Chapter Two - Sushi with Strangers

I unlock the door to my home, switching on the lounge and kitchen lights as I walk through the doorway. I throw my bag onto the couch and hurry into the kitchen, tail fluffed. I pull down the blinds to protect us from the prying eyes of the spies for Carnivora, and any other creeps. I take my hand out of my pocket to reveal the human, still unconscious and clutching the backpacks. I place him on the bench along with his bags, and go to prepare a space for him to sleep.

I open my eyes, my sight is blurry and my body feels stiff. I blink a few times to clear it and I freeze when I see my surroundings. I am lying on a cool, dark, marble counter in a giant kitchen. It must be the home of the Anhemite girl from the train station. I hear distant footsteps, getting closer. She arrives at the side of the counter, kneeling and peeking over it. Her features are soft, chocolate hair, skin a little darker than my own, eyes poisonous pools of green with cat-like pupils. Twitching calico ears poke through the curls, and I assume that she has a tail as well.
"Hey little guy, are you okay?" she asks quietly, watching me intently.
"U-u-um, I guess. I just, want to find my friend." I stammer, and her pupils shrink.
"Do you know who took your friend?" she asks sternly, and I move back a bit, frightened out of my mind.

"No, he just got taken. T-that C-carnivore..." I trail off, and she seems to understand.
"Well, my name is Jewel and I'll help you find your friend" she stands and reaches a hand out to me. It's not invasive or grabby, just a friendly gesture. Albeit, one from a giant cat-girl. I hesitate, grab her middle finger, and she helps me up.
"Thank you. My name is Mark." my slight trust seems to make her happy, as her ears flick up from their flattened position. Jewel walks over to her fridge and opens it, looking through for something to eat.
"Are you hungry Mark? I have sushi, spaghetti, leftover teriyaki chicken?" the sound of the sushi makes my mouth water.

"Can I have some sushi?" I ask timidly, and she smiles.
"Of course! Only the best of raw fish for you!" she takes out a plate of sushi and places it next to me with a loud clink. The rolls are about as long as my entire body.
"Right, I'll get a knife." she says, scampering away. I slowly walk around the bench, taking in the surrounding area. Leather couch, tile floor, walls decorated with pictures of other hybrids, all with the dark skin, cat ears, green eyes. All aliens.
I turn back around jump as she's cut up the sushi already and is watching me closely.
"Oh sorry, I've never really seen many humans before. They usually just get out of my way before I can say hi." she leans on the bench, munching on the Japanese food. I walk over and find smaller pieces of the sushi cut for me, and take one, returning a few metres - or centimetres really - away to eat it. She sighs sadly, and continues to eat more sushi in an extremely depressing way. Her sad look cuts into my heart, and I have the sudden urge to make this giant stranger feel better.

"W-well, I think you're really, really nice. I haven't met many giants either, but you're the nicest so far. All the other giants ignore me or try to take me away, but you tried to help. And you gave me sushi!" she smiles, and I eagerly take a few more bites out of the Japanese roll, not even halfway through and already feeling full. The Anhemite is quiet as we continue to eat our pseudo-dinner, and I notice her stifling yawns. I cautiously walk over and set the uneaten sushi down, and she tilts her head in confusion. "What are you doing Mark?" Jewel asks, ears raising. I rub my neck and look up at her.
"I-I saw you yawning and I don't want to keep you awake. I'm tired too so yeah..." I stutter, and she beams, clasping her hands together.

"Wow, Mark you're so kind and thoughtful." I smile, embarrassed as she gazes at me with appreciation. She places her hands on the table in a cup, as if asking me to get on, looking at me expectantly. I quench my fear and nerves and walk closer, stepping into the cup and sitting, hands flat on her palm. She lifts me to about her midsection, and the pull of gravity tugs on my stomach as she begins to slowly traverse her house. First, she heads to the light switch by the door and turns it off with her nose, cloaking the room in darkness. Without my sense of sight, I shrink back from the darkness, and she curls her fingers closer around me. I remain stock still as she slowly walks up two sets of stairs, still in the dark, unfazed by the lack of visible light, cat senses possibly tuned to the max.

We enter a medium sized bedroom and she switches on some lamps with her nose once more, giggling. A double bed sits close to the door, along with a desk, cupboards and shelves opposite. She lays me on a glass table next to a pretty thick cushion covered in patterned felt and takes off her hoodie.
"Sorry for the lack of a bed, I was unprepared to have a human. We can get you some stuff tomorrow when we look for André." I climb onto the cushion and savour the warmth of the felt over my legs.
"I think it's really nice for something you put together today. Thanks, J-Jewel." I say, and she takes out her phone, scrolling and tapping. It looks unique, old style like the ones you see in old Earth museums.
"Can I take a photo of you? My brother Nauru is on my case cause I didn't come to his art thing, and I don't want him coming over to see if the human is real. He's a nice guy, but he may be overbearing for a human with no experience around giants." I nod, and pose in a candid sort of way with my back to her, looking over my shoulder like the photo was unexpected.
"Nice pose Mark." she compliments, and stares at me, blue rings rotating in her left eye.
"All done, you can go to sleep now. I'll turn off the lamps." as she crosses the room, tail swinging with her gait, I snuggle into the makeshift bed and close my eyes.

"Sent! That will make him stay away. He'll have no reason to come get angry at me." I whisper, turning off my IrisCam and phone, and preparing to sleep. A notification turns my phone screen straight back on, partially blinding me. I look at the screen. It's a Snap message from Nauru, so I tap to open it.

"Or make him even more eager to come over.." I moan, and flop into bed.

This is about equivalent to 3 chapters in the original, so I might put in a little Jewel and Mark bonding time, to show off more of the world of New Earth.
Hope you're enjoying!
