Hunters.
Stiles and Derek crashed into Derek's midnight black camaro and shut the doors almost simultaneously.
"Okay Derek, let's go!" Stiles pounded his fist into his leg in a attempt to stop his nerves.
But Derek was just looking at him, well, not really him but his seatbelt, which wasn't on.
"Derek, what are you waiting on Christmas?! Those guys are right behind us!" Stiles tried again, but Derek still did not put the car in drive, in fact he didn't even flinch.
Derek kept looking from the seatbelt to Stiles and Stiles sighed, "I'm not putting the seatbelt on."
Finally Derek spoke up, "and why not?"
Stiles sputtered for a bit before sarcastically shouting, "Because it's an emergency and we are getting chased by people that want to kill us! What are you my dad?"
Derek rolled his eyes sarcastically before responding, "no but I do care what happens to you, and my car so put on your damn seatbelt."
"Okay, fine. Chill. Look I'm putting on the freakin seatbelt, happy?" Stiles motioned in front of them sarcastically, "now can we leave, before we actually die?"
Derek sighed and turned back around to the wheel and kicked the car in drive. They tore onto the road and dashed away from the abandoned building, hunters not far behind.
They were doing well, speeding along the ghostly road when 'pop' the air in one tire deflated. "Shit!" Stiles exclaimed and glanced at the SUVs behind him.
"Oh no no no no." Derek muttered under his breath. He glanced over at stiles and sighed, "we're gonna have to run."
Stiles snapped his eyes to him, "we-what? Listen I don't think I can-"
"Now!" Derek barked and swerved the car off the road by the woods. Him and stiles both tore off into the woods, Derek in the lead.
"Derek- we're-gonna- have to slow-down." Stiles panted.
Stiles could practically feel Derek's eye roll and he gasped when Derek slowed and scooped Stiles up.
"This isn't what I meant. I have legs." Stiles batted. "I'm just slowing you down."
Derek rolled his eyes again, "you aren't slowing me down. Wait until we get past that curved tree. I'm trying to distance us as much as possible from the hunters."
Stiles pouted but kept his mouth shut. Once they got past the tree, true to his word, Derek set Stiles on the ground.
Stiles didn't take more than three steps before he collapsed. "Oh God!" Stiles groaned.
Derek ran over to him and picked him up. The metallic smell of blood filled his nose. As Derek was running, he was looking for a place for them to hide.
Stiles was clutching his side to slow the bleeding down. He mumbled something they Derek couldn't understand.
"What?" Derek asked, trying his hardest not to look at Stiles wound.
Stiles shifted a little in Derek's arms, "I said, and you were worried about the seatbelt."
"Shut up, you'll be fine." Derek tried, but when he looked down at Stiles, he could see some of the light leaving his beautiful whiskey eyes.
"Hold on, just hold on." Derek found a little cave and climbed inside.
Derek laid on be ground and cradled stiles in his lap, he now had time to look at the wound.
It appeared to be an arrow wound, but the end of the arrow was gone. All that was left was the tip, which was in Stiles's side.
"T-there's a needle k-kit in your poc-pocket." Stiles winced out.
Derek searched his front pockets only for Stiles to cut him off, "your back pocket i-idiot."
Derek rolled his eyes, but checked his back pocket and sure enough he found a needle kit. Where it came from, Derek had no idea.
Derek tried to thread the needle, but his hands were shaking horribly.
"Damnit. C'mon Derek do something."
Stiles weakly reached up and grabbed Derek's hands.
"It's okay Derek. Relax." He coughed.
Derek snapped his eyes to Stiles and Stiles smiled.
Derek nodded and took a deep breath. When he opened his eyes again, he threaded the needle on the second try.
"This might hurt for a second, then I'll draw the pain for you, but, just be ready." Derek took another breath before starting.
Stiles coughed again, and he could feel the liquid in his throat. Sometimes, he hated being human.
Stiles didn't have the heart to tell Derek that he wasn't actually taking pain. Stiles thinks it might be because he's too freaked out.
Stiles eyelids grew heavier and he couldn't keep them open.
"And there. See I told you, you'd be fine." Derek tried, but stiles was unconscious.
Derek sniffled and shook his head, "we have to get the hell out of here."
Derek reached for his phone and realized it was gone. He cursed and instead started searching for Stiles's phone.
He turned it on and sighed. There was a passcode. He took a guess and got it on the first try
H A L E
Derek smiled slightly and called Scott.
"Scott?"
"Derek?"
"Stiles and I got into some crap. We're trapped in the cave out in the preserve. Stiles, he-he's been shot. Hurry." And with that Derek hung up and readjusted Stiles, so that he was cradling him, "Scott's coming. You'll be fine now. God, please stiles wake up."
Minutes past and nothing. No news from Scott and no movement from Stiles, other than the shaky rise and fall of his chest.
The only sound heard in the cave was Derek, talking to stiles and holding him, because he knew if he let go, he's lose Stiles forever.
Minutes turned into almost an hour. It shouldn't have taken Scott this long. Stiles jolted and started coughing up blood, but otherwise held no indication that he was conscious.
Derek got tired of waiting for Scott and decided to screw it. Stiles was dying, he would be damned if he let some hunters get in his way.
He picked stiles up and crawled out of the cave. It was dark outside, and didn't appear that anyone was out there.
Derek started walking and stopped when he heard footsteps. Multiple.
He sat stiles down against a tree and turned to face the hunters.
Derek tried to be the peace keeper by speaking up, "Look you can attack me all you want, but this kid over there? He's human, and he's been shot. He's dying and he needs medical help. Fast."
A woman that appeared to be the leader stepped up and laughed, showing off her yellowing teeth. "You really think we are going to let you go? You were hard enough to find, and even harder to trap. You're ours. And the kid dying? Well...it happens."
Derek's eyes flashed before he could stop them and the woman's crooked smile widened, "unless you care for the boy as more than partners. Ah yes. Why else would be be out here with you? Unless he cared."
Derek's eyes shifted and a split second later, he was in full werewolf mode.
He growled and charged at the woman. Clearly, that weren't expecting that because all their fancy bows from earlier weren't loaded and Derek managed to knock three of the men out and currently had the leader by the neck before the few left even got their bows up.
Derek had his claws pressed to her throat threateningly, "drop the bows,or her throat gets ripped out. I wouldn't test me." Derek growled, "your arrows are what's killing my boyfriend. So I'm going to have a deal with you guys. But first. Drop the bows!"
The hunters reluctantly did as told, them stared at Derek as he continued, "You let us go to the hospital and we finish this later. Or you guys can keep us here longer and the longer we're here, the more blood he's losing. And if he dies? Well, everybody here is going to die. Slowly. So choose your next words wisely."
The hunters discussed in a little huddle while Derek and the leader watched. A moment later they dispersed, " we decided to let you guys go, only because he's human."
Derek nodded, "Okay." He released the girl and walked over to stiles and picked him up again. He started at a dead sprint towards the hospital.
Stiles's heart rate was slowing dangerously.
"Where the hell is Scott and why are you bleeding so much? I thought we stitched..."Derek trailed off. There was a second wound in the chest.
This time it looked like a bullet and Derek's heart dropped. For once in his life these trees looked unfamiliar to him.
Where was he?
Stiles coughed again and this time, his eyes opened.
"Derek, just stop. We aren't g-gonna make it."
Derek shook his head and kept running, " no, you'll be fine, we're almost there. Please hold on."
Stiles squirmed and shook his head, "no seriously, stop. Please Derek."
Derek stopped and looked down at Stiles. He was shivering and extremely pale.
Derek sat and cradled Stiles, "please, Stiles."
Stiles smiled slightly, "it's okay Derek. I-I love you."
Derek shook his head as he flinched, another wave of pain hit him as he took Stiles's. "No, Stiles. I need you."
"Say it back." Stiles croaked, his lips stained with crimson.
Derek looked him in and eyes and frowned, "What?"
"Say 'I love you' back, or you'll regret it, I p-promise."
Derek nodded and smiled, a pained small smile, "I love you damn much Stiles. Okay? Don't forget it because I can't lose someone else."
Stiles frowned and lifted his hand to Derek's face, "This isn't your fault, or Scott's. Okay? Don't do something you'll regret. And, please make sure he's okay? I love you-" and with that Stiles's eyes closed as he lost consciousness again.
This time, Derek could hear Stiles's heart slowing, giving up. Derek felt Stiles exhale his last breath and grabbed him tighter.
Derek buried his face into Stiles's chest and sobbed for what felt like hours, just sitting there, crying into Stiles's ghost of a body, and cradling him.
He only paused when he heard footsteps. Derek snapped his head up in just enough time to see Scott running toward them.
He stopped and his face fell, "what the hell happened, is he? Oh my God. Stiles!" Scott lunged to Stiles's body and grabbed him.
Scott looked up to a pale Derek that had tears running down his face. He was shaking horribly and only looking at Stiles.
"Derek? What the hell happened?" Scott demanded.
Derek finally made eye contact with him. His eyes flashed their electric blue and he snarled, "hunters."
