The Avengers Part 3
To say that Tony was shocked was an understatement. He knew he had recognized him from when he walked into the room, and now he knew what from. His dad had was obsessed with the guy. He could hardly go one day without hearing about him. Apparently, Howard had never been the same after the airplane failed to land safely. He had spent years of his life looking and was unsuccessful.
Now that same man was sitting in the same room as him. The man who made such an impact on America, people had made action figures out of him was alive. A man called the greatest martyr of all time, who had died in 1945 was sitting next to him.
The rest of the group were also looking at him in amazement.
Nat finally said something
"How come you did not tell us that he was alive?"
Fury looked at her with a confused expression.
"Why would I have to tell you? You are not my superior, you are not related to him, hell you don't even know the guy. So I say again, why the hell do you care?"
Nat was taken aback by Fury's response and while she tried to say something witty in response, she could not think of anything.
Bruce Banner was looking him up and down. This was the man who had taken the original serum he had tried to recreate, unsuccessfully of course, but still. The man did not turn into a rage monster as he did. His skin was not permanently red, like the Red Skull"s. The science just made no sense to him. He also survived 70 years in solid ice form and came back with no complications.
Thor was confused. He did not understand why the humans were freaking out about this punny mortal being. Luckily he had his phone on him and searched up Steve and America.
The results shocked him.
He had to check the date on his phone to make sure he was reading this right. The man had died almost 70 years ago. To him, it seemed like nothing. He had already lived over thousands of years. But he knew mortals could not live that long. How was this man still alive?
Clint was still trying to wrap his head around the whole thing. Here he thought that Fury would be their leader, just that he did not want to mention it until they all had agreed to come to this meeting. Then he brings in a man that had died in World War 2 and had him become part of this. The pieces just did not quite fit together.
Steve was worried. All of the others were looking at him in awe. Even Thor, the god of thunder was looking at him with confusion. Steve had begun to think that Fury had made a mistake.
He had done some reading on each of them. He knew that Tony was Howard's son. He also knew that Banner had tried to recreate the serum, but it went wrong and turned him into the Hulk. There was not much on Natasha. All he had found out was she used to work for someone else, but then Barton did not kill her like he was supposed to and brought her into S.H.E.I.L.D. Thor was prince of Asgard and had shown up on earth in the past when he had been thrown out of the heavens and crash-landed in front of a scientist.
Fury was trying to figure out everyone's opinions at this point in time. He knew to bring Steve to this meeting could cause some very strong opinions to surface.
He knew that Nat would not react the best to his situation. He pretty much always told Nat everything that happens at S.H.E.I.L.D even when she was not around. He always gave her leadership to go on the most dangerous missions because he knew she could handle them. But now she probably felt betrayed by him, but he knew that she would get over it, eventually.
With Tony, he had no idea what to think. He knew his father would always tell him stories about Steve while he was growing up. He probably was more proud of Steve then he was on his own son.
Banner was probably freaking out at this point in time. He had dedicated years of his life to the science behind the serum that made Steve Captain America. After it had not gone well he wanted to reverse the effects, with no success. Now the actual man stood in the same room as him.
Thor probably was confused about what was going on. He had never been on earth by the time Steve had been alive and died. This was probably an argument he just did not want to get caught up in.
Steve, on the other hand, was looking worried. He was not meeting the gazes of the other people at the table. Fury knew that Steve had never done well with attention. Well, anything besides being Captain America and leading people into battle. Deep down Steve was still a kid from Brooklyn who got beat up in almost every alley to be found in the area. The kid was picked last for everything.
But right now Fury needed the Captain America that went down into history. A man that the others would look up to. He gave Steve a sideways glance and made a fist with his hand once he saw Steve's eyes glance over. Steve's body breathed and then, it was even possible he up straighter.
"I know Fury did not tell you that I was back from being in the ice." Steve began. All eyes turned his way. Someone mumbled under their breath, "obviously."
Steve continued, "I told him not to tell anyone. I had just gotten back from 1945 to a world that you could carry your cell phone around with you. When movies actually have high definition and color. Where cars can go more than 40 miles an hour. I was not ready to go and be thrown into that world. I wanted time to adjust to my surroundings. I asked not to be put out into the public eye. If you want to blame anyone for this, blame me."
Fury could not believe it. Steve Rogers had just taken all the blame away from him and put it on himself. It made no sense at all. The others have every right to chew him out, right there and then, in front of S.H.E.I.L.D agents. And yet, he did not. This man is really a soldier from God.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tony had just about had enough of this nonsense. First, he was invited to a meeting that he thought that he was not even considered for. Met a bunch of crazy people, who he probably could never get along with. Had to wait for the meeting to start (for the first time in his life), had the leader of the group come late, only to have the leader turn out to be an old dead person.
At first, he was confused about how this had happened. People just don't come back from the dead every day. Then after they had all thrown the blame onto Fury, Cap decided to become all noble like and take the blame for the whole thing. Those type of men annoyed Tony to the end of the earth.
Now here they were, all sitting and talking, acting like those things did not happen. They just carried on with the meeting, not even second guessing that the whole thing might be a hoax, to get together a bunch of talented people and kill them where they stood. Now that Steve was in the mess, he knew that this whole thing could not be real.
