Chapter 8 ~ Regret
(Edit: Please read edit in the description!)
Sans was still a little giddy. Isla had stopped calling him Sans all together, and even started calling Papyrus her uncle. Sans pet her head as she sat on his lap and they watched T.V. together. Papyrus was making spaghetti with his new pot and ladle, and also the tomato sauce.
Isla was still admiring the jacket she'd gotten, along with hugging the stuffed lion-like monster 'Santa' had gotten her. "Dad? Why does Mettaton say weird stuff like that?" Isla asked when said robot made a sexual reference. Sans's smile grew when she called him that, but he sighed and pet her head. "Isla. When Mettaton starts talking like that, and you are in the same room, you have'ta yell at 'im, and tell him that it is a family show."
Isla remained confused but nodded, fiddling with the zipper a little. "Alright dad." Isla said. She decided she liked calling him dad, so she did it every chance that came her way. She loved how the smile on Sans's face grew less casual and more sincere. She loved how happy it made him. Plus it just... felt right to call him that.
---~---
Isla was pouting while sitting on the couch, woken up early since Sans had to work in Waterfall. And the worst part is, he left her alone after much fussing. He couldn't risk Undyne finding her. It didn't help that Isla was now all alone since Papyrus had training. Sans had told her not to go in the kitchen at all, and Papyrus's room. It had been a week since Christmas and Papyrus had ordered the house to be cleaned, and the tree to be taken down. But Sans had left so...
She heard Papyrus's loud voice come up, followed by a muffled, slightly quieter voice. "BUT UNDYNE, YOUCAN'T GO IN!" Papyrus yelled. "AT LEAST LET ME TIDY UP FIRST!" "Papyrus, I'm sure that it's fine!" Papyrus opened the door and Isla was already running to Sans's room, heart pounding as Papyrus motioned her to go faster. The door shut a little late. "Is... Is Sans home Papyrus?" Undyne asked as Isla tensed up inside of Sans's room. "NO..." Papyrus said. "I'M SURE IT'S JUST THAT ANNOYING DOG AGAIN." Papyrus said, trying to calm Undyne. "Dogs can't pull doors shut!"
Papyrus was sweating bullets. Where was Sans when you needed his lazy yet convenient excuses?
Apparently he was actually working. Which was ironic in itself. Sans never worked.
Undyne crept up the stairs, a spear materialized outside of Sans's door. Isla turned off the light, seeking some sort of place hide. She dived under the bed. The spear demolished the door, and Undyne stomped inside with a menacing glare. "UNDYNE!" Papyrus yelled. Undyne searched through the mess. "Sans's room is cleaner than usual..." Undyne muttered. That was when she looked under the bed, causing Isla to yelp as Undyne smirked and pulled her out. "A human!" Undyne yelled in victory. Isla was sobbing now. "Dad! Daddy!" She cried as Undyne roughly threw her over her shoulder. "Uncle Papy! Please!"
Undyne paused as Papyrus was blocking the way out. "UNDYNE. LET THE HUMAN GO! SHE IS MY... WELL, SHE IS MY FRIEND." Papyrus said. Undyne snickered and then started laughing. "Papyrus, this is a human! We only need two more souls!"
"BUT UNDYNE, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND-" "Papy! Help!" Isla sobbed, reaching out for the skeleton. "You're uncle Papy? Does that make Sans who she calls 'Dad'?" Undyne asked, a smirk still on her face. "Yeah. I'm Dad. Back off, Undyne."
Undyne turned suddenly, since Sans was behind her, while Isla cheered. "Daddy!" She called happily. Undyne dropped the kid to the floor so she landed with a grunt. "Sans. This is selfish, keeping our near-escape away from us." Undyne said, putting a foot on Isla's back so she couldn't get away. The sudden pressure made Isla huff. Sans's fist tightened. "Undyne. Let Isla go." "So the human has a name?"
"Don't change the subject Undyne. Give. Me. My. Kid." Sans said, his eye glowing menacingly. Undyne growled. "No, Sans." "Don't make me fight you, Undyne!" "Undyne, Please let Isla go..." The skeleton brothers her both trying to get her back, with completely different ways. Sans was acting so out of character. Papyrus was was being normal though.
Isla's tears were falling onto the floor. "Daddy... Papy... Please help me..." She sobbed. Sans's eyes held a lot of concern as his voice lowered and softened to a loving, comforting, yet concerned tone. "Don't worry Isla. I'll handle it."
"Last chance Undyne. You have to understand, I don't want to do this, but if you continue... both of us are gonna have a bad time." Sans said. "I hope you understand the consequences that will come from this." Sans said. Undyne huffed. "Sans, you are the weakest one here. You have one HP, and horrible stamina." She said. "I'm sorry Undyne but..."
Sans's hand glowed, and he turned Undyne's soul blue. He jutted his hand up, so Undyne slammed into the ceiling, letting Isla go free. The girl scrambled up and ran to Sans, clutching at the shorts and sobbing into his femurs. Undyne growled in pain as a Gaster blaster appeared and blasted her until she was at 1 HP and unconscious.
"BROTHER...? WHERE DID YOU LEARN HOW TO FIGHT LIKE THAT?" Papyrus asked as Sans shoved a hand into a pocket and his eyes returned to normal, if not darkened by guilt. "I dunno... Just don't worry about it Paps."
Papyrus nodded and picked up Undyne, bringing her downstairs to the couch. Sans sighed. "My rooms a mess." Isla was still sobbing softly into his shorts so Sans picked her up gently. "You 'aight, Isla?" Sans asked softly. Isla was still hiccuping quietly, and sniffling, but she nodded. "Isla... I'm glad you're safe. I came just in time..." He sighed, and pressed his teeth to her cheek in a 'kiss'. "But it's unsafe for you now... I have to take you somewhere safe but... where?" He muttered.
He walked out of his room and down the stairs as he got an Idea. "Paps. I'm taking Isla somewhere safer. I... We're not gonna see her for a long time, so come and say bye, ok?" Sans said. Papyrus walked over. "Where is she gonna go?" Papyrus asked, his eyes wide in disbelief. "I can't say bro." "Dad... Why do I have to leave? I want to stay here, with you and Papy!" Isla said, once again crying. Sans sighed sadly. "Don't look at me like that, buddo..." Sans said, pressing his forehead to hers. She sniffled and hugged him. Papyrus joined the hug, and they all just stood there, enjoying each other's presence as sniffles filled the room, mostly Papyrus's and Isla's.
Papyrus took Isla from his grip, and Isla hugged him too. "Uncle Papy... Don't forget me, alright?" She murmured. Papyrus nodded, and handed her back to Sans after kissing her cheek/ nudging it with his teeth.
Sans walked out the door, not wanting to make their time shorter by teleporting. "Daddy, Why can't I stay? Don't you want me?" She sniffled. Sans felt his heart drop at that question. "Yes, Isla... Of course I want to keep you. You're a daughter to me. I love you."
Sans choked the last three words out. He only told Paps that he loved him, so this was a little new, but he meant it. He doesn't just say it to anyone. "Isla, Humans are hunted down here. we need Human souls to open the barrier so we can all be free. And the only way to get a soul is to kill. Isla, if you stay... You'll die. And I don't think I'll be able to stand it if you or Papyrus dies."
Isla was silent for a moment before nodding weakly. They arrived at the destination. Sans knocked on the worn purple door. "Who's there?" a voice chirped from the other side eagerly. "Lettuce." Sans replied. "Lettuce who?" "Lettuce in, please." Sans croaked. The door cracked open. "Are you serious?" The warm feminine voice asked. "Yeah." She opened the door, And Sans looked up at the tall goat-like monster. She gasped when she saw Isla. "Please..." Sans began, his eye-sockets were filled with sadness and regret.
"I need a favor."
OH GEEZ THIS ALMOST DIDN'T GET OUT TODAY!
First of all, mom mom took away all my electronics until I got my chores done (My room is atrocious... Well, was. I cleaned it.)
AND THEN I ALMOST FORGOT TO UPDATE!
Of course, I have these pre-written, so it wouldn't be a big deal... But still.
Anyways, I better get to writin', because I like to pre-write my chapters before having to post them. And writing takes a long time.
ANYWAYS, SEE YA PEEPS!
