Chapter 10 ~ Music
Isla was waiting excitedly by the door to the rest of the underground, and it was the day of her father's annual visit. She has lived in the ruins for three years, meaning she was now eight years old. And the skeleton would be coming any minute now--
The door slid open, revealing the short skeleton. Isla squealed in happiness, immediately jumping into his skeletal arms. "Dad!" She cheered. Sans blinked in surprise. "Isla, wow,you grew!" Sans said with a huge smile. He pet her hair until she pulled out of his embrace. "C'mon, let's go upstairs!" Isla said, taking his hand and dragging him through the basement and up the stairs.
Not much had changed in the past three years, other than Isla and the room she stayed in. The pink walls were made into a light lilac and pale green theme. And Isla herself was taller and could finally pronounce words right. Like refrigerator, and Papyrus's name.
Sans was slightly sad that he couldn't watch her grow with Toriel. But it was all for her safety. Isla was rambling on about her new guitar that she had gotten for Christmas when Toriel came from the kitchen with a sweet-smelling pie. "Oh! Hello Sans." Toriel greeted warmly, setting the pie at the dinner table. The table was set with a whole meal for three. "Thanks Tori." Sans said, sitting down at one of the seats as Isla moved her seat directly next to his. "I see that you still have that jacket." Sans chuckled. Isla smiled sweetly. "Well yeah! You gave it to me, It's special." She said. "After dinner I have to show you the guitar I was talking about. I've been teaching myself how to play." Isla said happily.
"Alright Isla, I know that you want to spend time with your father, but you're rambling." Toriel calmly said. Isla giggled in embarrassment. "Oops. Sorry, Dad..." She laughed nervously. "Aww, It's ok Isla. I'm just happy to see you." Sans said, hugging her and giving her a noogie.
"Dad!" Isla laughed. Toriel laughed as well at their affectionate display before telling them to calm down and eat in aloving, motherly way. They all started eating the nice, home-cooked meal. "Ah, it's been forever since I've eaten food cooked with fire magic." Sans sighed. "You're lucky you get to eat this every day, kiddo." "Shut up! You know you eat at Grillby's at least once a day, Dad!" Isla giggled. "Now now, Child, What have I said about using such language at the dinner table!" "Aww, c'mon Miss Tori! It's only my dad!" Isla pouted. Sans sighed. "Kid. Don't use language like that until you're ten." Sans chuckled. Isla sighed loudly. "Ok, mom." "Isla, I am your father."
"... Shut up." "What did we just talk about?"

Isla held the acoustic guitar in her arms and pushed away the sudden wave of nervousness, and strummed a little tune she'd been working on with Napstablook. (At the top, duh.) Isla got less nervous with each pull at a string. Sans listened patiently while sitting on her bed.
Isla could finally understand how nervous Napstablook felt when sharing his music. It tooka long time for the two to make the song, at first it started out with random notes until they found a basic melody. Isla was enraptured with making the song, and Napstablook happily helped.
Isla smiled as she finished with the last strum of her pick. Sans's smile was wide and proud. "Kid, that was amazing! How did you learn that song?" He asked, standing up and walking closer to her. Isla blushed. "Well, a friend and I made it..." "You made it? Kid..." Sans hugged Isla, since she set down the instrument. "I'm so proud of you. That was amazing!"
Sans went back to sit on the bed, and Isla sat beside him. "Yanno... Someday, when you can come home, we can play together. You with your guitar, and me with my Trom-bone." Sans chuckled. "Dad seriously? You learned trombone just so you could make a pun?" Isla laughed. A shit-eating grin stretched across his face. "Yep." "I love you, dad." Isla was cracking up as she hugged Sans. The skeleton chuckled. "Sometimes I can't believe that you aren't my biological daughter. You seem to inherit so many things from me."
"Then I remember that no woman would want my kids." "Dad please." "What? I'm an irresponsible lazy adult skeleton." "Dad stop tickling me!" Isla choked out between fits of laughter. Sans was tickling her so she was now sprawled across his lap. "I'm sorry what?" "I s-said please- Hahaha!" Isla laughed. Sans sighed and stopped.
Then Isla tackled Sans and started tickling his ribs. Sans started laughing himself. "Ha! get a taste of your own medicine, father!" "I-Isla, you betray mehehehe!"Sans laughed loudly. She stopped tickling him with a wide smile. "Alright, nine o' clock. Time for bed, missy." Sans said. Isla sighed. "I'll tuck you in and read you a story kiddo. Go pick one out."
Isla picked out the book filled with Sans's puns. Tori had gotten a copy after it was published. Sans looked at the book and laughed. "You know, I could just say all the puns I could think off the top of my head, and it would be basically this whole book, right?" "But Tori always reads it to me... I don't really know any more that I'd like." Isla admitted. Sans blushed a little. "Why?" He asked, Isla smiled weakly. "I miss you a lot when you're gone, dad." She admitted. That's when she started crying a little. "Isla? You ok, kid?" Sans asked tenderly. Isla sobbed and Sans hugged her, cradling her head to his ribcage.
"Shhh, It's alright kiddo. Daddy's here." He murmured. Isla eventually ceased crying, although when he pulled out of the hug, he saw that she fell asleep while leaning on him. Sans chuckled and tucked her into bed, kissed her forehead, and left the room. Toriel was sitting in her chair as Sans walked into the main room. "Hey Tori." Sans said. "Hello, Sans." Toriel said. "You know... She seemed happier than ever today. She really cares about you." Toriel said. Sans blushed and smiled. "I really care about her too. Tell her that I love her in the morning, ok? I better get going... Talk to ya later, Tori." "Bye, Sans."
---~---
Isla ran towards Napstablook with her guitar strap around her shoulder. "Napsta!" She cheered. The ghost had been gone for a few days, so Isla was happy to see her best friend again. Napstablook smiled shyly at Isla as she threw her arms around him in a hug, which neither knew how exactly since he was incorporeal. "Hey, Isla... Did your dad like the song?" he asked. Isla nodded. "He loved it! We should publish it or something..." Isla suggested. Napstablook smiled. "I already did on the music sharing forum I go on..." "Nice! When?" "Just before I got here... So I'll tell you tomorrow how things are going with it." "Thanks Napsta."
Isla took out her guitar, and Napstablook took out the video camera and Microphone. "Remixing it?" "... Yeah."
