.

She widens her eyes, recognizing the familiar face. "It's you. The fusion." Ruby and Sapphire, out of fear, unfuse, holding each others hands as they back up further from the Pearl. Sapphire grips Ruby's right hand and Ruby's right hand convulses as she holds Sapphire's left.

The two grimace as Rose steps out of the shadows to meet them. "So you are the Gems who made up her." Ruby raises an eyebrow. "Rose--Quartz?" She nods with a slight curl in her lips. "Don't worry. We're not going to hurt you." She turns to Pearl who lowers her sword as soon as she does.

Pearl keeps her sword at her side as she takes a step forward. "So how did you do it? How did you create her?" Ruby casts her eyes down on the grass. "I--I don't know. I just wanted to save Sapphire before you--you know." Pearl's eyes droop as Ruby lifts her head up.

"It's just--the way she chose her fate. There had to have been another way--so I took her away from that fate--and made something entirely new. A new fate. A new future. A new world. A new--us." Rose chuckles. "Well, that's what we, as the Crystal Gems, have been trying to accomplish since the dawn of the rebellion."

Sapphire presses her free right hand to her forehead just above her eye. "I never thought that my future vision was so--inaccurate. I always look into a single possibility, one future. I never thought that there could be multiple outcomes in the same scenario. I like this one so much better too."

Ruby blushes, pressing her free left hand to the back of her neck as Rose shakes her head. "Your future vision isn't inaccurate. Like you said, it can only see one future over all of them. Fate isn't decided for you. Fate is the path that you decide for yourself."

Sapphire gapes as Rose continues. "It's basically like--I was supposed to be a Quartz soldier for my Diamond--but I didn't want to be. I chose to rebel against Homeworld and make a change that could benefit us all. That is exactly what I did--just like how you chose to be her."

Pearl concurs with her leader with a grin. "Yes! I was supposed to be a Pearl, a servant for Homeworld--but I didn't want to be. So instead, I chose to be a knight and fight alongside Rose to accompany her and aid her on her mission to--you know--make something entirely new!"

Ruby and Sapphire exchange looks before turning back to the rebels. "Uh, is alright if we-!" Rose nods. "Go right ahead." Ruby and Sapphire close their eyes and they merge together once to form their fusion.

Garnet opens her eyes and she looks down at the gemstones embedded on the palms of her hands. "There are still so many things that I don't get though." Rose raises her eyebrow, her smile fading.

"Like what?" Garnet's eyes droop as she casts her eyes down. "Like--ugh! Why do I feel lost--and scared. Happy? I just don't get why I wanted to be this over anything else I was supposed to be--or do this over anything I was supposed to do."

Rose giggles, her visage brightening with joy. "Welcome to Earth." Garnet  bites her lip for a moment, rolling her eyes back up towards Rose. "Could you please tell me though?! I mean--how was Ruby able to alter fate?! Why was Sapphire willing to give up everything?! What--What am I?!"

Rose closes her eyes for a moment. "No more questions. Don't ever question this." She takes the fusion' hands and she brings them together. "You are the passion, the fury, the conversation that binds all of this together. There is no other answer than you. YOU are already the answer."

Garnet gazes in awe towards the wise leader as she processes her response--and embraces it. Steven, back in reality, on the pickup truck in the barn under a cover sheet, looks up into Garnet's eyes. "So what was it?" Garnet raises her eyebrow. "Love, Steven. Love."

Steven's lips curl back up. "Wow. I knew it." Garnet blinks her eyes. "Well, I didn't before. But after all we have been through and from what we have accomplished together, I know for a fact that it is what was meant to be." She presses her right hand to the top of Steven's hair.  "Find your love."

She detaches her hand and presses it back down on the cover sheet. "And you too will find the answer." Steven nods. "I will." Garnet chuckles as she gets up. "Good. Good night, Steven." Steven yawns as Garnet heads back outside. "Good night, Garnet." The barn door slides shut as Steven snuggles up in his sheet, closing his eyes.
