Chapter 3 ~ Nightmares
When Sans woke up he saw his jacket laid over him like a blanket and Isla curled up hugging his arm like a pillow. Papyrus was also sleeping while leaning on Isla. He sighed in annoyance but couldn't help but smile. He slowly got up, gently letting Isla's head rest on the arm of the couch. Then he walked out of the house while leaving a note saying he was taking a walk.
And he was, but he was getting Christmas presents. He went all over the place, getting items to give to friends and Papyrus.
And also Isla. She was a little more difficult, but it was then that he got an idea.
She was going to love her present from him.
Then Sans also had to talk to Asgore about the whole Santa thing...
---~---
"Paps. Isla." Sans's voice aroused the two from sleep. Isla say up and rubbed her eyes with a yawn. "Hi Sans..." she greeted. Papyrus, however, jumped up. "SANS! HELLO!" Papyrus said enthusiastically.
"Paps. Can you make dinner for tonight? I'm starvin'." Sans said. Papyrus gasped happily. "OF COURSE SANS! IT HAS BEEN A WHILE SINCE YOU HAVE EATEN MY SPAGHETTI! I WILL START RIGHT AWAY!" Papyrus exclaimed, running to the kitchen.
Sans laid on the couch beside Isla. The girl leaned on Sans, making the Skeleton tense up slightly before pushing her away. Isla pouted and then sprawled across his lap. In doing so she basically dived into it, making her lay across it with her chest and abdomen resting comfortably across his lap. Sans sighed and let his hand pet her hair gently.
So much for that idea. No way I can stop her from doing... That. Sans tried to stop getting closer (Emotionally) to the girl. He knew in no time he would be wrapped around her little finger. But he failed in trying to slow down the process.
Isla sat up, still in his lap, and snuggled into his ribcage as she watched the singing robot on TV. "Who's that, Sans?" she asked, pointing to said robot. "That is Mettaton. He's famous in the underground." "Oh. Well I like him!" she said with a smile. Sans gently pet the top of Isla's head. "So does Papyrus." Sans said. "Do you?" "He's ok in my book... Not the best, but oh Well..." Sans shrugged. "It isn't as good as music from home." Isla said.
"... Isla... What is your mom like? And your dad?" Sans asked.
Isla stayed silent for a moment, so that you could hear the clanging of pots and pans from the kitchen and the TV. "Mommy is very nice. She loves me very much. And I love her too!" She cheered. "And your dad?" Sans asked. Isla was silent for another moment. "Daddy... Daddy is mean. He was mean to Mommy before he left and now he is mean to me. He keeps trying to steal me from mommy too." Isla said, starting to sniffle. "He gives me lots of owies. And he says not to tell otherwise he will hurt Mommy..."
Isla sniffled and hugged Sans while crying a little. Since Sans's jacket zipper was unzipped her arms easily slid around his torso. Sans blinked in surprise before hugging back. "S-Sans, I want to go home but it doesn't feel like home... I miss my Mommy and want to see her but I don't want to go... I don't know what to do or what I want!!"
Sans just hugged her, holding her close, trying to comfort her. "You're to young to deal with this." Sans sighed. Isla only shifted a little so she could nuzzle her face into his ribcage.
Sans started petting her soft hair once more, trying to comfort her however he could.
Papyrus came out of the kitchen to announce that Dinner was done, only to see Isla asleep hugging Sans. "Alright. Bring me the spaghetti, I'll warm some for her later." Sans said. Papyrus handed him some spaghetti and Sans ate it, making sure that he didn't get any on the small girl who was asleep.
Papyrus sat beside him, eating his share happily, watching Mettaton dance across the screen. When he finished, Sans placed his plate on the floor next to the couch, and resumed petting Isla's hair.
It was then he noticed that he forgot to brush her hair, yet it was brushed. Perhaps Isla did it?
He shrugged It off and continued petting Isla's hair. He decided that this would become a habit. And only bring him more close to the small human... But he didn't care.
He liked it, in fact.
---~---
Isla sniffles, her tears and sobs silent as she passed down the stairs to the green couch that Sans was sleeping on. "S-sans?" she whispered, shaking the skeleton gently. He groaned before shifting and sleeping again. "Sans?" he finally opened an eye. "Oh. Hey kid. You missed dinner." "Sans, I had a bad dream..." Isla sniffled. Sans sighed. "Well you better Spaghetti over here, kid." Sans said, lifting up his blanket so Isla could crawl beside him. His jacket was thrown on the floor with his shirt, so Isla was cuddled up to bare ribs and bone. Which sounds uncomfortable, but it was ok for Isla.
Sans sleepily wrapped his arms around her to keep her from falling off the edge of the couch. "So, what was your dream, kiddo?" His voice was sleepy. "Well... I was on the couch and for some reason Papy was gone. You said he went on vacation for a long time. So then you brought me to a place that was really pretty with golden floors, and then a person started walking up so you said to hide. And I did. I couldn't see it but loud noises came from you guys, and then when I peeked out after a long time to see what was happening... You, you were hit by a knife and.. And then you died and I ran over to you and... Then they killed me too... And then I woke up."
Sans was frozen with fear and recognition. But he managed to suck it up for Isla.
He had to be strong.
"It's alright kiddo. Lets go to bed."
And the two fell asleep on the green couch in the living room.
---~---
It was around a week after Papyrus found not only Sans on the couch but also Isla. Every night Isla got the same nightmare, every night she crawled onto the couch with Sans.
She could have not waken him up, but she needed to know if her beloved skeleton was still alive.
Isla was crying once more in bed, her small sobs the only sound in the room. She quickly exited, fleeing to the Skeleton who died in her dream.
"Sans... S-sans.." Isla sobbed. Sans woke up, as usual, with a sigh. "You have gotta stop doing this kiddo. This is becoming a habit." "But Sans-" she was interrupted by him sitting up and pulling her into a hug. She curled up in His lap. "Isla, I'm fine." "But you d-died in-" "Isla. Look at me. I am not going anywhere for a long time. I am not dying, not if I can help it."
Isla sniffled as Sans dried her tears with his hands. "Now calm down and go back to bed." "... Come with me then." Isla sniffled. Sans wasn't expecting that, but sighed in a way of saying 'ok' and letting himself be dragged to his own room.
He laid down on the bed and Isla hopped beside him and snuggled into his ribcage. "Are you sure kid? That can't be comfortable." "I'm good." Isla murmured, and then fell asleep. Sans chuckled and patted her head. "Hopefully the nightmares will stop now..."
Woah more fluffy adorableness
I have decided that during Christmas break I'll post every day... except I'm busy because my dad is in town, and he needs attention so now we have to hangout with him and his fiance and her son.
May be a little late for tomorrows, but at least I got today's done.
