CHAPTER 19: MISTAKES AND DISTRACTIONS

PETER PARKER
Present

I peeked through the window, fingers curling to hold onto the ledge as I searched for Aunt May. I was back at the abandoned building, ready to kick some ass. But there was nobody to be found.

Nope. Nope. Nope. Where the hell is she?

I had searched every single room in the house before sighing in defeat.

"Karen?" I called, "Where are they?"

"I'm not sure, Peter." My suit lady responded, "Would you like me to try and track their location?"

I parted my lips in shock, "Uh, yeah!" I cheered, "That's so cool." I mumbled under my breath.

I crawled around the brick wall again just to double check when a pigeon flew by me, making me startled as I crashed to the ground with a loud, "Ah!"

I groaned and clutched my head once I hit the ground, "I'm good. I'm okay." I exhaled aloud to no one. Well, I thought I was talking to nobody. Suddenly, at least thirty men in matching clothes darted toward me with huge, scary looking guns.

"W-Woah!" I scrambled back, still on the ground, "What are you doing with those?!" My head flickered to see Happy standing beside one of the guards, "Happy?"

"Where is he!" A soldier shouted at me and all of the men looked around with cold glares on their faces.

"Where is who?" I scrunched up my face at him in confusion.

"Shadow!" They all yelled in unison.

"I don't know, I've been looking everywhere and no one's here." I wobbled as I stood up and rubbed the dirt off of my bottom, intimidated by all the scary looking men staring at me.

Happy looked at me weirdly, "Then why were you screaming?"

My cheeks blushed red in embarrassment, "Oh, I, um- I fell off of the wall." I admitted and kicked a rock beneath my feet, "Wait, why is everybody here? You were all asleep when I left!"

Happy stalked toward me and I winced at the cold look in his eyes, "If he isn't here then we need to figure out where he is." He demanded.

"My suit lady said she can track their location." I assured him and felt uncomfortable at how many men were glaring at me, "Can you tell them to back off?" I whispered to Happy, "And is Quentin here?" I looked around anxiously. I knew he would be mad that I left during the middle of the night without telling him. If he did that to me I'd punch him in the throat.

"Figure out where they are now." He instructed and turned around to go back to the cars they came in.

"Happy!" I yelled but he completely ignored me and I sighed in exasperation, yanking on the sleeve on a random guard instead.

"Where is Quentin?"

He narrowed his eyes at me and tugged away my grasp on him, "Stark Towers, along with the two kids."

"Oh." I looked down in disappointment.

Why didn't he come?

He looked at me with sympathy for a moment and groaned before leaning into my ear, "Happy locked them in there. Said they'd only get in the way." I opened my mouth to ask more questions but he was already sprinting back to the cars with everyone else.

"They're in Stark Towers, Peter." Karen suddenly spoke up and I let out a laugh and shook my head.

"The system must be messed up. This is where he wanted me to come, there's no way he would-" I froze, blood turning cold, "Happy!" I screamed and everyone's attention was on me in an instant, "He's in Stark Towers!" And for the first time since he found out about May, he looked something other than apathetic. He looked terrified.

"You've gotta be shitting me." He exhaled.

"Are there any guards there?" I panicked, "Please don't tell me that you left the three of them alone there!" He pinched the bridge of his nose and shouted orders at the soldiers but I couldn't even comprehend them.

Quentin. Ned. MJ.

"I'm so sorry Peter." He mumbled sincerely, "But we have to go, right now."

And so everyone got back in the car except for me. I swung there as fast as I possibly could, worried out of my mind.

QUENTIN BECK
Present

My fingers fumbled with the computer keys as I tried figuring out the passcode to unlock the computer, "Ned!" I called, "Have you found anything yet?"

"Not yet!" He answered and I grunted in agitation.

I'm going to murder Happy.

We were trying to get into the computer to override whatever technology happy was using to keep us in here. I was working on trying every code possible, Ned was looking for if it could be anywhere and MJ was trying to rewire it in the break room.

"Piece of shit." I grumbled under my breath when another code was invalid, "Gonna put that bastard in his place when I get my hands on him." I didn't know if I was referring to Happy or Shadow. Probably both.

"I found something!" Ned cheered with a hopeful look on his face and a book in his hands. I looked down to see a paper full of numbers in different orders but none of them were labeled, "Do you think this could be it?"

"Maybe. It's the only good idea we've had all night." I chuckled bitterly, "I shouldn't have let Peter go alone. I should've been there with him the whole time." I placed the book in front of me and tried typing in the different codes.

"Don't beat yourself up about it." Ned swallowed the nervous lump in his throat. I could tell he was still scared just talking to me. I wanted Peter's friends to like me, but now was not the time.

"Yeah, sure." I muttered, running my hands through my hair in frustration when the first three codes didn't work. But there were about a hundred more.

"Uh, Mysterio?" Ned stuttered like he saw a ghost but I didn't bother looking up because I didn't care. All that was on my mind was Peter.

"You can call me Beck." I told him and kept typing on the computer.

"Look." He said, shaky fingers pointing outside the windows.

There stood Shadow, but he wasn't alone. Because Amber and Azaria were standing right there with him.

Amber's short, blonde hair was tucked back in a slick ponytail with a smirk placed on her thin lips. She was wearing a tight jumpsuit that was all black and shiny. Azaria looked just as intimidating with her black hair all over the place and sleek boots running up her thighs. Shadow looked the same as last time except half his face was a sickly shade of red from the grenade burning his skin off. It was blotchy and raw looking.

"Holy shit." Ned squeaked, speechless.

"Look what we have here." Shadow said with a dark chuckle, the three of them standing outside of the door but still audible through the thin glass.

"Amber." I glared, acknowledging them, "Azaria."

"Nice to see you again, Beck." Amber grinned, slowly stalking towards the door and reaching out to open it, "It's been too long. I'd say I missed you, but I don't."

Dumbass.

She screeched when a bolt of electricity ran through her body as she fell to her knees in agony, "That's quite unfortunate because I just missed you so much." I declared sarcastically as she wailed dramatically.

Shadow suddenly looked more pissed off but completely ignored Amber's irritating cries. But suddenly all of the lights in the building flickered off.

"I figured it out." MJ yelled, "I shut the power off. We can't see shit, but now we can get out of here to find Peter."

"We're all gonna die." Ned whispered to himself, changing those four words.

Footsteps could be heard and I knew Shadow and Azaria had walked in. None of us could see but I squinted in the dark, grabbing Ned by his collar and shoving him behind a wall, "Do not move." I whispered quietly and took his phone from out of his pocket, "Unless you have a death wish." I listened to the sounds of them walking and I tried to figure out where MJ was. And I had a pretty good guess when I heard a scream.

"Oh my god!" She squeaked and I could hear the sound of clothes ruffling as she struggled against him, "Let go of me you ugly little bi-"

She dropped to the floor as I kicked Shadow to the ground. I wasn't sure why he didn't have the Ironman suit on when that was his best asset but I didn't have the time to question it. I used the flashlight on Ned's phone to see. He laughed when I kicked him to his knees and immediately punched him in the gut. He let out another snicker as I slammed my knee against his face, hearing the sound of teeth cracking.

"What the hell is so funny?" I seethed. I froze, turning to the side to see Azaria gone. When Shadow saw the shocked look on my face he just cackled even louder which caused burning rage to boil in my blood.

"Ned, MJ. Go find her." I glared at Shadow and shoved him onto the ground, slamming my foot onto his face and I heard a sickening crack but I didn't care at all.

"Here." MJ tossed me a piece of rope and I looked at her questioningly, "To tie him up."

I nodded, not responding and tying his hands behind his back. I didn't know if he was just unconscious or dead but it was just a precaution. I punched him in the face one more time, the noise of his head smacking against the ground prominent in the room before I tied him against a column so that he couldn't go anywhere.

I froze when I heard the sound of engines and helicopters and jumped around to see Peter rushing in frantically. When we made eye contact with each other both of us let out a small breath of relief. He ran toward me and I held him tightly, kissing the top of his head, "I'm not letting you out of my sight ever again." I mumbled.

"Neither am I." He smiled and leaned in to kiss me but Happy interrupted.

"Now is really not the best time for that." He huffed and then winced at the death glare in my eyes, "Anyway, where is May?"

Wait, where is she?

"I haven't seen her. It was just three people. Shadow, Amber and Azaria. Those two used to be part of my team when we wanted EDITH and they're holding it against me because I tried to stop them from hurting Peter." I ran my hand up and down his back while he listened intently, "Azaria is somewhere inside. Ned and MJ are looking for her so have the guards look too. Shadow is right there." I pointed at him and Peter grimaced.

"Ew."

I couldn't help but smile, "Ew indeed."

"Wait." Happy intervened, "Didn't you say there was another girl?"

"Amber? Yeah she's over there." I pointed toward the door distractedly, too focused on Peter wrapping his arms around my neck and nuzzling his face into it.

"Where?" Happy asked confusedly and I looked over in a daze.

"Shit."
