Winning and Losing

Ethan POV

"What happened to your eye?"

Gods, this kid could be annoying.

"Mom took it."

"Why?"

"Payment."

"For what?"

"Damien!" I took a deep breath. "Look, we're getting close to the camp, you need to be quiet until I can get you inducted, okay?"

His dark eyes glowed as he nodded.

I breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you."

Damien nodded, then I heard a guttural roar.

"W-w-what was that?" His eyes were wider than saucers.

"That would be Beefbrain."

"I SMELL DEMIGOD!" A familiar voice bellowed.

"It's just me, Beefhead. And a new kid."

The Minotaur stepped out of the trees. "Who's this?"

"I-I'm D-D-Damien." At least the kid didn't run.

"What's going o-Ethan. You're back." I shivered at the cold voice of the man I knew once.

"Lord Kronos."

"Who is this?" His eyes were on Damien.

"This is my little half brother. He wants to join."

Luke's once sky blue eyes regarded Damien coldly.

"No."

"Why can't I?" To his credit, the ten year old didn't flinch, but stood up to the Titan Lord of Time.

"You're influenced by emotions. Who is your favorite demigod?"

He murmured something.

"Louder." Kronos ordered.

"Percy Jackson, sir." I made an annoyed noise.

"Wrong answer, Damien." He looked at me.

"Favorite God?"

"Poseidon."

"Favorite goddess?"

"Nemesis, obviously."

"Who is your favorite person at Camp Half Blood?" This was the dealbreaker.

"Chiron."

Kronos smiled evilly. I knew what was coming.

"Kill him." The Minotaur advanced, but the Titan held up a hand.

"E-Ethan?" Damien was scared out of his mind, I could tell.

"Nakamura, this is your job. You heard my orders." Kronos turned and walked away. After a moment and a lot of growling the Minotaur followed him.

"Ethan, what does he mean?" Damien began to cry.

"You know exactly what it meant. I'm sorry, Damien, but if I don't he'll have my head."

A new voice joined the conversation. "Or you could hand him off to me and run like the piece of crap you are."

I whirled. "Walsh."

"Nakamura." Leanne had her sword drawn and pointed at my chest. Her eyes were slightly tinted gold. That was new.

"My orders are to kill the boy. You will not interfere." I snapped.

"Damien, get behind me." She said softly. Then her glare hardened and she looked at me. "Touch him and I filet you."

I knew I wouldn't have time to defend myself, so I simply nodded and let Damien walk to the Athenian spawn.

"Now go back to your traitor friends, Walsh."

"See you later, Nakamura. Hopefully at the end of my sword." She turned and put an arm around Damien, who was still crying and staring at me. "C'mon buddy, let's go home."

I let out a low growl as they disappeared.

----------------

"How'd you find us?"

"I was coming out of the forest and saw you leaving with Ethan."

"Am I going to be in trouble for letting him go?"

"No. I'll make sure it doesn't happen."

"Who's your parent?"

I smiled. This kid was sure curious. "Athena."

"What's your name?" I mentally facepalmed.

"Leanne Walsh."

"I'm Damien Vindactom. My mom is Nemesis."

"Hi Damien."

"Are we going back to camp?"

"Yes."

"Why were you in the forest when you saw us leaving?"

"I was helping Silena with something."

"Silena Buearegard?"

"Yes."

"What were you helping her with?"

I smiled at him. "A personal problem."

Damien nodded, then hugged my waist.

"He was going to kill me."

"He was."

"Why would he do that? We're related."

I stopped and kneeled down in front of Damien. "Honey, sometimes people have bad motives. We just have to forgive them when they realize their mistakes. Until Ethan sees his, you have to be careful. Lu-Kronos is not going to be happy that he failed. Stay inside the camp borders when we get back, okay?"

He nodded slowly. I stood and took his hand. We were nearing camp after only a 10 minute walk.

"They're too close." I muttered.

"Uh, Leanne?" Damien tugged at my arm.

"Yeah, buddy?" I looked down at him.

Damien pointed into the bushes, looking scared again.

I looked up. "Damien, run!" Ethan leapt out of the bushes as I shoved the little boy aside, ducking under his sword.

"You just don't give up, do you?" I flicked my sword into it's full sized form, hearing Damien's footfalls as he sprinted towards the camp.

He won't make it. The eidolon in my mind hissed.

Shut up. "CHIRON! PERCY! ANNABETH! ANYBODY!" I yelled as loudly as possible. Someone would hear and get Damien.

"Leanne!" I grinned and Ethan growled.

"Jackson."
