Captured (Part 1)
Warning(s): reader is captured by HYDRA, fighting, violence, a bit of angst (there will be more in the next part, sorry)
You woke up to the feeling of kisses being planted on your shoulder. You let out a quiet groan and opened your eyes to see Steve smiling at you before he continued kissing your shoulder, moving up your neck, to your cheek until he reached your lips.
Before he could press his lips on yours you lifted your hand up and covered his mouth. "What?" He muttered against your palm.
"I have morning breath."
Steve took your hand that was covering his mouth and intertwined his fingers with yours. "So do I."
You smiled, rolled your eyes and let him lean in and kiss you. The kiss was gentle and slow and you loved every second of it.
"Good morning." You whispered after pulling away.
Steve smiled, "Good morning, beautiful." He whispered back before pecking your lips again. "I'm going to take a shower." He said before pushing himself off of you and stood up from the bed.
You groaned and rolled onto your stomach, burying your face in the pillow. "I'll just wait for my turn here," you muttered, the pillow muffling your speech.
Steve chuckled and stepped into the bathroom.
You rolled around in bed, trying to drown out the slightly annoying sound of the running water in many possible ways; holding a pillow over your head, hiding under the duvet, doing both at the same time.
You groaned, admitting defeat and stood up from the bed, shivering slightly at the loss of warmth.
You looked towards the bathroom door, you could have joined him but you were just too exhausted, deciding against it.
You walked over to Steve's drawer of clothes, deciding to be a good girlfriend and pick up some clothes for him to put on after the shower. You crouched down and opened the sock drawer. You reached out to some socks only to feel something under them. Your brows furrowed as you dug under the pile of socks. You picked up a box. A small, navy, velvet box. You covered your mouth with your hand and your eyes widened.
You heard the door opening behind you, you quickly put the box back exactly where you found it. You hadn't noticed the shower turning off, you were staring at the box so intently. "Y/N?" Steve asked from behind you. "What are you doing?"
You quickly stood up and faced him. "I was just... I was going to bring you some clothes." You shrugged.
Steve quickly strolled over to you and kicked the drawer closed. "There's no need for that." He placed his hands on your arms and ran them up and down. "But thank you very much." He kissed the top of your head. "Now go take a shower."
You kept quiet and went to the bathroom. You locked the door behind you and leaned your back against it.
"Oh, my God..." You muttered under your breath.
You pushed yourself off of the door and stripped all your clothes off before you stepped in the shower.
You couldn't take your mind off of the box that you found. Maybe it's not a ring, you thought. It could be like... earrings or something.
You took a deep breath and turned on the shower. The warm water poured down your skin, hoping it would help you relax. Still your mind wandered to the velvet box.
What if it was a ring? You thought to yourself. Is he going to propose? What would I say?
"I have to talk to Natasha," you muttered to yourself. "I have to tell someone."
***
You decided to talk to Natasha after the two of you finished your training session which was just about to end.
You groaned as you fell to the floor, again. Natasha had pinned you down for what seemed like the hundredth time. She sighed and reached for your hand which you took in yours. She pulled you up and looked at you with a frown. "What's up?" She asked. "You're distracted. What's wrong?" She asked now sounding more worried. Natasha had always been like a big sister to you. She always knew when something was bothering you, she was always there for you. She was always ready to punish anyone who hurt you.
"Can we," you started, pointing behind you towards the changing rooms, "go talk somewhere more private?" You asked as you looked around the gym, seeing few others training.
Natasha just nodded, took a hold of your wrist and dragged you to the changing room. She sat you down on a bench and crouched down in front of you, looking worried as ever. "Y/N, what's going on? You're freaking me out. I never freak out."
You let out small chuckle and shook your head. "It's nothing that you should be worried about. It's about me and Steve."
Natasha stood up abruptly. "What did he do?" She asked with an angry look. "Did he hurt you? Is he too rough with you? I knew you were too fragile for a super soldier—"
"No! No, it's not that," you interrupted. "I mean the sex is great, really amazing—" Your eyes widened, realising you were getting off topic. "That's not what this is about. The thing is... I found—"
"A hidden camera?"
You looked up at her with a slight blush creeping up on your cheeks. "What? No! Will you let me finish?" There better not be any hidden cameras in our bedroom.
Natasha rolled her eyes and sat down next to you, taking your hand in hers. Encouraging you to go on.
You took a deep breath before you started speaking again. "I found a box in his sock drawer today. A small velvet box."
"A ring box?" She asked quietly.
You shrugged, "I'm not sure. I didn't look inside. He came out from the shower so I just threw it back in."
"Did it look like a ring box?"
"Yeah, it did."
"Wow."
"I know."
There was a short silence between the two of you until Natasha spoke up again. "If it is a ring and he's going to propose," she started as a small, hopeful smile made its way to her lips. "What would you say?"
You covered your face with your hands and let out a muffled groan. "I don't know," you muttered and leaned back against the wall behind you. "I love Steve, I really do. But are we ready to get married?" You asked and looked at Natasha with a worried look on your face. "And when the hell would we even have the time? We save the world for a living. We can't really take a break from it."
"You do know you're not the only ones who are able to save the world, right?" Natasha asked you and you rolled your eyes. "I'm sure you could take some time off." She said and threw and arm around your shoulders, pulling you closer to her. "But the most important question is," she started and looked at you with a small smile. "Do you want to marry Steve?"
And you thought about it. Steve getting down on one knee, holding the box open as you stared down at the ring with tears in your eyes. Steve asking you "Will you marry me?" With a nervous and hopeful smile on his face. You nodding, whispering "Yes." as tears fall down your cheeks. Steve sliding the ring on your finger, standing up and kissing you.
You found yourself smiling as you looked back to Natasha, seeing her grinning also. "Nothing would make me happier." You answer.
"Oh my, God. I can't believe you're getting married!" Natasha squealed which you weren't used to seeing.
She pulled you in for a tight hug. You chuckled, hugging her back. "C'mon, we don't know for sure if he's going to propose, yet." You reminded her but she just brushed you off.
"I'm going to be your maid of honor, right?"
"You know, I was actually thinking of asking Pepper—"
"I will kill you."
You laughed, hugging her again. "Of course you'll be my maid of honor. When I get married."
"It's going to be soon."
"Sure it is."
***
Weeks went by and you continued to pretend you had never seen the box but that didn't mean you stopped thinking about it.
It had been weeks and there was no sign of him planning on proposing. Maybe it isn't a ring. You thought. But what if it is?
You found yourself frowning from time to time, thinking that if it is a ring, why wouldn't he propose already? He had many opportunities.
Then a horrible thought popped into your head. What if he's rethinking it?
"Y/N?" Steve's voice shook you from your thoughts. "What's going on?" He placed a hand on your thigh, giving it a small squeeze.
To you it made sense, he was more distant, he always had something that kept him busy, he was always away.
You put on the best smile you could manage and looked at your boyfriend. "Nothing, babe." You assured him. "Just thinking about stuff."
"What stuff?"
You bit your lip, wondering what to say. "Oh, uhh... Just thinking about the next mission."
Steve sighed and wrapped his arm around your shoulders, pulling you closer. You laid your head on his chest and waited for him to speak up. "Don't worry about it, everything will be okay."
"Yeah..."
***
You woke up one day, feeling the absence of your boyfriend immediately. Sometimes Steve got up earlier than you, being used to his old ways, that didn't bother you but as you looked over your shoulder, you saw a note on his pillow. You frowned and took the note in your hand.
The note was basically an apology from Steve, saying he had a busy day. He also told you to go by a bakery, pick up a cake and meet him in the roof of the tower at 8 P.M. and you were told to wear something nice.
You couldn't stop the wide grin from forming on your lips as you placed the note on your nightstand before sitting up on the bed. You rubbed your eyes, trying to get the sleepiness away.
As you got up from bed, your eyes widened and you grabbed the note in a rush. You reread it through.
You quickly rushed to Steve's dresser, opened the sock drawer and looked through it.
The box was gone.
You stood up, holding a hand over your hanging mouth. "Oh, my God." You gasped. "Is he going to propose tonight?"
It could still be earrings or something, You reminded yourself. Oh, who are you kidding? It's definitely a ring! You squealed, clapping your hands together.
You changed into your workout clothes and headed to the gym only to be stopped by Clint.
"Y/N, why are you dressed like that?"
You scoffed, "I have training." You said as if it was obvious. It was obvious.
"Oh, training is cancelled for today."
"What?" You asked. "You're not pulling my leg, are you?"
Clint shook his head.
"Why didn't anyone share this information with me?" You crossed your arms on your chest.
Clint was being awfully serious, you were getting a little freaked out. "Clint what's going on?"
"I don't know! I just heard training is cancelled, okay?" He snapped.
You frowned as you looked at the Archer walking, or stomping, away. You took out your cell and dialled Steve's number, wanting to know what the hell was going on. Training couldn't be cancelled. Training was never cancelled.
The phone rang and rang and rang but there was no answer. You decided to call Natasha but she only told you she was busy before hanging up.
You huffed and decided to move into the lounge area, since training was cancelled, you had a free day. Why not spend it by watching TV until someone interrupts you.
***
After hours of lying on the couch and watching TV, you were starting to get worried. You hadn't seen anyone other than Clint and Pietro, who dashed past you every once in a while, during the day. You found yourself wondering where the hell everyone was.
You were getting bored of watching TV and decided to get up, go to the bakery to pick up the cake.
You didn't even bother changing from your workout clothes, just threw a jacket on and left the tower.
You were getting closer to your destination. You noticed the area was awfully quiet. You looked around, feeling slightly scared as you walked through the dark empty street. It was just a little shortcut.
Suddenly you felt a presence behind you. You felt threatened. You quickly spun around, ready to defend yourself. You saw three big men behind you and your eyes widened in fear, you tried to conceal it and hoped the darkness hid it even slightly.
You threw a punch towards one of the men, kicking another one. Both men stumbled back as the third one launched at you. You dodged only to be attacked by another guy. You tried to hit him with your elbow but he was much stronger than you. You tried to squirm away from his grip and couldn't. You were just about to yell for help but you felt something being inserted into your neck.
Suddenly you felt dizzy and powerless. You looked to your side to see one of the men holding up a needle. The next thing you know, you were unconscious.
***
"Where is she?" Steve asked as he paced back and forth on the roof of the tower.
"She'll be here soon." Bucky tried to comfort him.
Steve turned to his friend with his eyebrows knitted together. "It's been 45 minutes." He said, looking at the watch on his wrist, tapping the screen just to make sure it was working. "Why isn't she here yet?"
Bucky shrugged, "Maybe she didn't get the message." He said and took one of the glasses that was set on the table, pouring himself some wine, knowing well that Steve had better things to worry about than someone drinking the wine that was meant for you and him.
"How could she not get the message? I placed it on my pillow so it would be the first thing she'd see." Steve said, getting very frustrated and worried.
"Maybe she forgot what time you two were supposed to meet."
"Bucky, don't play dumb." Steve spat. "Something has obviously happened to her."
Bucky stood up from the table and walked over to Steve, placing his hand on his friend's shoulder. "Calm down. I'm sure she's fine."
"Your eyes are telling a different story."
Bucky let out a deep breath and pursed his lips. "Okay! I'm worried too." He admitted.
Steve ran his fingers through his short blonde hair. "I'm going to look for her." Steve said and headed inside. Bucky drank the last of the wine in his glass before following after his friend.
"I'll help you." Bucky said as he caught up with Steve.
The first thing that Steve did was go to your shared bedroom. As he opened the door he saw you and he sighed in relief. "Y/N, thank God—" He stopped as she saw you taking your things and throwing them in suitcases. "What are you doing?"
You didn't answer, didn't even turn around or stop when you heard his voice. Steve frowned and turned to Bucky, telling him to go.
"What's going on?" Bucky whispered.
"I don't know. Let me take care of it." Steve said and with that, Bucky left you alone.
Steve closed to door and looked at you, walking around the room, throwing clothes and other things in suitcases that were on the bed. "Y/N, what's going on?" You still remained quiet. Steve walked over to you, took a hold of your arm and spun you around. "Answer me!"
You looked at him with no trace of emotion whatsoever. Your eyes were cold and it was making Steve even more worried. "I'm packing." You answered simply and tried to turn around but you were stopped by his strong grip once again.
"What do you mean you're packing? Where are you going?"
"Away from all of you."
"What? Why?"
"To get away." You said through gritted teeth and finally got free from his grip.
"Why are you leaving?" Steve yelled.
"Because nobody wants me here!" You yelled back while throwing the last of your possessions in the suitcases and zipping them up.
"What the hell are you talking about? Of course we want you here!"
"Don't start Steve!" You yelled, tears forming in your eyes, you were finally showing some emotion. "Everyone has been avoiding me for weeks, you have too. I only ever see you at night when we go to sleep. Everyone hates me. It's just better if I go." You picked up the suit cases and headed out of the room.
Steve followed you, confused by the way you were acting. "Y/N, none if that is true!"
"Oh, come on!" You let out a dry laugh and stopped in your tracks. "Everyone has been acting weirdly around me for weeks now and I'm sick of it. I don't even know what I did!"
"It's all my fault." Steve admitted and looked down at the floor. "I had all this big night planned and I—"
"You did all this?" You asked, tears now streaming down your cheeks.
"No, it's not what you think—"
"I actually thought you still loved me."
"I—I do! Y/N, I really do I even got this—" He said and took a box out the pocket of his dress jacket. "I was going to ask you—"
Before he could finish the sentence you had slapped the box out of his hand and his heart shattered. You saw the look of hurt on his face but you just stared at him with the same cold look you had a few minutes ago. "I'm leaving." You said before walking away.
Steve was crying. He didn't understand why you were acting the way you were or why you would want to leave. He knew that he and the others were busy and didn't have much time to do anything. It was all his fault, he had them all help him arrange this big night that you were supposed to be enjoying right at the moment. He caught up to you again and took a hold of your wrist but you pushed him away. You looked at him with fury filled eyes. "Don't touch me." You warned before you finally left, leaving Steve heartbroken.
***
Although Steve was upset, he was also furious. "I don't know what the hell happened! She kept saying we all hate her and that nobody wants her here."
Steve had called everyone up to the meeting room. There was something fishy about the situation and he knew it.
"What did she do today?"
"She was watching TV. I checked on her a couple of times." Pietro called out.
"Did she do anything else?"
Steve then remembered what he had told her to do. "The cake." He muttered. "She went to pick up a cake."
Tony stood up, "I'll check the security cameras." He announced and moved over to the computer in the back of the room. Everyone else waited impatiently for any information about what happened to you. They were all worried, some more worried than others but that didn't mean anyone cared for you any less. "Got it." Tony said and click something on computer to make the camera appear as a hologram on the table for everyone else to see. "This was about 6:25 P.M." He said as the video started playing, there you were stepping into the dim ally to take a shortcut to the bakery. "and as you can see here in the right you see that there's some kind of a fight going on. That's where Y/N went."
"She was in fight?" Steve asked. "She was fine! That doesn't help at all."
"Wait," Natasha said. "What's that?" She asked as the video stopped. There was something shining when one of the men stumbled backwards. He was in a range for a streetlight to illuminate his figure. Tony tapped on the shiny thing and the picture zoomed in on it.
"It's a pin."
Bucky sucked in his breath and tensed immediately as he saw the pin. "It's HYDRA." He said quietly. "HYDRA's got her."
